How important is CPU for Elite?

Word to the wise, make sure you buy a mobo that has the latest BIOS as 7th gen needs a BIOS update to be compatible with skylake boards. I didn't know that so needed to borrow my friends CPU to boot it up to flash to the latest BIOS. Yes, he was a very good friend and I was VERY lucky

Or get an Asus - which will update BIOS from USB with no CPU or even memory installed :D

Thanks all for the advice!

I'm currently looking at the Asus Strix Z270E which being a Z270 will support Kaby Lake out of the box, and looks to have a decent enough audio stage to drive 300 ohm headphones without needing a separate sound card.

I'm away from home right now so am hanging fire, especially as Ryzen, Vega and GTX 1080ti are so imminent. I'm not convinced I want to be an early adopter for Ryzen and the new mobos it will need, but hopefully it'll produce some price cuts. The 1080ti however does seem worth waiting for at this point.

Ah to live with money as no object. I will get there one day!

What I can say is that with the graphics settings turned up to ultra (for my Rift - GTX1070 ftw), my system does run pretty hot. The CPU cooler spins up to full speed every couple of minutes then spins back down again.
EDIT: CPU is FX8350 - 8x4.4Ghz.
