How long will this beta last?

So if beta lasts 2 more weeks and the feedback is long i.e. can't possibly be done in 2 weeks, how does that work? Sounds more like preview than beta to me.

? Does not parse. Just because people provided lots of feedback does not mean FD are going to change lots in response.

Have FD announced a release date for 3.3? Nope.

It is pure assumption on the part of some that the actual release date will be a fixed time after the end of the Beta.

Thanks for that.

Given that the problems with VR and mining may require significant recoding to resolve, we might be wise to resign ourselves to the unusual becoming usual.
There is no such thing as a "usual" elapsed time between completion of a Beta and formal release of the associated version.

Personally though, for ED 3.3 I would probably expect up to a month between end of a Beta phase and formal release - perhaps longer depending on various unknown factors.

Overall, it is unwise to build personal expectations based on speculative assessments of when something may be released. I would be surprised if even FD knows for certain yet how much time they would require between the end of the Beta and formal release, if they were certain then they would have probably announced it already.

Maybe they will release it just before xmas. If there are some serious issues we would have to wait until January sometime as it's the holiday season. Mid to late December seems like a bad time to release an update.

Would not be the first time a developer has released an update around that kind of time, whether it is good or bad to do so is a matter of opinion in the main. I do agree that if any developer does release a product/update over that kind of time then they need to be sure about the quality of their product or risk quite severe customer/user backlash over any issues encountered - regardless of whether the update/product is free or not.

lol ;) Every release people pontificate about how there are bugs that must be fixed and it will be ages to the release, and every time FD don't fix most of them, and ship in a week or so. I expect this to be the same - very few showstoppers, just a lot of les.

There will be grumbles, then we will move back to bickering about space legs / atmos planets / open only PP - as ever :)

(Next there will be lots of replies saying that this time will be different, and FD must address the serious issues that they list - off you go!)

I'd expect FDEV wanting to release 3.3 live on either anniversary date 12 December (first Alpha release) or 16 December (1.0 release).
Will that happen remains to be seen. :)

Inso much as I play on an Xbox and thus don't care a thing about "BETA" testing on PC's. I just want my new MAMBA, and I want it yesterday. LOL

Take until next year as far as I am concerned. As long as its done right and not a bug ridden mess as usual. I can wait.

While I'm glad stuff get's tested, I've seen too many bugs and problems reported in beta's (all games) get left in to have much faith in them. I treat the beta before launch of the game proper as early access (two weeks as I recall for Elite) and then never touch them again. Plus I don't like to spoil the exeprience of playing new stuff in live. This means I am currently not playing elite at all as the game gets pretty dead until the new stuff goes live.
I have picked up a new Centurion in World of Tanks though and doing pretty well with it (The Aussie 5.1) - So I will have to wait a few more weeks to see if the Mamba is worth trying out.

Yeah, I'm pretty much with you there. I admit I signed up for ED beta mainly because I was too impatient to wait for launch because it looked so pretty (I'm shallow, what can I say?). I don't participate in update betas because there are far more capable and knowledgeable bug hunters out there than I could ever be, and there's no benefit to playing for playing's sake because all beta progress is wiped on release.

That said, I couldn't resist having a quick peek at this one, since I've been hoping some substance would be added to exploration at some stage, and this certainly looks as though it'll make it rather less dull. But again, having seen the new mechanic I'm out again now and back playing the normal, non-beta version again.

I downloaded beta last evening. Theres an exclamation mark and a warning on the controls. I'd previously made a copy of my existing binds and put them in 2 seperate places. Is this enough? May I just enter the beta and add the couple of extra binds or is there something I should know first? Hence why I ask as redoing binds always irritates me. Ta. Besides I was enjoying my engineered vulture in a haz res and I now have more assorted focus crystals than a homeopathic spritualist convention.
