You're the one who orchestrated the derailment with your outright attack against Solo/PG players, which, as you clearly know, has nothing to do with the Open-specific topic of logging.

I have disdain for players that insist on rules for Open Play and who think they can shame anyone into playing a particular way especially when it's clear because they're just not good enough to survive against other players. Open is open play, it's hardcore mode, there's Private and Solo mode if you can't deal with it.

Saying that, and then saying Private Groups and Solo are great ways to play and should be encouraged, are not mutually exclusive.

Ok folks, this thread has taken a left turn at some point and has not come back on track.
My OP was done to discuss how to stop people logging. Regardless of what happens up to the point of logging. It’s still logging.
Now could we discuss how this would be stopped? I’m looking for ideas (sensible ones) or elaborate on a idea that’s already out there.

I really think we all have to first either use one consistent set of rules we establish that the entire community accepta. Rules that would be intuitive for new players and not require much explanation.

Or

Fdevs would have to set a clear and concise UI and rules with clear cause and effect.

Where we are today and what discussions have been since I came around seem to be the same place. Not sure any new ground will be accomplished without a real system change tho from the DeVs.

It's really fairly simple. You ban people for it. Oh and not three days on the shadow server lol, that's barely even a rebuke.

This will provoke some outrage but something else they should do - ban anybody who advocates it here from the forums. I've seen players openly boast about doing it on the forums and have also seen them encouraging other players to do it. FDev have unequivocally said is considered to be an exploit. At that point, I'd really expect some censure to be involved, not least because you have players suggesting that other players should follow a course of action that could lead to them being game banned. I can certainly think of other games where advocating the use of exploits on the official forum would see you permabanned from it.

I agree with you. The only ones that it would affect, would be those that do it, and in that case it wouldn’t matter if they got upset as they’re the ones cheating in the first place.

As far as I see it, some of the guys that spent money on buying this game want to play the game and others who spent their money on buying this game want to play the players playing the game, the OP is peeved because the guy he chose to beat up outside the chip shop ran off and came back with a gun... who's turn is it to run off now?
If you want to stop combat logging have a 'I don't want to play pew pew thank you' button for those of us that don't want anything to do with you.
More and more people are seeing 'Open' as a place for griefers and not what it was originally intended for... communal play not just another way to look at the rebuy screen.

This is pretty much just the textbook definition of griefing, and why I personally don't play in open anymore. I'm not interested in dealing with people who've decided that Elite is their own personal killbox.

Simple solution, dont bother/attack other players and no one will log out.

Ok so now I’m sat there with my ship in literal pieces and he logs back in with a full health ship. (Is that fair or right? Nope!)

As has been pointed out numerous times in PvP threads:

- it's only a videogame
- losing a few digital 0's and 1's is not real life
- so chill out and laugh about it

This thread depresses the ever-loving hell out of me.

So many people saying they can break the rules because they don’t like the way another player plays.

Broken metaphors and ridiculous comparisons all over the place.

Open isn’t how many people here say it is. It’s just not. And even if it were that wouldn’t justify literally breaking the rules because you don’t like it. That’s not your decision to make and I hope that going forwards Fdev come down like a ton of bricks on guys that do this.

There’s a well-known private group that caters to players not keen on pvp but looking for community. They are great guys and I admire what they’ve done for the game.

If you would log when attacked then do yourself a favour and cut out the middle man and just join like-minded players there.

Then do me a favour and don’t come on threads like this moralizing about it. Just play the game and have fun.

Above all else, don’t cheat. It’s pathetic.

No, what I’m peeved about is that person that I attacked and was about to kill after what was a decent fight. chose to exploit the game mechanics to 1) avoid the death and 2) use it to his advantage. By logging back in and having a full health ship. There’s nothing about him running off and getting a gun, he already had them. He just chose to circumvent the rules of the game.

Also there is a ‘I don’t want to play with others’ option, it’s called pg or solo. I’ve also stated why I do what I do and don’t need to go back over previous messages.

So instead of attempting to belittle something, that fdev have stated, is ok for me to do. Come up with a solution to the problem in hand. Try to be constructive and not just smash the keyboard with “well don’t attack people then”.
