Powerplay How I would like for Powerplay to be.

I was going to say "afraid the only way is to join a discord" - looks like you already came to that realisation 😆.
This is actually one of the core issues I have with Power Play:
Power Play appears nebulous (probably FDev ist to blame for this), the posts about it are rich with jargon and the player seems to be forced to use advertisement & tracker riddled third party sites (I am not yet ready to pay 50 USD a year for a premium reddit account just to get rid of the ads, which tend to get more and more obtrusive).

Somebody should at least put up a pinned thread on top of this subform with a thesaurus for this jargon, not to have one per faction (jargon or thesaurus) on reddit.

I would appreciate a good post or guide in this sub-forum with some basic distinctions and interactions between Power Play and the Background System.

What's 5C in Power Play context, by the way?

A bit vague from a beginner, currently I am in it mostly just to unlock modules and learn some basics:
I believe what Power Play needs most is a larger active player base that is aware that it is doing power play and how it is affecting the galaxy.

Reddit is just there to give a link to the Discord, for Utopia at least.
No ads in Discord.

Yes, but there's yet another account, EULA longer than the original US constitution, and each faction's stuff is hidden inside an individual group - I guess.

Edit: On second thought - maybe the whole current Power Play concept is contradictory to "blaze your own trail".

You need a link to each group, and each group is like a layercake where new pledges will see a tiny fraction of the whole.
Dont treat it as part of Your Game. Its all entirely created by other players like you, based on hundreds of thousands of hours of game experience.
And theyre sharing it with you for free so they can help you to help them.

"blaze your own trail" is always within the context of being a tiny cog in a very large machine. Playing politics & fighting wars ; Unless you want your trail to be a whispy fart, you gotta work with others on a similar trail.

Checked this out already, thanks.

But that trail should not be off everyone else's. First I pledge to every power to see their "Ethos" and methods to their ends (and get some modules), then I get to pick one and get embraced into their folds... This takes quite some time.

Aisling Duval's supporters did it smarter than some others, in each of their weekly cycle post on this sub-forum they have a link to a helpful FAQ for everybody and have some objectives for the newcomers. But "5C" is missing in the glossary of their FAQ.

The Archon Delaine supporters scheme a bit more in the dark etc.

I think if powerplay rules and code were static this would be easier. Also given the reverse engineering involved (thanks to FDev) over some years by many individuals in learning about PP, each group's understanding is somewhat closely guarded. In practice the only "way in" is via a discord, and even then it's a slow process to get up to speed. And despite being a conceptually fairly simple set of mechanics, there ends up being a lot of confusing complexity that an isolated individual isn't at all well placed to comprehend.

Also I'd say when choosing a power that in addition to ethos etc. and the face value aspects of each power, the groups involved can be very different and have different cultures. Also, some powers have no clear opponents and are fairly static seemingly in maintenance mode. Other powers are at loggerheads, leading to some motivating goals for the team and the player. Consider what you'd actually be doing if you went for that power, and how its playerbase functions, when deciding. Looking at the numerous weekly forum discussion threads on powerplay, you can look people up on inara if you like the cut of their jib :). You'll start to see some patterns I think...

See @Bashy81 ? How can we even talk about things when we have comments like the one above? :) For some people it's just a battle of principle anyway. I wonder what would happen if really Powerplay would not affect BGS anymore... Imagine a galaxy without the 15% discount in LYR systems, the salt!

You have a Powerplay shop and buy things such as the 15% discount using Merits (which don't decay).
