I am sorry. I am also upset.

I want to start this by apologizing to Sally and the rest of the Elite team for my comments on Twitter. I said that that made it sound as if you do not care about accessibility for Elite when the visual changes were made to the unknown flare.

There are many things that have been done for accessibility. I know that there are several things done to make the game more accessible. I love everything the sound team has done, my being angry at the audio puzzles are not a dig at them, just the lack of a visual component to go along with it.

I was upset when I wrote it. That is my fault.

I lash out when I am either A) Undergoing financial hardship, or B) Under extreme pain, and when I did so, I made the mistake of tweeting hours after I had dental surgery and the numbness had worn off.

I am upset at being lied to, me being in pain was just the bit that put me over the edge. I was upset that two of Elite: Dangerous’ previous producers told me face-to-face during three separate visits to the UK, that audio-only puzzles would not be done anymore for anything in the future and that it was going to be policy. I am upset of having this discussion with CM’s face to face at conventions talking about Elite and then we go right back into an audio only puzzle. We have had the Thargoid probe with hidden images in the audio, the Eagle Eye stations that output only audio and no text, and the Thargoid ground bases that have used audio only, to the Thargoid links that chirp in binary without any visual indicators. When the flair was reduced to what it is now, it effectively became an audio puzzle to locate. It would be as if everyone in the UK could hear a buzzing, but only those in Cambridge could see the source. If there was someone deaf or hard of hearing in Scotland, they would not even be aware of it. The puzzles are cool, yes, I am not denying that. But there could be more. There are more people percentage wise with hearing disabilities than color blindness, 30% vs 10% roughly.

I was/am upset how the visuals of a current event was prioritized over the fact that the entire game loop of core mining has effectively been broken for over a year, because the pulsewave scanner has been broken since Update 6 in July 2021, which broke the visual scanner. About 90% of the time, rocks will light up far away (5+KM) and upon a level of detail change, they do not glow anymore. All the rocks will still have fissures though. If you know what to look for, you can still core mine, and find crackable rocks within viewing range of each other. I feel for new players, because any guides showing the working way is not what they see in the game now. I am also told that it also became a bug in Horizons last year as well, so across both versions of the game. (I have written about 10 bug reports for this, because they get marked expired or merged, but will get to that later)

I was/am upset that the bug that was introduced with the Odyssey Alpha that makes vertical and lateral thruster work at 50-60% thrust, unless you turn rotational correction off is still in to this day (if you think your docking computer is crashing a lot more, it is because it can not use full thruster power, because it turns rotational correction on). PvPers, racers, and AX combat commanders have been yelling about this since Odyssey launched, because they tend to be ones that are pushing their ships to the absolute limits of maneuverability. I am upset that any bug report that we have put in for this keeps getting marked as “not happening on our internal dev builds” All I can say to that is “shadow bug” and not a number error. We have had it happen in the past that dev builds treat NAN situations differently, and we have video evidence that it is happening on our player client builds, and being told that it is not happening is frustrating. It is frustrating to see CMs on the livestreams crash into things because of this bug and then laugh about it.

As a VR user, I am upset that I had a former FDev member came into my stream, and told me exact terms to put in my bug report so the programmers know exactly what to look for and change, to get rid of A) rocks that flashed on and off as you are flying low over planets surfaces, and B) ship shadows in VR strobing on and off rapidly as you fly over planets, and either marking them as A) Expired because of a game update, or B) Merging them with something unrelated, then those expire. This is headache inducing strobing shadows/light when in glide over some planets. You should not have to take a headset off or look away from a screen because the strobing of shadows is getting that intense. It makes me upset that I was given a FDev member who was to be my point of contact, to get these major things passed on to the Elite team, and they were moved off of Elite, and was never told that there to be a different POC to send things to.

When it comes to bugs, can we please get some changes to the Bug Reporting Site so if a bug has not been fixed upon release of an update, and it being marked expired, it can be brought active again? Some of us write very in-depth reports and it takes a lot of time to do all of them again. I have 94 reports alone, and that is not counting the ones that got merged with others, because the Bug Report site is broken because it then removes those from showing up under your contributed listing. I only found some of my previous reports when I was going through others and was like “Hey, this person has the exact same, oh wait, that's mine”.

I love Elite. I love playing the game when I am not sick and in between surgeries where my head is not swimming in a pain med induced cloud. I want to continue helping to make the game be better.

I know that the Elite team are trying, it is just I am getting frustrated with things and I directed it at Sally and the Elite team on Twitter. I am sorry.

If you play Elite on PC and need a program to change your HUD colors to something that can be seen with different types of colorblindess, check out https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-hud-mod-edhm.557033/page-56#post-9946713

If you need programs that can take audio and create a live visualization when pointing it toward stereo mix or your computer's equivalent, check out https://github.com/tlecomte/friture/releases/tag/v0.49 Audacity can work too, but is not live

After your report expired I took the liberty of resubmitting it - it reached Confirmed status and can be voted for, though it hasn’t been Acknowledged (yet, hopefully):

Ship shadows flashing and SRV shadows disappearing can be voted for here:

Hope you have a smooth recovery after your dental work 👍

That's exact reason I stopped submitting bug reports to FDev. Issue tracker is just a black hole. Sometimes I think that much better would be to have a dedicated forum section for bug reports so the community can maintain it, add labels, upvote without restrictions etc.

