[Humour] Dev. Notes #1: NPC ramming in 2.0...

[Humour] Dev. notes #1: NPC ramming...

Dev 1: "...you know, after the ramming fines came in 1.4 people are still pretty much speeding in and out and around stations with impunity."

Dev 2: "Hmm, OK I know, let's make the security ships ram into them, often, that won't be annoying or in any way a clumsy fix for that."

Dev 1: "Perfect, I'll code it right away!"

Dev 1: "Consider it done"

oh dear - Another person crying into their beer because they cant cope with a basic simple well known rule of the game
.
and in doing so making a mountain out of a molehill

Elite is supposed to be like a sim. Imagine cops ramming your car when you roll off the ferry or leave a car park.

That doesn't really bother me too much I must be honest, but I do get macked off with the NPC that comes in from supercruise and proceeds to go full throttle at you without scanning and for no reason at all. They are not trying to dock as this usually happens to me in a RES site, plenty of space around, neither the NPC or I are wanted and yet they still fly straight into you at max chat! If I am looking the other way and having a handbag fight with another ship, I can lose my shields or worse the whole ship. Not cheap!

Elite is NOT a sim its a game
.
There is nothing realistic about any of the flight mechanics of the game - nor is there meant to be
.
There are plenty of accidents in the uk where people end up in the path of speeders because they misjudged the closure speed due to some idiot doing 60 in a 30 zone.

hmmm, it's the notion of the clumsiness of the game mechanics that's making me 'cry into my beer', rather than the clumsy flying ;)

Comment from a friend of mine who doesn't read patch notes when I explained why we have speed limits now.

"Oh, that is what that new speeding message is about. I never got fined so I just ignore it."

Dev 1 did a fine job, pirate NPCs do indeed now love nothing more than a good ramming......usually as my shields are approaching full strength, i swear they must lie in wait... Just a few more minutes, right his shields are nearly back to full strength, 4 pips to engines ramming speed !!

Dev 1: So we've got pirates in RES, and we've got cops... cops go after pirates, and players can go after pirates, too....

Dev 2: Yeah, but they've got to complete a scan first before shooting.

Dev 1: Oh... okay... and if the pirate they wanna shoot is already trying to murder an innocent miner?

Dev 2: Still need to scan them first. Takes about 5 seconds or so.

Dev 1: But that could mean the difference between life and death for the miner... What if I fire on the pirate who is obviously trying to murder a civilian trying to defend said innocent civilian?

Dev 2: Then every ship in the instance will try to kill you, because you have got a 200 cr bounty on yourself.

Dev 1: Wait... even the cops who should be going after the pirate?

Dev 2: Especially the cops. Even the miner you were trying to defend!

Dev 1: Yeah.... hm... does that make sense, though?

Dev 2: Ssshhh.... just trust me! The forum backlash will be hi-la-ri-ous! :D

Dev 1: Ooooooohhhh.... now I understand! *trollface* :D

It's a space sim, or at least as close as the devs can get. There is an insane amount of science that went into its creation.

So where does the humour come in, or do you mean Irony/sarcasm when you mean humour.

The humor lies in the absurdity of the situation. Like a flaming midget with an axe.

Will you be releasing any other minutes from meetings at FD ? :)

Please explain the science behind Lasers emitting light where there are no electrons to excite to a state where the covert energy to light photons?
.
Please explain the scientic theory behind Frame shift drives for supercruise
.
Please explain the scientific theory behind Hyperspace and FTL travel
.
Please explain the science behind top speeds and our ability to control a ship like an aeroplane in space

its nowhere near a sim

Come on Commanders. Lets all sit around the fire, have a smoke, and sing songs of love and peace.
