How we say hello to each other in Elite!?

Hey frontiers,

I have been playing EVE ONLINE for 8 years and this game finally pulled me away :) I better take down my pos now.

Anyway I was wanting to ask the Elite community how would we like to open chat comms & say hello?

As a select few already know EVE has o/ when chat comms are opened.
Lets create a new way of saying hello to each other out there through chat comms....

Any ideas?
Looking forward to all your ideas.

kindly,

Enfield M. Fox

Some people say hello by deploying hardpoints.

Maybe it's a sign of respect like the Minbari :D

Yes, what could possibly go wrong. ;)

There was also the alleged radio message from the Minbari flagship to the Earth Alliance fleet which may have had a hand in the ensuing slaughter:

"You're our souls!"

Not this "o/", please. In certain parts of the internets this gets associated with a certain dictator with a weird looking moustache.

One thing I noticed in early betas was turning your lights on to indicate you are friendly. Not sure if that was popular, but some people did it and it was cool.

Well, one particular CMDR I've witnessed has the habit of saying hello from point blank behind you with all guns blazing

I've had a few chats with people over the past few months, problem is it's usually when we're both docking so I'm usually preoccupied with getting down in one piece.

I've only had one tool attack me out of the blue in a sidewinder, I guess he was new :D

Mostly play solo online due to networking issues and multiplayer not adding enough to my experience to make up for the bugs, but when I played open all, I occasionally 'wiggled my wings' as a sign of greeting - I don't think most noticed, but I had two occasions where the other commander definitely wiggled back.

I usually say "hello, cmdr". I like the flashing your lights though. Think I'll start doing that too.

Yes, I like this. A little roll waggle and some lights. Kinda like a dog wagging its tail and barking. Should be the galactic symbol of "Hey, lets be friends"

...

7/10 times will get shot in the face, but hey, you gotta put yourself out there to make friends, right...

I like this idea too. And the waggling.

Last night I was getting ghost comms - no ship name, no ships in contact list and whoever it was finished with a 'hello?' So maybe people don't always reply because the comms don't always go through.

Which worries me that I look overly aggressive to that commander with a bounty who stole my kill... I told you you were being cheeky, mate... Then you didn't reply so I gave you a good lasering to remember me by... :p

S/He got away though.

I haven't attempted to try communicating with anyone in the game, yet.

However, my first attempt at communicating was sending a text, to a AI ship. Of course, he didn't respond. XD

The voice comms that is in the drop down when targeting a ship is that VOIP? Like built in voice chat?

Flashing lights was a good idea. However i have a sneaky feeling that if i do that i will get bullets as hello back... :D

Yes, the voice comms is voice chat. From what I heard, it has a filter that's supposed to make it sound like you're speaking through a radio. It sounds nice, but I haven't tried it, yet.
