How many VR users are there in Elite Dangerous?

As above, the only reason that I play ED anymore is for the VR experience. Not that it's a bad game or anything, I've played a lot, but wouldn't be compelled to log in and play were it not for VR.

Three things concern me very slightly with respect to FD continuing to actively support and improve the VR experience.

Firstly, DB's interview where he commented on how VR was such a niche market. On its own not necessarily a big deal, but... Secondly, the apparent lack of knowledge by the devs whether the new exploration UI's will work in VR. Honestly, if they are as basic as the galaxy and system maps, I can see it being a thoroughly tedious experience scanning systems. And thirdly, the fact that consoles don't support VR means that potentially their biggest market has no need of developing support for it.

I'd hate to see VR support go the way of Mac support, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised.

there's a 2.8% comment just begging to be made in this thread.

....but its a 2.8% with a significant amount of disposable income.

remember the top 2.8% of taxpayers pay 50% of all tax revenue while the bottom 50% (whuch are also generally the loudest) pay 2.8% of all tax revenue. There's a lesson in there somewhere....

When are you planning on trying a controller then?

I already have, and I still use them when there's no choice offered. (I never said "I've never used a controller"...)

It still doesn't change the fact I prefer a keyboard and mouse for FPS games.

It also doesn't define me a "Luddite" simply because I have a preference of input style, either.

Also, as I stated... I use HOTASAS in ED... does this mean those who prefer mouse/keyboard are included in your clearly implicit sentiments, too? Or do you simply retract your original statement based on the fact your fingers typed faster than your brain interpreted my statement?

It's unlikely that VR will be pulled, however I firmly believe Braben made these comments purely to placate the console players, who will never see a working VR implementation of the game.

It's the same concept as visual parity - ensuring that other systems are not judged to look worse compared to 'normal' PC settings. (why developers/publishers continue to deny this is a thing confuses me - most console owners know that the PC is able to show better visuals - I can't imagine sales would drop because of this.)

In many ways, I'm saddened that Star Citizen will never be released - it would have shown the HUGE gap between console and PC - and might have woken developers/publishers up a little bit. (rest assured this won't happen, the travesty that is SC has damaged PC game development quite a lot.)

It's a shame the PC version of Elite: Dangerous has been all but abandoned; the lack of PC specific development, such as VR clearly shows that Consoles are the predominant focus now.

Part of me has a bit of hope for the future - the PSVR2 reportedly is going to use eye tracking.

This is important because if you limit what is high res to just the area your eye is specifically looking at (everything outside a very narrow angle is actually low res) you can significantly cut down on processing requirements. Which means a PSVR2 could, in theory, run better on a PS4 and PS4Pro than the current generation, which means ED might actually be able to work on it.

Something to dream about anyway :D

In a VR FPS you prefer KB and mouse to controllers and a stock?

Stock? are you going on about now? It's pretty apparent that's what I said, that I prefer k/m in FPS games.

Are you ready to retract hardpoints yet?

Or are you still trying to plug away at my shields in this useless attempt of yours after you've already displayed yourself multiple times to fail at reading comprehension? I tried to be respectful about it- but you simply haven't earned any by admitting to the fact that you didn't read my post completely and simply fired off at the fingers without thinking. Seriously, just STOP already.

You like VR FPS but you don't know what a stock is? The whole point of VR is immersion and you don't get the with a KB and mouse, use of which in such games is lame, imo. Use your imagination and explore the possibilities FCS!

A "stock" can be described as many things, including a rifle butt, or base for a soup or stew, too. I'm glad you're open-minded enough to understand it can be interpreted in many different ways! ;) Good day to you.

Have you heard of the thing called context? Why would anyone (excluding those with a disability) want to point a gun in VR with a mouse?

Because when you're "in" VR, you're not seeing your own physical actions- so you wouldn't see yourself using a mouse to begin with?

What's your point? And why does it matter so much to you what others prefer, as long as there's still choice for you to use your own?

Do you know what VR stands for? The whole point of it is to feel like you're in the other world and a big part of that is that your body movements are seen on screen. This is another example of how your preference for KB and mouse has held back your thinking. Some things are simply better than others when it comes to VR and immersion.

Rift user here but don't play in VR often.

The low res turns me off a bit and the fact that I heavily rely on third-party apps during my standard gameplay (exploration - I make notes etc). I need to play around more with pinning windows and Voice Attack to see if I can get something working for me.

When I'm running missions though VR is brilliant. Still want more res/clarity.

EDIT:
PS. I only bought the Rift for Elite, have barely tried anything else in VR.

I agree with various points above that ED could do with some game-related improvements (eg, Galaxy Map) but on the whole it really is an awesome experience.
