HTC Vive resolution and  focus

Note: I had a quick play (in between server disconnects) on the new 2.2 patch and used the VR Ultra settings. Have to say it looked great - but i CANNOT confirm that the distance issue was fixed. I need another play.
Downside...my PC/graphics cant handle VR Ultra at a reasonable frame rate....so my i5 running at 3300 and GTX 980TI is now out of date....JOY

Well I tried for so long to just ignore it but I just cant anymore. I'm running an R9 390x and inside a RES site on VR High in normal and VR Medium in 2.2 Beta the FPS drops in RES sites is unbearable. Text is readable but I notice absolutely NO difference between all VR modes in 2.2 beta. Sure turning on SteamVR SS helps but its not a fix. I have a feeling that ED is solely being optimized for Oculus when it was originally slated for Vive. Oculus's doing? Perhaps. I just want to enjoy this on my Vive as I bought my Vive because of Elite. Sure I can still play and love the game on my flat panel but I have a Vive....... I would be happy with just some type of acknowledgement from FD at this point other than the one on page 1 of this thread. Think we need a VR ambassador at FD lol.

I thought I'd pop back to this thread today to see if there had been any fix for the Vive. I brought the Vive to because of the supposed Elite Dangerous support and cancelled my Oculus pre-order. Although I enjoy playing the game in VR it is a massive disappointment as the immersion, scale and clarity is not what it should be. After the acknowledgement of the issue I feel that there should be more feedback from the Developer. I am happy to continue to wait for a fix as long as I know that I fix is being worked on and some explanation of why it is taking so long.

Yes exactly. We as the Vive/Elite community deserve at least a nod saying yes were still working on this, or no we gave up. I too still play with the vive which by the way flying the Taipan in VR blew me away it was so claustrophobic it was amazing. I just wish it performed better. better FPS, better text readability.

I have both Systems (CV1 and HTC Vive) and i must admit that the Rift does a way better job than the vive regarding ED. And in direct comparison the vive is much more ressource hungry than the Rift is. I run them on a GTX 1070 on a xeon 1231 (I7 equivalent) on Supersampling 1.25 which makes it a nice clean and sharp image in the rift, but the vives picture and performance seems even got worse in beta 2.2. The framerate on the vive is unbearable while it runs nice and smoothly on the rift. I do not know why ED still has such a problem with aliasing. Even when played on a monitor in Ultra settings the aliasing is still noticable. This is what ruins the picture in the vive when playing in VR. Although te picture in the vive is brighter than in the rift at this time the Vive is useless for ED.

As the grandfather of these issues on this forum, I am deeply saddened that after all this time (I've been complaining since the end of March so I've been waiting or almost 6 months now) it appears that FDev doesn't care. Official replies on the actual matter at heart stopped coming shortly after this thread was created. The text readability was the least of our concerns compared to the resolution and aliasing issues.

That a developer would come in here and get people who are expecting a resolution and scaling fix excited...only for the result to be text readability improvements and Rift memory optimizations...well. Time for me to start considering taking a break from this game and letting every forum of which I am a member and associates in the gaming press know why someone so dedicated to the game could find themselves so disappointed. It's not just the lack of results, but the lack of communication about the lack of results. We expected this to be resolved in the summer at the latest. Now we're hitting the fall with no relief in sight.

Note: I'm on a 1080 so I can obviously get by. But it's not perfect here either even with SteamVR hacks (I get reprojection at nearly every station and on every surface landing) and I am by default compelled to stand up for those who don't have a 1080 or Titan. FDev can and should do better. Having to make guesses as to why they have yet to is one of the most disappointing things I've seen in gaming this year.

FDev, don't bother posting in this thread unless it is an explanation as to why we haven't seen a resolution fix and/or a reasonable timeline for when we will see it resolved.

It is very disappointing that there have been no fixes and almost complete silence. That may have to do with the issues being in the rendering pipeline which is a very technical thing to explain, much harder to explain and less exciting than ship transfers or heat meta nerfs.

Maybe the community managers can't get the info from the game engine/tech teams or maybe they can't translate it, I don't know but not having a fix and worse not having any comments or ETAs now that we're in the 2.2 beta is very disappointing and has led me to taking a break from ED. I'm not saying that as a tantrum and I'm not saying I'm quitting the game forever but this Vive situation is just really disheartening.

It looks like ED Vive no man´s sky. The power of silence. Yesterday I played with beta and vive in w10.... valve knows that it´s unplayable, even with lower ss???

It looks like with new updates goes to the destruction. Oculus is the path.... forget vive ( they want that you believe in that ).

Im happy to add my name to a petition to be emailed to David Braben to ask politely to provide an update on what Frontier is doing about adressing the Vive issues.

Hi, another dissapointed vive owner here. Been waiting patiently since my Vive arrived, this being the main game I bought it for, and after six months it's still basically unplayable on a gtx 970. After buying several pieces of expensive hardware to play this game as it was advertised, I can't express how frustrating it is for the developers to ignore this issue completely.
It's such a shame as this game has the potential to be the best vr experience both headsets can offer, but it doesn't seem like a priority to them at present.