Malic, I don't know you and you don't know me, so my advice may be worth nothing to you. I will still give it though. Use it at your discretion.

It is good that you realize you lashed out unfairly. What is not good (and not healthy) is your recent obsession-like behaviour and campaining towards ED and its development team. Your streams have developed into you ranting and raving for hours over the issues you try to press instead of playing the game. My advice: Take a step back, calm down and stop trying to change things you have no influence on. It's not healthy, especially when you already struggle with your health. Try to enjoy the game as it is, not as what it could be if... that's not going to happen. If you cannot do that, maybe you should take an extended break. Lots of fun games out there.

Wish you the best for your recovery. Pain from dental problems is one of the worst.

you are not yourself when you are hungry :p (loljk)

cringing at your past actions supposedly means you have grown as a person

i appreciate you and your honesty. and while i generally agree, let me offer you perhaps a bit different pov.
lashing out is not only natural, but sometimes necessary. its a product of ill events that you experienced and it became a voice for hope for change, for correction, for restoring balance. its part of natural cause and effect mechanism. condensation and wind may cause storms, but sometimes you need a storm to grow some crops. if the fanbase didnt lash out, we all know how the sonic movies would look like. sometimes you need to be a insert 4 letter nickname for richard for good things to happen. and sometimes you get carried away with zealotry, especially when you know you are right.
i wish both you and elite a speedy recovery from all ailments :)

@Malic, I still remember the stream where you took Ed and Will for a little spin. Good stuff, that was! But I'm afraid you're just now experiencing what some of us have been experiencing for awhile now. The only thing that makes it better is just to accept it for what it is and either move on or not. The issue tracker is a joke; full stop. We all know it...if you are seriously renewing almost a hundred issues by yourself? I don't know what to say to you other than "stop." Imagine how much of your life you'd be getting back. Since the time of Sandro and the Space Loach, FDev have made it clear that they are going to make the game that they want to make, which is entirely their perogative. Bugs don't get fixed, shiny things get priority, and yes, it's "working as intended." Don't let it affect your mental health, man. Sorry about the pain and the dentist stuff. Hate that.

@Malic I'm sorry you're in such pain. I have chronic pain for the last 30 years so I completely understand the "lashing out" and how easy it can be to go over the edge. It definitely amplifies our feelings, at least for me it does.

I hope things improve for you, in the game and in real life as well. :)

Yeah, sorry to hear you're not too well mate, hope you feel better soon.

@Malic Please stop with the negativity towards Elite and instead try to find the positives and make that your streaming focus. People don't like to watch rants on stream.
And if there is no positives you can see ? It's very subjective , some like , some don't , some are stuck in the middle. Let Fdev know if they have done good , but equally let them know they haven't and hope they listen .

I do personally feel your pain mate as I'm a perfectionist but I learned years ago to pick my battles. Sadly, as it stands, the 4.0 version of the game has more issues than the Telegraph and none seem to ever be looked at. The issue tracker is a farce as it's always somebody else's fault whether it be the payment system or game performance and issues. Passion is there but willingness is not.
With all the issues present in 4.0 I find it almost ludicrous for them to have backseated 3.8, a perfectly playable and nowadays very well performing release. No mention in their roadmap of fixing the myriad of issues in 4.0, just a mention of 'optimisation' here and there.
While I love the narrative and the thought that's gone into it, I dread firing up Odyssey - dread it as I know I'll get stressed by the terrible performance and issues so I stay in Horizons literally as much as possible.
The problems all lie with transparency, Frontier operate under the if 'it's not acknowledged by us it's not really an issue' mantra and they very, very rarely acknowledge issues as their own.
Here's a suggestion Frontier, do a live stream that acknowledges the issues and give firm reassurances they are actually being resolved and not ignored in favour of narrative. Get David Braben on! He's like the most camera shy person in the World even though the Elite universe from 1984 onwards was his baby.
Malik mate, take a breather, don't stop streaming, just play Horizons for a while, do some basic stuff in there and just enjoy it without worrying about it.
o7 all and all my love to the ED Team who are working their socks off.

I mean it doesn't take a genius to realize the current issue tracker isn't working.
If it was, bugs would eventually get fixed and not stay in the game for years. And CMs ending in 'ally' wouldn't have to go through the forum to point out bugs to the dev team.
The issues tracker is obviously just for 'user comfort', a place for the users to shout at a cloud and release their frustrations. But nothing will come of it.

They could have the best issue tracking software in the world - or, you know, even a mediocre one they found by searching "best free bug tracker" and picking the 7th option - and still not do anything with the output. The current one just makes it obvious that they're not interested in bug reports.

I'd say the issues tracker is more for 'user discomfort' - between the bugs in the issue tracker itself stopping people submitting reports at all, the frustrating confirmation/expiry system, the lack of feedback options, the poor search function, and so on they'd actually get more user comfort by reopening an unstructured "Bug Reports" forum here and never reading the contents. As you say, complaining about specific bugs on the forum generally has an equally good fix rate ... and better for some types of bug.

If you know this, why would you do a stream when you are not 100% stable?

is it a monetised stream? i know i have forced myself to work on occasion when i am far beyond my best. perhaps that is why.
also sometimes having a full on rant can be theraputic. Depending on what kind of content you create that could be a good or a bad thing for your career however.

Note have never watched malics streams so sorry if they are dumb suggestions.... the only streamers i watch tend to be about renewable energy............. or Jonathan Pie (everyone should watch Jonathan Pie)
