Always Online

Always in ALL Group. But i hope they don't put in Online Solo and Online Private group rubbish.

I haven't decided yet, waiting to see how all these 'anti-griefing' measures affect my ability to interact with other players.

I hope I will always be able to kill anyone anywhere (or just about). I don't mind the consequences, including lethal police response, but nonconsensual PvP, permadeath or equipment loss and player looting is crucial for my personal enjoyment of a game.

Yes. I like getting ganked, or rather, needing to tread carefully so that it doesn't happen.

DayZ, Eve Online, Rust, BetterThanWolves ... That's what PvP is about in 2014.

I think always online. To be as closely as possible to the real life. And also in second choice, more egoistically, the online solo mode, for that ED belongs to me exclusively

Online all, Iron Man. Given that I will only play the game in bursts rather than grind away every day for a set amount of free time etc. I do most of my gaming in this fashion now as, having reached a certain age, I can never shake the voice in the back of my head nagging me about the million other things of greater import I need to be doing before I shuffle off. :D

I think Elite will be one of those games that lends itself really well to a more casual approach (despite the game itself being quite deep). You will hopefully pick it up for a couple of hrs and set it down again without feeling like you are on a treadmill.

I also plan to play the game 100% socially. I won't be hunched over my desk alone in the dark at 3am. I will be hooking up with friends on mumble and looking to co-ordinate and co-operate.

I will be hunched over my desk in the dark at 3am. (Sometimes) hooking up with friends. If friends co-op; other times probably SP online.:)

Voted solo online, may consider a group of trusted friends if any of them decide to join in later on.

I'll be playing my main character with my wife, most probably online grouped (but excluding everyone else).

I'll play other characters online in the everyone group.

If the game handles multiplayer like it does currently then definitely all offline. Someone coming in with a poor connection really ruins the game. I might do solo online though.

This will depend a lot on other peoples behaviour. I'd love to play on-line multi-player but I don't have that much time to play so if people are going to be shooting everything that moves then it's really not for me. I don't have time to continually re-build after some trigger happy numpty has wasted me just because he can. That said if Frontier can sort out the bounties and other ways of keeping the anti-social at bay then I'll be there. If not it will be on-line solo.

In the initial stages, to get the basics (like docking - I remember my early days of Elite and crashing a lot - very embarrassing ) maybe offline. Then online for sure, although if too much griefing (I read that a lot of EVE players are coming over) then will limit it to a group.

I have said, always online.

Mainly because I like the fact that there will be other unpredictable players in the same space as me. And also I would like to try to get friends playing and set it up to we can work together.....

However, i will be keeping a close eye on how much greifing starts to happen, as I would hate for Elite to turn into the next Eve (I do like Eve BTW).

It's all a bit too early for me to decide yet.

I'd prefer to play in the online-all group, but...

  • If PvP combat becomes as prominent a part of the gameplay as it is in the current beta, then I'll be in either a private group or, more likely, online-solo.
  • If the P2P networking problems can't be addressed well enough to completely remove the supercruise hangs, docking pad glitches, disappearing statios, etc. then I'll also move to online-solo.
  • If third-party offline trading tools are anywhere near as effective in the full size galaxy as they currently are in the five systems, then I'll move to the offline-solo.

I'll admit that it may well happen, once the larger galaxy is opened up and all of Frontier's ideas addressing these issues are implemented, that all of my concerns will be adequately addressed. I certainly hope that this will be that case but it's too early for me to decide how I'll play at this early stage.

I'm gonna do ironman mode first. That'll put me in the All group. If I can I'd like to put my ID to NPC, as I dislike the idea of being ganked.

Is Ironman in a separate group to All?

Yes. Die in Ironman and you choose to die or move to ALL. Only way into Ironman is to set up a new character.

Again, whether or not I start in Ironman or not will be down to whether player ID is on or not. Although I won't be a loss to the Ironman community as it'll be a one-time thing for me and I'll continue on in ALL rather than take my medicine :) .