All - quick update.
I played ED beta 2.2 last night on VR Ultra...just. Yes, the frame rate dropped when approaching planets and in stations, but its my opinion that they have improved both the graphics quality and depth issues.
My pc is an i5 running at 3300 and a Nvidia 980TI. I need to do proper comparisons between the beta and normal game to make sure, but there does seem some benefit.
However, i agree, needing a supercomputer to match the performance with a Rift is a little dramatic

The first problem is the absolute haunting silence by FD (I don't accept the odd Reddit mention that "somebody" - nobody knows who :/ as shown in the video interview not long ago on some fan meeting with devs, is working on something ...)
The second problem - Enough time has passed and having 2 major updates that need to be played with faulty quality is unacceptable to all of us who happen to own Vive and Horizons. I've played only few hours since I got Vive as I simply can't return to 2D and know that I have Vive resting on my desk, so I play different games that are actually optimized as the Developers actually took the time and made sure that support for Really Expensive hardware was not on the bottom of some really long list!!!!!!!!!....
Third Problem - David Braben has himself basically said to users in the early pre-order stages - go for Vive as it is superior and since we have Commercial Vive out, they have completely screwed the Vive community with nonexistent support....
Forth Problem - 2.2 seems to cause further FPS issues for Vive owners as shown by the comments on the forums and doesn't fix any of the existing issues as seem to be the case.... If this is actually the case and these issues make it into live version of 2.2 then Frontier is really taking the p**s with the Vive owners.

I rarely complain, but this level of shambles by developer is simply unacceptable and we ( Vive users ) are owned an explanation or Frontier can send me and other Vive owners our Horizons money back instead of some Yellow paint (I know it is meant to be gold and was meant for us stupid enough to preorder as a Thank you for paying over the odds ) job for ASP as since I got my Vive I was unable to enjoy ED Horizons thanks to their lack of support for the advertised hardware... (Frontier Developer - please feel free to contact me via my email or forum message if you are going to give me refund for the substandard support for Vive you advertise)... Frontier in VR .... Hmmmm - More like frontier in broken promises it seems.

6 months guys.... 6 long months .... I'll just leave it at that...
[down][down][down][down][down]

PS - What is the point of this Forum if the Developer don't bother to come and update a thread created by them with 63 pages of support and update requests??? I mean really what is the point ?????

Well, I was going to write a long post about how my Beta 2.2 experience went in the Vive (terribly)... but you know what. I'm done.

I feel mislead by Frontier showing off Elite on the Vive at game shows in the months before it launched. I feel mislead about their acknowledgement of the problem but subsequent silence and lack of fix.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt for months, until I tried out the game in a Rift (as far as I am concerned anyone who says Elite is fine in the Vive has not tried it in a Rift). The difference in quality is maddening being a Vive owner who took the plunge primarily for Elite.

So after taking part in Distant Worlds. Flying the banner for each power in turn and generally enjoying the galaxy for the better part of 2 years I am done.

I have personally introduced 3 others to Elite (who went on to purchase it), bought Horizons... invested in a CH Pro Throttle and T16000M... and you know what. I am uninstalling and putting all that stuff into a closet until the day that the Vive version is finally fixed and this whole ridiculous scenario has been explained (why the radio silence? why the sudden switch to preferring the Rift version?) and if that day never comes... that's fine.

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me over and over again for six months... well, you know the rest.

I shall not let the door hit me on my way out. I am not even mad, just terribly disappointed. Not to be vindictive, but I will also be changing my Steam review to advise other Vive owners of this situation.

Luckily there are plenty of other games that work as advertised for my Vive to play. So long.

I could write a long and detailed constructive post, but there is no point. It's a         joke.

I spent most of the end of last year until the spring being unable to play Elite due to the Windows 10/AMD supercruise fault. I eventually get round to upgrading my PC and getting Vive, and now have to put with a substandard rendering of the output. Come back for the 2.2 beta and still nothing.

"The Vive is a superior experience"

You are not alone, i've been playing Elite in VR since beta 2 (before horizons), decided to buy a Vive( rift still not shipping to my location) after reading a Braben interview where he said that all options for VR will be looked and supported . And there it is, an astronomic joke, playing beta 2.2 with i54690k@4.4GHz and a gtx1080@1900MHz and got full reprojection in stations with framerate sometimes going below 45 (new high tech station interior)! And that's with custom settings to be sure to have all option at lowest possible value (no shadow too). Opening a menu cause reprojection to kick in(!). And still no words, just an update for oculus users having problems with memory.....

I have recently upgraded my graphics card to a AMD RX480 and really can't see any glaring problems with the Vive. The game runs smoothly in VR High settings with a Target Render Point at 2.0. I get a bit of slow down in stations and on planets but its hardly noticeable unless there are a lot of other players in the same instance like at CG's. But then my PC slowed down before I got the Vive.

Huh. I received a vive as a gift, largely to play elite. I was having serious frame rate issues with my vive in elite (gtx 1080), and figured some of other hardware was failing. Guess that wasn't (at least entirely) the case. Bad show, frontier.

Well, I don't know what to tell you. My experience on the Vive is awesome. I'm sorry you guys feel so disappointed and misled. I strongly disagree with everything you guys are saying.
