How many of you don't play anymore?

Vanilla is good for feeling out and learning the game but eventually you want more, more, MORE! :) Some mods makes things more convinent, plugin manager is a must. and for example training marines takes ages, and why not add stations who sells experienced ones (for higher price of course) and why not add docks who sells ships (ie khaa'k ships/weapons) and factories (ie. plasma burst generator) witch are not for sell in vanilla, so on and so forth. Overhauls like x rebalance, x-tended, are worth of checking out.

Ah I see - that's cool I will take a look at what it has to offer over the forums, I had a little opportunity to try FTL last night (faster than light) - excellent indie game. Was laughing quite heartily for some time after watching the crew of my spaceship try to survive barricaded in the oxygen chamber together only to eventually be burnt alive for their troubles.

If you suck all the juice out of a game as quickly as you can, why are you surprised when you feel thirsty?

I've been playing since alpha and have only dabbled in exploration and bounty hunting and haven't tried mining at all. No community goals as yet and still in my original ship. Yep, plenty to look forward to as I don't feel the need to get it all done by yesterday.

I wonder out of those who have set ED to one side, how many tried to do everything they could as quickly as they could?

Once upon a time, people used to play games, not devour them.

Heck, I like the game. It reminds me so much of Privateer from Origin (think Star Citizen's creator along with Erin Roberts). The following suggestions would make the game more interesting:
1. Improve mining, i.e. tractor beam. Drones would be too complicated.
2. Special equipment upgrades that require the collection of specific commodities and minerals to build.
3. The ability to communicate with AI on a very basic response level of course, i.e. a positive response elicits a positive
reply and vice versa for a negative response which may initiate a negative outcome such as turning from friendly to
enemy.
4. Having established a reputation in a system, when engaged with an enemy, the friendlies come to your aid and assist in
enemies destruction.
5. Being able to hire AI wingman to fly missions with you and therefore also able to assign said wingmen to certain
whilst you are engaged with your main target. This would be especially helpful in Combat Zones.

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Of course you can, and so did we. It's just that some of us have woken up.

I still play!

It's true that there's a lot more that could go in and that some of what's there needs polishing, but I still find it strangely compelling all the same. I keep coming back.

Also, the only other game forum I was on (for XCOM) soon filled up with people saying "I've logged 400 hours game time and I'm telling you the stupid designers haven't made the thing re-playable at all!". So I don't want to be one of them!

I used to play everyday, now I play 1 or 2 hours at weekends.

But according to my game experience, its a normal reaction if you have a life and are a normal person.

I think that planetary landing update will bring you all back for more fun. Don't depress ;)

I back play in 2 or 3 month. Wait for "miracle updates". For now, impossible...

Sorry Michael, i love idea from ED, but - need polish, need more stuffs, need internal chat, need more ships, need walk in ship and station to "what i do in here?"...well...need more, motivations. Is it for now.

Sorry english

I can see why a game with no 'end' will feel like it fritters out.

Or to say another way, I've played through the recent wolfenstein three times. It's not a long game, yet completing it three times feels plenty enough.

Those three times took way less time than I've already spent on elite, but because there is no end to Elite, wolfenstein feels more rewarding, in that sugar-hit kind of way.

But Elite keeps pulling me back, despite weeks rests taken. Oh and 1.2 is a hoot!

See I couldn't find enjoyment from the end of a game, unless that game was ridiculously difficult (something like Super Meat Boy dark world difficult) and I feel satisfied I have overcame an actual challenge to myself, or the story was engaging on some level that required wrapping up at the end.

And even with Super Meat Boy being dark world difficult and my enjoying the end I still continue to play it, over and over and over again. It has about 3 or 4 controls but because of the variation in difficulty between levels, types of objects and challenges in levels and the endless deaths, it is one of my favourite games of all time.

I don't feel like Elite fritters out as such - I just feel like there is no substance to what is already there. The groundwork is laid for something spectacular, it just needs something a little more engaging in terms of gameplay (other than combat which is excellent).

I'm still playing, barely.

Managed to grind away to a type 7, but the jump to a type 9 seems so monumental that I don't know if I can handle it. Sometimes I'll jump into my Viper and have a bit of a blast but the return is so pitiful it doesn't seem worth it. Quite often I've loaded up the game and just end up staring at the docking screen thinking about what to do and just log out again, lately I just browse the forums rather than play. Maybe, the prices on the ships should be brought down a bit, as things stand right now I can't see myself 'progressing' from where I am.

Time will tell, I'll hang in there but game time is getting smaller by the week due to lack of ambition/content.

I've got into a nasty habit of actually falling asleep at the keyboard, I log on with good intentions check out a few runs then bam, 4 hours later I wake up with neck ache so I shut down the house and go to bed, it could be the game or it could be my age?

P.S. My latest theory is it could be the Galnet news, I don't think I've ever finished reading one of those.

I'm still struggling to fit life and work around time to ED. I don't think I'm playing a different game to those who have burnt out, just playing it differently.

Dissapointed in ED. Was a waste of money, becouse theres not much to do. Missions still are boring as it was? Random USS signal hunting, borring trading etc?
I was hoping ED will have missions similar to Freelancer 1/2 where you could do them with your friends. Too bad it was just like go from a to b or search random uss signals for 5 hours and if youre lucky you will find your target to kill for a crap reward.

Stopped playing after game become too easy. Enemy AI is just broken and healing potions, called shield cells makes you god.

I've stopped playing for the most part as well. Happened when there was some kind of stealth boost to the NPC combat AI. Now, a competent sidewinder can take me out in my starter sidewinder. I play on solo, so this development severely hampered my play. How about letting US choose what difficulty level we want our NPC's to be at?

I think it's a month or so that I don't play anymore, I don't keep count. I launched briefly when 1.1 deployed just to see if my trade route was still viable, but quitted just after one round trip, even if I'm sitting in a Clipper and I can make 2.5mil/hour lol. I had some hope for 1.2 with two new ships and new "strong" USS, but it seems that those won't change the life of a lone fighter pilot (possibly making it more miserable). And I hope the rumors about the price of the two new ships aren't true because there's no way I grind 20mil/100mil just to try two new ships in the same RES/Nav Beacon/random USS scenarios. Wings doesn't concern me since I don't have friends who play with me and good luck getting to know someone with the communication and community tools we have. And finally, pvp is meaningless to me thanks to shield cells spam and combat logging issues.
So yeah, probably waiting some more patches before giving it another try.

I play when I can, which is not regular due to life's quirky habit of interdicting me with reality! ED does bring an escape vector for me from that reality, for a while at least. :)

I couldnt get my friends to buy this game (not enough content, too expensive and not on Steam), so I got bored once I got my Clipper. Ill be back when they release the Courier, and then Ill leave until they allow me to walk inside my ships and land on planets. I currently have no incentives to play.

I read the forums most days, and I look down at my HOTAS but rarely pick it up to play anymore. I was wondering who else is feeling a little let down and sad by what we have so far? I still have high hopes for the game and think that they will make it much better this year.

To all you that are feeling like I do, stay hopeful. There is still time but the clock is ticking

OK, I've deleted about half a dozen responses I typed to reply to this. I just can't tell if the OP is being serious or just trolling. Obviously, if you don't like a game then don't play it. The world will keep on turning. Games are supposed to be fun and if you don't like one, for example I don't really care to play monopoly online, then don't.

I do hope FD will continue to expand and develop this really immersive sandbox universe. There are quite a few simple things they can do to enhance the current builds without having to spend hours and hours playtesting and coding. But in the meantime I'm having a great time and one of these days will learn to use the X52 I purchased but have been too intimidated to try yet.
