Hunting with Chiggy....

That works, although not perfectly, but there is something better: EDJP has features built specifically for this. To elaborate, once you've set the boxel survey up, it'll automatically put the next system in your clipboard (so that you can just paste it in the galaxy map), and can also be set to skip ones that are on EDSM or if you've already visited them before.

I have downloaded that but not really looked into it much, I will check it out!

The best way ever was back when the import star function still worked, put all the systems not D mass on a list and import it...then eco mode on unvisited only (but this would also include any G,K,M systems into the search). But with that disabled, I filter out all but A and F systems, then starting at the -0 system, working my way up numerically on eco plot, works very well up to about the -200 system or so then it starts getting crowded with already visited systems which I bypass manually, but it comes out in the wash I guess.
My old way included all D mass systems but was faster, my "new" way is a bit slower, but I have 10-12% less to scan by not checking the G,K,Ms which are poor producers anyhow...
I can't really use any 3rd party tools anymore as I refuse to play on Odyssey.

You're still playing Horizons 3.8 legacy?
Shame as it means your discoveries don't show up in Horizons 4.0/Odyssey.

Yeah, I logged into new version once...(Didn't care for the maps or the interface...) never went back. Least they gave the legacy version...I was afraid it was gonna be a forced upgrade there for a bit.
It took some adjustment to get used to the new menus andmaps for me, but for the most part I now regard them as an improvement. They are not perfect though. Exobiology is a nice addition to exploration gameplay for which the DBX is well suited.

I'll second this, you should give it some time Chiggy. I strongly disliked the UI when first released and there are still things I dislike - but on the whole it is an improvement, it just takes some getting used to. Even if you end up playing Horizons still but on Live, we'll actually get to see your tags :) . The ability to "skip forward" in galmap searches might be particularly useful for targetted searches like yours.

I'd mosey on back if they reinstated the import stars function (highly doubtful) or maybe the ability to use multiple filters in the galaxy map. I hate the FSS as much today as when it came out...I already have to endure that, lol.

There are a lot of filters on the galaxy map. I think at least as many as in "legacy". You can filter by star type and visited / not visited which I guess are the ones important to you. I use it myself to increase the chances of finding more valuable planets and planets with exobiology signals while travelling.
I think I'm too new to the game (20 months in now) to know anything about the import stars function.
It's just such a shame you're playing in a separate version of the galaxy that has a drastically diminishing player base. 3rd party websites don't support legacy mode, so trading is near impossible and the BGS and power play is dead due to so few players. I know you're play style doesn't rely on these features, but it is still part of the galaxy you play in.

I think the worst thing for explores in Horizons live and Odyssey is the lighting can be darker which mean nebulae are dimmer and sometimes invisible unless you fiddle with gamma correction or enhance any screenshots you take using software on your computer. Windows photos app does it well enough.

He want to apply "multiple" filters at the same time! So for instance "visited/not visited and star class K", rather than "visited/not visited or Star class K."

I have spent the last couple days trying to figure out how to get this to work properly. I mean, how do you get a working list of systems to put into the survey? Best I can do is a chain of certain systems like c23-0,1,2,3 and so on.

4216 searched, 150 ELWs discovered with a revised hit rate of 1 in 28.1

5135 systems searched, 181 ELWs discovered for revised hit rate of 1 in 28.37. I have completed the cube numerically up to -3000 (skipping G and K systems). 6561 remain in the sequence with 3074 having already been searched, leaving 3487. However, another quirk in this cube, it seems to have way above the average number of G and K systems (at least so far...somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25%) which means I've only got 2800 or so left...

After 5 months, the cube is finished (at least the A and F systems) and here are the results.......There were 9563 systems total, of which 7466 were searched (some 22% being other than A or F and being skipped) A total of 263 ELWs were discovered, for a hit rate of 1 in 28.39 My curiosity may get the better of me, and I may return and at least check the G systems, but not any time soon...lol

Other than the outstanding hit rate itself, a few things I noticed about this cube....a HUGE amount of WW's and almost absence of any Gas Giants. No ringed ELWs at all, I guess that goes hand in hand with no Gas Giants, as that's where they are almost always found. No ELMs as well, even though my collected statistics say there should have been 3-4....
I discovered 150 ELWs in the first 2 months with my initial search method, while it took 3 months to discover the remaining 113 sifting through the remnants by manually plotting each jump to avoid previously visited systems, so the time management leaves a bit to be desired.....

Below is a breakdown of the discoveries in the cube as well as my total overall. After finishing this, it brings my grand total so far to 3826...y'all have one guess as to my next mission!
