How is it that an Imperial Courier can outclass a Clipper for shield?

Luckily I'm currently in my Clipper, so I can take a closer look...

In fact I have only 3 shield boosters equipped, 2 of which are heavy duty with 73.x% and 1 is thermal resistant. That C7 SCB really requires a heat sink launcher ;) Oh, and I've got 3 guardian shield boosters in my optionals... those are ideal for ships with weak base shield strength.

Resistances are as follows:

Not perfect, but wouldn't call it terrible either.

Dude, you just exposed yourself by telling us that you have 3 guardians shield boosters added. Those buff any shield by the same base amount. We're talking about the shields between a Courier and the Clipper without these additional buffs thrown in.

So how comes that a Fer-de-Lance with 5A shields can outclass a Type-9 Heavy with 8A shields.

Same reason I talked about before.

FDL has 300 base shields and gets a 1.36 multiplier for being under optimal mass on a size 5 shield, whilst a Type 9 has 240 base shields and a 1.5 multiplier for being under optimal on a size 8.

300*1.36 > 240*1.5
