I want to know the actual text where that came from as well! Please?
As I said in an earlier post, its mentioned in Elite: Mostly Harmless

I think it is a weird design choice. On the one hand a hype for Thargoid content is being built up for years now, on the other hand the actual game mechanics only reward shooting them, while at the same time they don't act hostile to players....all wild speculation but I definitely want more information before I start getting directly involved - thus my reasons for remaining a conscientious objector of the Aegis provocation.
As I said in an earlier post, its mentioned in Elite: Mostly Harmless
And in Out of the Darkness they attack Moira's homeworld and walk around, mercilessly attack and torture

The Alcatraz Class Prison Ship designation JJF-048 was last reported in orbit of the planet HIP 17692 A 3.
The ship is heavily damaged, destroyed by weapons consistent with other Thargoid attacks, leaving green hull scarring and some kind of green gas throughout the area.
Didn't work out well

Our latest tests were extremely successful. The mycoid can paralyse a Thargoid system - either physically or technological - in a matter of seconds. It is extremely effective.
I confess: the knowledge that the mycoid causes the Thargoids physical pain brings me some measure of satisfaction. But when one has seen, first hand, the effect of their weapons - seen the destruction, the chaos, the bodies - can one be blamed for wanting them to suffer, as we have?
And the other 15% are the murderous bast**** in the Pleaides Sector. As I said in an earlier post, its mentioned in Elite: Mostly Harmless
Having listened to DB's opinions on all things space and extra-terrestrial, Id be very surprised if this is as cut and dried as 'Humans good, Thargoids bad'. That's not to say we're going to get a lot of really complex in-game ethical choices, but I'd wager there's a twist in the tail here, to some degree.

Too late for me, 3 down, "?" to go.

See! Thargoids are evil aliens. They probably bred Scott Ridley's aliens.
We have to be forever vigilant. We come in peace, shoot to ....... Whatever. Get bigger guns. Anybody tried bugspray yet?
Those liners, tankers and prison ships were not Aegis, but they are still dead.
Maybe there are different types, as we are. The worst thing that could happen if we react like someone once bitten by a dog, now killing all dogs because he thinks all dogs are evil. This reaction is quite common for humans. No one says Thargoids are necessarily the wise guys...
But why am I not attacked? They must have something thargoids deem important, but what?
This from a species that engages in corporate mass murder, assassination, piracy, enslaves its own species, and regularly preys upon weaker citizens just getting their start in space. Hooray for humanity. It won't be long before you see some human wings fighting along side the bugs. Things could and should get more morally obscure-- interesting. The Thargoids just might have a point.

There is a commander who has never fired on a Thargoid, but when she checks out a non-human USS she has been killed by the Thargoid ship. (I believe a few times)
Those of you that say the Thargs never fire first are wrong.
Many commanders fire first, and many Thargs fire first.
Play the game. Don't analize it. (If analasis is required, try analizing STALKER)
I really believe this is an ongoing learning situation. We can talk about it all day (which is good because we seemed to have left name-calling in the dust) but I think any long term play is still being written by the programmers.
There are anomalies. You shoot first. They shoot first. The Cmdr I mentioned said she had nothing on board to attract a first attack.
I'll repeat myself. Shootemup if you want, don't if you want or be like me and stay up north. (And make mooollaaahh)
haha. Is that a pun, a sarcasm or something else?I'm actually thinking of moving to the Pleiades you know. I've been bitten by the bug.
Me not, but I just realised that this is also a good reason to move to the Pleiades.![]()
