How to find un-explored systems

As title suggest how do I find un-explored systems? I have been exploring a lot lately but I find that almost any system that I jump into has already been discovered by previous commanders. Having said that I did find few planets with some sort of life where no one has landed before so I did get first footfall there. But how much further from bubble do I need to travel to find undiscovered systems? I'm currently 750ly from bubble and travelled above the galactic plane away from the usual tracks.

You need to go out at least 1250 LY from the bubble to get nearly all unexplored systems. Along the way you may find a few here and there that have been missed over the years.

Thanks - will continue to head out in this case, Should I carry on going above the galactic plane or I can branch out laterally maybe towards the core?

Just 1250? In what direction? I still find explored systems over 5000Ly from Sol.
I did say "at least 1250 LY...".

I find them everywhere I go too, but they thin out. It all depends on where you go and where others have been before you.

Commanders have been all over the galaxy in the past 10+ years...but still only explored < 1.0% of it...

  • you have to move about 2000 ly away from the Sun system.
  • as you move away, the proportion of undiscovered systems increases, but does not increase to 100%.
  • Avoid the nebulae, they are very visited.
  • Choose strange directions, no siren songs
  • nothing guarantees undiscovered areas, but the farther away the better. Beagle Point at 80,000 ly is very visited.
  • in remote areas, short jumps increase the %

As others have said, local discoveries are well recorded (albeit missing full planetary scans here and there,) and distance is key. However, what you also need to do is move to a different start point. If you start from the bubble as it stands, even 2500LY will still have you tripping over others previous discoveries, most of the time because you'll be following the same route, or thereabouts.

So, go up or down using the galaxy map about 500LY (I realise how stupid those directions sound in space,) then plot an outward journey along a new plane.
Don't wander to the nearby nebulae, either, if you want a first discovery, or that bright star cluster that looks "interesting" - it's probably well visited.

I found beyond about 4000 LY, most systems I wandered through are pretty much undiscovered. It might sound a lot but it's "only" 50 jumps in a Mandalay nowadays.

Ive recently went straight down from the shoulder of Orion and I’m currently skimming the bottom of the disk, and the majority is pretty much discovered. Planets with biological (where the money is) tend to be mapped and had their first steps taken. But like everyone has said that’s not 2000ly out in any direction ;)

Also humans (its seems) tend to all at some level think alike.

Use this site to avoid the paths most trodden.

Who knows maybe you will find the world that hosts the elusive Braben Tree, where all his jumpers grow.

(also dont think two dimensionally, the Galaxy is a disk yes... but its also thousands of light years thick)

As long as you don't head in the direction of any of the obvious features, you should be fine. So, don't target
  • nebulae
  • the Galactic core
  • Green Gas Giants
  • popularly known named systems
  • extremes (top, bottom, rim)
The suggestion to not limit your router to KGBFOAM may help - but then again, L, T and Y are usually extremely boring collections of snowballs.

Thanks - I'm avoiding any of tourist attractions like Nebulae or Colonia highway but I'm keen to find a neutron star or stellar black hole.
