How many of you don't play anymore?

I think for me at least, i would like to see some other reason to build my credits, other than ships that is.
Something else to invest in.
Yes ok, my own station perhaps, that i can use to store ships, upgrades, even goods, then i would have to build defences up in that station, then may be called back to sort out problems, such as it being attacked, and set my own station laws, then maybe recruit some npc patrol ships. invite my friends, defend it with my friends................................ ok, ok, so i am dreaming again.

... Persistent NPCs with names and faces to interact with. ...

Rep for mentioning this, because I believe it could help push AI tech in games quite a lot, and would be a very interesting development in the long term (see my comments here, ie. the '#' part after the PS at the end of my post).

Ian.

So lets see..... this thread was started on friday afternoon...... since then devs have been at work for a total of hmmmm ....4 hours tops. Then they went home for the weekend.

Just when should they have stopped everything to read through this thread and post a reassuring comment ?

... some hours into Monday now ....
Still no communication with a communications manager... and that's a very dubious communication strategy.
Again, I do not have a real explanation for this behaviour.

Sorry, ok, you hooked me, this may have already been said, but, why would you come on a forum if you're no longer playing? Seems a bit silly imho, just to troll! diss the game? Have a moan? What's the point to the OP? I may be missing something, if your fed up, don't like it, bored, go n play something else and stop filling the forum with pointless threads, jeez. Get really fed up with amount moany threads, do something positive for a change, if you don't like something, come up with a solution, post it on the ideas thread or ticket it, You paid for the game, it's your choice not to play, the community don't necessarily what to have to read about it. Rant over. Be about your business commanders, nothing else to see here.

I stopped playing about 2 months ago. Same reason as most; no content, no support for solo players, every update focused on MP only...
/snip

Summed-up very well indeed. I haven't played for months either, for exactly the same reasons.

...and no external camera until the recent extremely limited "debug" one. Not just the fact that there wasn't one, but the pitiful excuses for there not being one. A 4th millennium-based space "simulation" where you can only look out of the cockpit of your several-hundred-foot-long spacecraft. A staggeringly poor design decision.

Why do they have to post anything? This is not an MMO. They are not reliant on subscription dollars to stay viable. Most (but not all) of the folks I have seen who are vocal about being bored with the game are folks who have been playing it daily for over a year. They got their money's worth imo in that situation. Others who are bored seem too caught up in grinding out the biggest ships as if they will make the game more fun (maybe they will to some people. I don't understand tht mindset myself but to each their own).

Lots of others are enjoying the game just fine. I don't understand the posts like this one though which are seemingly like 'This game sucks and I quit playing it, who else hates it and quit but still reads the forums to talk about how over it they are?' It almost calls for a Willy Wonka meme photo that reads 'Tell me all about how little you care'.

Most games would be lucky to get that much playtime and interest. If you don't enjoy it, stop playing. You bought a game and probably put more hours into it that you could in most other games (leaving MMO's out because this isn't one, and also leaving moddable single player sandboxes out as well). And you are here to tell us how bad that thing you spent all the time doing is?

Edit to add: I am a new player as of release. I was not in beta and I did not kickstarter the game. If there was a time when the game was being pushed as a MMO it was before I started following the game about 6 months ago. I (and nobidy else I know who plays) ever expected a MMO from Elite. We were expecting multiplayer X3 without station building or owning, and I am pretty satisfied. I honestly am baffled though by posts that say stuff like 'I played daily for over a year but I just quit two months ago'. Sounds like you got your money's worth to me.

Think about it , I'm sure you will get it eventually.

I took a break in January until 1.1 came out to avoid burnout, but I'm still playing.
Pacing oneself in this game is paramount.

<me. Sigh.... I bought the game back in beta. because i saw David talking and promising about all the cool stuff they WANT to add. (and it now seems it's all a lie to get people to buy, and never intended to actually have any content at all)

I decide to avoid playing till release, to not be burnt out.
Release day, nothing has really changed, got a few weeks playtime until i realised it had nothing that attracted me to it in the first place.

Now> reading the forums in the vain hope that the Developers will actually add substance to the game.

to sum it all up, 1. VERY disapointed and slightly angry at devs for essentially lieing, and no comunication.
2.Going to come back in a year and see if they've actually done anything to the game (4 months since gamma/release, and still nothing. they have our money now, i don't have high hopes...but...MAYBE...)

3. Wishing i hadn't spent money on this "Game" in it's current state, it should be worth $15 AUD...

So yeah, after this week. likely won't come back for another 6 months. then when it hasn't changed, lose all hope and leave...:/

Still playing, would play more but have lots to do in real life. So sometimes I only play once a week. Still fine with me. If you're not happy, don't play, no one is forcing you to. You could sell your Hotas for a decent amount of money to someone who does play (I don't need it)

That is the point of this game and always has been. It's not an empire building game.

That isn't what is advertised:
...your actions change the galaxy around you in an ever unfolding story.
But before you set out to make the galaxy yours,...

I used to enjoy trading in the original Elite, because now and again it would reward you for seeking out new routes.

Every now and again you would find a system that would be selling dirt cheap computers (or any other commodity) and you would get very excited, load up the cargo bay and go and make a good profit and feel good about it.

There doesnt seem to be anything like that in ED currently, which makes trading a little too much like real life, sure you can make a profit, but it takes some work and isnt very satisfying.

It would be nice to have random systems that every now and again would offer low buy or high sell prices, just so we know that they are out there somewhere! :), it makes it more exciting.

Risk should also be an element of the trading game and that is also something that has been missing, buying cheap narcotics from Riedquat in the original game was lucrative but incredibly risky.

Trading is the thing I was looking forward to most in ED, not just buying and selling, but the risk vs reward element of it.

It is actually like real life - sales exist, in fact they are so common you cannot avoid them.

I'm playing a LOT of a lot less, but then with this iteration of Elite I was basing much of my planned enjoyment around functionality in the Wings update - so I'm expecting to kick it into higher gear soon....it's all good in beta, but until my brothers can play it as well I'm just hanging...

I've been on a break from ED for a few months. I'll be a fence-sitter for now, but I'm not very enthusiastic about how they're probably going to sell in-game credits for real money. In my opinion that kind of stuff always ends up with skewing game balance in some way or another. Usually in favor of "motivating" players to buy gold, or whatever the currency might be.

and u can show any point that they will do that?

Im in the kind of reverse than you guys tbh. I burnt out in alpha / beta, didnt really play after full release! Its only untill a few days ago i started doing stuff again. Basically rare trade runs to get cash. I'm currently in an asp, with 2.5m on the account. Trying to get up to a clipper, and later into a python. But the grind of getting cash.. OMG! I'ts numbing a bit tbh.. But im trying to stick with it..

Re: needing an imagination to play this game - this is a silly argument that basically is little more than a snide insult to those that find it boring.

In fact the opposite could be said to be true, and only those with little or no imaginaton are able to cope with the mind-numbing boredom of Elite: Tedious.

I still cant understand why you are here if the game is so bad? Serious question! I am currently not playing myself ( some reasons because game mechanics and other RL reasons) but I do not feel the need to whine on the forums about my unhappiness and distaste of the game.

It's sounding like the FPS version of the game to many here...unless they have decided in a strange move to name the current game as "deadly" on the consoles Maybe. It might be deadly an all if restricted to a xbox controller :)

FPS update sounds awesome, how will FD handle avatars is the most exciting.
