I Confess - I have upgraded no EDO FPS gear.

Yep - it's true. Three accounts, ship engineers unlocked on all of them. Reset one and re-unlocked the ship engineers and Corvette and Cutter x4. All Guardian gear unlocked. Thousands of hours in.

Goofed around with a few on foot missions, but dang - I just can't do it. I got the Hush and unlocked the first engineer, but then - stopped.

I'm not even sure if the engineering time is equivalent between the FPS gameplay and the ship gameplay - I'm just not interested in EDO FPS the way I am in CP2077, Warzone, Doom, ME etc.

Digging around in lockers and waiting for uploads - it's just awful. You don't even loot bodies.

Yes I have my blue shiny suit from Exobio. Might slooooowly grind on that.

I had a blast doing ship anti Xeno last night, but the thought of that EDO FPS "shudder" - no.

Who else want to confess their sins of playing EDO and shunning the FPS and FPS engineering? Spill it.

Fair enough. I've played a fair bit of the EDO ground stuff so far but not really got into the engineering either. I have picked up G3 gear at Pioneer supplies as I've visited a few which makes any task manageable. Engineering beyond that isn't overly necessary but can just be a by product of playing the game. Mission running in EDO on foot missions can make a good change where BGS is concerned. I love its change of pace while remaining part of a cohesive galaxy.

Well, I'll happily chip in. I bought a few suits after Odd release, but I only use the green shiny one, because the looks. I haven't done anything to it, but remove the helmet. Also the legs are wasted on me. Playing in VR they are pretty useless.

Edit: This one :alien:👉

I make no apology for not being attracted to shooting people (ships is fings innit) and the exobiology thing nearly make me start self-harming. Horizons is the ticket, Odyssey is not worth the bother.

P.S. Oh yes - I don't even know where any of the Oddy engineers are or what it takes to meet / unlock them (or even who they are).

Not sure about 'confessing' but I haven't done any EDO combat at all, nor have I used a shuttle (I tried one in the Alpha).
I'm also still CQC Helpless.

I may try them at some point in the future and certainly am no advocate for their removal from the game but in a game with FTL armed & armoured spaceships, getting out of the thing & using a hand-held weapon just isn't something I have a use for (so far) :)

I have bought some pre-upgraded gear but nothing that gives me a meaningful benefit over stock for how I have played since Odyssey arrived.

I confess too.

I have started playing after a break of many years, and installed Ody directly but so far, I can't even say I tried out the mechanics. I bought some suits (how many are there, 3?). I have done 1 surface mission, because I was stuck in a fringe system waiting for a FC to pass through, and there were literally no ship missions to pick up. I had to deliver a USB stick to someone I think... kinda awkward.

I mean... I'm a multi billionaire shipowner. I pilot 1000T starships. I decide the fate of systems. Why would I risk taking shrapnel with the grunts when I can just make more billions? Odyssey just doesn't fit so well when all the CMDRs in the galaxy are billionaires. But maybe there's some gameplay there, we'll see.

Well, no. Afraid I have upgraded suits. Some of the mods like night vision and jump assist are genuine nice things imo. (Jump assist works like a full on junior jet pack with unlimited flight in low enough gravity)

Get what you mean about the looting but via some judicious use of the mission board filter and the barman exchange you can keep that down to a minimum imo .. especially if you limit yourself to only looting abandonned bases. Couldn't help myself though, I Iove disassembling base security by stealth and it's pretty rare I leave the power reg for the next guy.

Kind of nice to know plenty of people get by fine without doing it at all though.

I have 4 suits all bought with a mod pre-attached. So far none of them have been tinkered with further.
A selection of guns most with mods attached. I'm getting close to taking the first one from G2 to G3.
The bulk of the problem has been figuring out what I'm looking for.
Looting an abandoned settlement, crashed satellite, crashed ship or smuggler's containers is simple enough though disposing of the smuggler's/looters is invariably done in the SRV from about half a km away...🧀

That said going through the abandoned settlements is very Aliens-esque. Half expecting a Xenomorph/Genestealer/Thargoid to leap out at us from the shadows...

I play in EDO but never bother with FPS other than trying out a few combat things. I’ve maxed out my backpack inventory for no in reason at all just because it was cheap, found a few upgraded weapons for sale but done no gathering or engineering myself. I’m not even exactly sure what to do for eng but I assume it’s a similar grind situation to ship engineering and that is probably why it just doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve spent so long maxing out my ships the idea of starting all over again on foot just makes me shudder. So I play in EDO just for the novelty of it. In hindsight, wish I’d just bought a fresh copy with a new on foot commander only, no ship at all. Maybe I’ll try that one day.

That's ok OP, there is no need to upgrade any suits or weapons. Just whatever you can buy. Grade 3 is good, with some pre-engineering better.

If shopping for goods, the main things are a mav suit with night vision can be a boon and a weapon or two with the silence mods on them for silent takedowns without having to use your zapper.

With those, you can do any mission or combat zones.

However, i have upgraded all my suits and engineered them (dominator two of them), main weapons are grade 5 engineered, now working on other weapons grade 5 and engineering. Yeah, it takes some time to get everything, but as long as you are clever about it, its not too big a pain. Its all just a matter of how quickly you want to do it all.

But if you are not interested in the FPS content at all, then you don't even need grade 3, or even grade 1, unless you want to play Barbie.

I have upgraded 5 suits (1 Art, 2 Mav and 2 Dom) and their weapons to grade 5 plus engineering so far 😋 There are players who did similarly or more in a matter of a few months. Nowadays most key materials (except unlocks) can be obtained through missions.

Having said that, dont grind if you dont want to, most missions can be done with basic gear or premade G3 obtained in Pioneer, you just need to be a bit more careful and patient to get them done.

I have 2 weapon at grade 5, and 3 fully upgraded suits, the mods at least for the weapons, need to be fully detachable and treated like modules in the outfitting panel, so you can mix compatible mods around all your weapons. There are no logic in the visor upgrade not been removable.

I think I've upgraded 4 once each now. Both pistols, the energy AR and the energy SMG. I've also bought the badboy shotty that was upgraded once and has some engineering on it, because of those things, but I have zero interest in the shotty.

I gave up on the tutorial part way through and haven't deliberately* done any on foot stuff since.
*I've run over some fellas on my SRV when they surprised me and I panicked, then shot some with missiles but that's about it, definitely never unlocked any engineers etc.

It's all about space stuff for me and the good thing is you don't have to play on foot if you don't want to. Some of my friends love it and have a great time, so there's definitely gameplay there if it's your sort of thing. Maybe I'll give it a go in time.
As will all ED, play the bits you like and ignore the bits you don't. (y)
