Newcomer / Intro How to kill 6 pirates?

Hi,

I have a mission to kill 4 pirates. When I show up at the signal source where they are, there are (at least) 6 pirates and they are all shooting at me. I can barely scratch the shields of one of the pirates before my shields are depleted to the point where I have to run.

Do I need a Corvette or two or something to kill these pirates?

They shouldnt all be shooting at you unless you have some cargo to steal in my limited experience.
However, you should be able to find single pirates at the Nav Beacon, Res sites or Interdict some from SC. They will count as mission targets (as long as it says MISSION TARGET on your HUD)

I have 35 limpets as cargo and that's it. They all start shooting a few seconds after I drop out --- at least they do if I start shooting. I'll have to go back to see if they shoot when I don't shoot first.

Is it a wing mission?

I was repelling a terrorist attack a few days ago and the instances were just like this.
Starts with a ‘Conda followed 10 seconds later by 5-6 of his mates in smaller ships...

My shields got more riddled than a prostitutes knickers. And I’d stacked missions so it went on like that for 4 hours...

OP if you fit an FSD interdictor you may be able to find your targets in supercruise and bring them down one at a time...

Not necessarily.
But you'll need lots of practice in combat and preferably well engineered ship you can fly well, knowing its strengths and weaknesses.

IIRC the mission was written out for a rank of Harmless. I'm at Expert now.

I don't have much experience, my ship is as well engineered as I can make it. I'm doing the mission trying to get a Sirius permit and an invitation from Sirius to become able to engineer the power distributor because the distributor is currently the weakest point.

With no amount of practise and of knowing your ship you can come out victorious if your ship isn't up to it. You might get lucky, but I'm not that lucky.

It's not a wing mission, I made sure of that. I'd be ok if I could fight them one after the other, or maybe two at a time --- but not 6 at once, especially not since they aren't the weakest type of NPC.

I haven't stacked missions. They are all at the same signal source, so it seems unlikely that I could interdict them? I haven't used an interdictor before.

In addition to what limpetdwarf suggested above about cargo, they can also attack you if you are carrying any mission cargo that belongs to a rival faction. I think this would include data courier items that are not physically in your cargo hold. If you are stacking missions, it may be worth llooking to see if anything like this is in your Transactions screen.

OP, can you plz post your ship and its setup? The one you're using in this.

How do I do that? Take lots of screenshots showing all the details (which is inconvenient in itself because I'd have to get them from the xbox first and I have disconnected the USB disk holding the program I would need for that because the xbox doesn't have enough USB ports)?

I'm using a Krait Mark II with a lot of engineering and 2 (I think) shield boosters, 3 overcharged miniguns one which is corrosive, 2 beam lasers and some engineered armour and hull enforcements. But all that doesn't matter when I can't even bring my weapons to bear because the enemies are so fast that I can barely hit them, like a Viper, while they are all shooting at me just fine.

A chaff unit? The ECM thing? It probably won't help much, especially since it would mean that I have even more buttons to press and get get confused even more. I really need a keyboard for this game so I can make key bindings, but unfortunately, that isn't supported.

Let try to see if they don't shoot at me when I don't shoot first and then I'll see if I can find them in a RES. It might be easy when security comes to my aid ...

PS:

I if was using bi-weave shields, I'd probably would have been shot down already. This is the only mission I have, so there shouldn't be any mission cargo left. I'll get rid of the limpets first, maybe it makes a difference.

Ok, I went to a RES without any cargo, and the pirates didn't show up. I went to the signal source and did nothing after dropping out. After a few seconds, 4 ships started shooting at me while 3 others remained neutral. A few seconds later, all 7 were shooting at me, and they took my shields down in like no time and managed to give me 20% hull damage before I could escape.

I think there is at least one Anaconda there because engaging supercruise was delayed like it gets when there is one.

I have looked at the system scanner, and there are no mission targets showing up as signal sources. So I probably can't interdict them one after the other, either.

At his point, I would abandon the mission and take another one. But perhaps you have more ideas of what I could try. I guess that mission takes a wing despite not written out to take one, but I don't know anyone I could form a wing for this with.

Are you on Xbox? I’ll be on in an hour if so...

A RES should have worked, you did stick around for a few waves to pass? To interdict them you just wait around in supercruise and scan the ships until you find one...

Yes, I'm on xbox. We could team up or somthing, but I need to start cooking now. I'll be back later, though. I'll send you a PM then.

I waited about 15 minutes but then made a mistake by shooting instead of scanning someone and decided to leave the REZ somewhat hastyly ... I need to go to another system to fit an interdictor later ...

Just go to a RES and hunt for a while, it's waaaay faster than pulling them out of cruise. The thing with hunting pirates in a RES is throughput. New pirates don't come until the current ones die or leave, so if you want to increase the odds of your targets showing up....

Best shields for Hazardous resource extraction sites are Bi-Weave, just need to run away a bit until they recharge (which is much faster than standard shields ) if you lose them but you also need to bring lots of hull and module reinforcements. Chaff is very useful whenever you are shot by multiple ships as it affects the gimballed weapons. See a build below which you can modify to your liking but if you have trouble aiming, just use gimballed weapons (avoid turrets as the damage is much smaller). If the NPCs are using chaff, un-target them so your weapons behave like fixed weapons.
