How to PROPERLY Change Your HUD Panel Colors (Colours) in Windows for All Versions of the Game

It seems the <LocalisationName>Standard</LocalisationName>
line is not needed. For me anyway, the HUD color works fine without it.

Next color to change is the loading ship color! You know, The spinning ship loading screen you see whenever you load into the game?

Here is an example:

doesnt matter what settings i try, getting rid of the orange always adversely affects the hud somewhere else

you cannot just alter one colour,it shifts every colour out of sync so suddenly something else is either invisible or goes very hazy

That's kind of the point of the thread, to provide HUDs that work.
Doh, that's a different thread - let me find that and link it.

Use a suggestion that's close to what you want and tweak it from there.

This should be a standard option in game by now. It shocks me that even a few HUD colour presets are not standard options over a year after the playerbase found a way to make any colour they wanted.

I know this an old thread but I was having the same issue as AndySpwn - not sure if this is helpful for anybody or already been figured out.

I did a bit more investigating, thinking this may be something to do with having 2 drives and created the Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics path on my OTHER drive that had the installation and it worked, so this file has to be on the same drive as your ED installation (possibly needs to be created) not necessarily the C:\\ drive.

Thanks. I'll make a note of it in the OP linking to your post and may reword the OP later as well to incorporate the info.

Cheers.

I cannot get this to work at all!

I'm running Win 10 and have Elite installed on my F: Drive (dedicated for Steam) so like the last post suggested I have created the User path under F:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics, and created the override file with an amended colour scheme from the first post (to test with) but noting! Just Orange!

What am I doing wrong? (edit: except for my spelling!)

I think they should leave the color modification more dynamic and free, eg I want to modify planet type type colors, icons and ships, pixel size type, Hostile targets colors, neutral, allies, seasons, change colors of icons Weapons, heating, numbers, names, alerts, etc., each thing can be configured in a different color separately, excluding character / player / npc images, I think it would be cooler and would improve the dynamics of HUD modification!;)

I don't have much experience with Windows 10 in particular (I have not supported it professionally the same way I have with many earlier Windows versions), but try making the file as described within your default Windows user directory as well as I have it listed in the OP – if not your C drive, whichever drive you use as your Windows system drive. This, in general, should be the default location where the game pulls this info from when the game loads up. Much of the directory tree to this path location should already be in place, having been created by the game within that Windows path. Make sure you have "show hidden files, folders, and drives" (or the equivalent) enabled in your Windows Explorer (folder) settings, and try navigating to the listed path specifically before making the file in that location. If the file is already there, then of course just use that and edit it (opening it with a text editor such as Notepad) accordingly and save it as mentioned in the OP.

If you already have the game running, you will most likely need to exit out of it and load it up again for these changes to take effect.

Apologies if I'm being redundant or overly simplistic with this explanation, especially if you've already tried this. I'm just trying to be as descriptive and accurate as I can to cover the bases.

Best of luck, and let us know here if you continue to have any issues with this or if you get it working. Either way, it will help people to further troubleshoot things.

Cheers.

Yes, it would be nice to have that level of customization, preferably within an in-game menu. This way our fellow console Commanders could have the same level of customization as well. Either way though, I'm glad we at least have some unofficially supported customization, such as it is. Some devs have taken measures to help "unofficial support" this over various updates to ensure continued functionality, for which I am grateful.

It's under "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics"

There's no "proper" way to change the colors, the game has only one HUD for every single ship since 2014. Every manufacturer buys their HUD to the same company, so if you want to invest for the future, put your money on the HUD maker.

There isn't any option to change the color of the HUD.

All, did you try to edit the file manually or are you using EDprofiler?
Also if you want to try it here is my override file. (i use a blue hud) see screen shot below:
