HTC Vive's Resolution Issue In Elite: Dangerous Is Damning

Finally got around to trying out ED:H VR with my new machine (2x GTX1080 Sli + i7 6700 + 16GB Ram + VIVE) and all I can say is that it was the sh*tiest VR experience I've had with my VIVE. Utterly gutted as ED was one of the main reasons I decided to splash out and build this new games machine for. For a start, the picture is juddery when you move your head and there seems to be an issue with the resolution being too low for the VIVE as reported by people earlier in this post. I've been enjoying my VIVE up until now and this is the first game I have encountered any problems with. Other stuff is silky smooth and a delight to use. Extremely disappointed with the VIVE support so far in ED. Hopefully No Mans Sky (when it eventually gets released) will not have such serious issues.

SLI dose not work, tyr turning it off, this should stop the juddering.

Maybe Elite needs to be reprogrammed using Unity or Unreal Engine 4, as Nvidia VRworks API suite enables the power of the cards to be used in VR games. You could have 4x 1080 GTX in SLI, two for each eye...that should be good graphics.
Or can Frontier make their engine compatible with NVIDIA goodies? It should be worth it for a 10 year game.

Thank you SystemShift, that has improved things by 50%. I should have realised that the Sli was causing the juddering problem. However, this resolution issue still needs fixing. No excuse for it really. Perhaps we should chip together and buy a VIVE headset for the Frontier Developments guys... ;-)

Ah yes no mans sky the ED killer, you do realize there is no VR support in that game right. They are thinking about maybe adding it in the future.

I was under the impression that it had VR support "out of the box". If not... Oh boy, you've just killed my desire for VR...

The developers need constructive feed back which means good explanations, videos and pictures of the game showing the problems. They know there is a problem and the more people who give feedback to them the quicker and easier it will be to fix. I hope :)

No NMS guys have never said they support VR, they've said the technology is interesting and would be neat in their game, that's it.

Elite has pretty fantastic VR support tbh - but its complex games that have VR added in as an additional feature like Elite, DCS, Project Cars etc that really reveal the weakness in current gen hardware in terms of performance and resolution issues. Its still pretty damn amazing, but there are many many trade-offs at this point.

I do Elite VR with my Vive maybe a third of the time I boot the game, its cool but too unpleasant on the eyes to do all the time.

turn of AA , set supersampling for 1.5 or 2.0 and let me know how is now..

Is there any solution for all the bright lights? I'm flying a T6 and I'm surrounded by stupid bright lights in the cockpit which are all causing glare in my Vive. I can't play it anywhere near the length of time I used to in my DK2. I hope Frontier are going to address this problem as much as they are the resolution!

You need to disable SLI for the Vive (this will stop most of the juddering).

The Nvidia SLI fudge of forcing alternate frames only works for the Oculus.
