How to launch Elite Dangerous in VR?

have you tried enabling 3d ingame
options > graphics > 3d
options > graphics > 3d
You need to install SteamVR, and then when you click Launch in Steam, you select the "Launch Elite Dangerous with SteamVR" option.
With the non-Steam version I found you have to start the game, THEN within Options > Graphics, change 3D to be HMD (Head Mounted Display).
And yes, it is stupid you can't disable/enable VR mode until you've already started the game (in the wrong mode).
And the really really stupid thing is that SteamVR window will now open when the game starts - even when you've disabled VR mode! And since it opens after the game window opens, it minimises the game window, so you have to click it a second time to get to the game.

I need a little help. I have been play in VR for a good while . When playing in VR I used to have a small image of the game on my monitor I must have done some thing dumb but now the game takes up my whole monitor which screws things up. Can anyone tell me how to get that image back to the small image? I am about to tear my hair out. Using the reverb G2.
When you are playing in VR the game should set the monitor display to windowed, so check that in the graphics settings. I don't think it ever goes full screen when you are in VR, but maybe...
If it's set to windowed but still taking up the whole screen then you just need to resize the window (put your mouse pointer top left, it should change to a double ended arrow, then drag the window to resize it smaller).
