Online for me. Whilst I almost always lose in a PVP fight I'm happy to have that danger present, it is supposed to be dangerous out there.
Also given the scale of the environment, meeting the same players who attack just for the hell of it is probably going to be a low probability event.
Hopefully I can also fit out my ship so I can run away fast!
Plus, if I do see a player with a significant bounty, I can afford my insurance premium easily and I'm not carrying valuable cargo, then why not have a pop and see if I've improved and get them down to a lower hull % before I'm inevitably destroyed
The unpredictability and danger of real people is far more exciting than NPCs.
Also I have flown around many players in the resource collection zone, all scanning each other and not engaging. There seems to be plenty of respect out there so far.
Shaky screen of doom and crash to desktop is the real enemy at the moment
