I demand an answer for this disconnection issue

Are you getting disconnected in all game modes? Until recently I had all but given up on open, as I was getting disconnected every jump, accessing menus etc. As it turns out my router for reasons only known to itself had turned off uPnP. Turning it back on obviously fixed it. Failing that I was going to set up port forwarding.

Setting up port forwarding is a better idea. UPnP is a security risk, and unecesary.

Blame the brits, they still use telegraph lines for internet. Britain is still 20yrs behind in tech for the people. Arkansas could conquer Britain. All the EU is puissant countries smaller than any US states.; Must really sukk that the US rules the planet.l

you should thank the brits for your net mate......if it wasn't for the English/british your great country would still be mainly native Indians......your just another Australia to us.

Nah, simply not true. My new router arrived this morning... it's state of the art I tell ya!

This is exactly like being at work listening to clients complain that our service doesn't work because they have a godawful network architecture, and keep revolving around some fallacy to support a realistically untenable argument.

Listen, every day now, from the moment i downloaded the game, to now which has been about a month, ive been disconnecting upwards of 8 times every day i play it and i want to know WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON?!

What's going on is your poor network connection, which no-one else has an issue with unless they too have a poor network connection.

Why am I disconnecting so dang much?! This is seriously affecting my gameplay and its causing me to not even want to play this game anymore or even reccomend it to other people, and I GREATLY enjoy this game when its working.

And here's the "I will singlehandedly destroy your reputation if you don't help" bit, followed up very quickly by the "But I like your product" bit to make it sound less confrontational.

Ive tried going to the bug forums to no avail, none of my topics have been even brought up on bug thread to even be talked about.

And for follow-up, the "Your previous support has been awful" bit.

I live in america if that makes any sort of difference.

No, it doesn't.

Im extremely frustrated

We know...

and i want to know why im disconnecting so much? I dont disconnect on ANY other game this frequently. Yes i'll have the occassional disconnect on some of my other games but that is in the allowable amount of at MOST 2 times per day.

...followed by the absolutely classic fallacy that because other services work it implies it's this particular service at fault, despite the fact that you're running perhaps a few other services well but there's tens of thousands running ED without the issue you're having. As for WHY you disconnect this much? I don't know, you tell us.

The disconnects mainly happen when im jumping between systems, wing or no wing. I want an answer and I want it fast, after a month of this happening im seriously frustrated!

And finally, "the ultimatum" to pressure someone into fixing it, with further repetition of "I'm frustrated" for effect.

My friend, have you considered a career in suing for a living?

Looks like you have answered your own question here. You admit you are getting disconnects on other games. How can this be a Frontier problem? It's highly likely to be a connection issue at your end. Router or line issue. Have you not raised a support issue with your ISP? That would be my first place to look.

Not sure what's going on in the background, but in the last 2-3 days I've seen
- frequent Mission Board timeouts
- severe lag disengaging into [anywhere]
- medium to severa lag getting Docking Requests granted
- super-lagged Hyperjumps
- endless Hyperjumps
- frozen Client
- CTDs
- Comms breakup with Friends
- Friends texting me - but by Client doesn't even see them as Online (unable to reply)
- severe lag of spawning anything (Objects and NPCs in USS)
- frequent disconnects (Matchmaking or Adjudication Server)

All on Top of Wing/Group Members reporting similar issues.

Hope it doesn't get worse.
Nothing changed on my part during the last months, everything unchanged.

FWIW, after 2.1 I suffered from a lot of disconnects. Eventually I tried the fixed port config rather than UPnP (across two routers), and they went away. At some point near a weekend they came back. I checked my IP address, and it had changed. Updated my port forward rule and boom, went away again. If you haven't done it yet, try port forwarding.

What's your ISP?

The problem is unlikely to be the game or FD's servers. The logic behind that statement is that if it were either of those two then everyone would be experiencing the same thing you are finding.

You've got a logic error there. It assumes everyone is playing the game in the same way. They are not. Some people are visiting places that have a lot more graphics data to deliver from the servers.

Uhm, not quite. Even the majority of server-side games still have the graphics data hosted on the client machine, but particularly with ED being P2P, the only thing the server does is handle game data - your progress, updates with the BGS etc.

yes i admit that im getting disconnects on other games, however that allowable limit is simply that random chance disconnect that everyone has. I cannot leave that piece of information out because i know that SOMEONE is gonna be devils advocate and say "well no one never disconnects from a game!" -_-

im about to see if this server maintainces fixed my issue.

edit: Nope, I will repeat myself, i would have NEVER brought this here if the bug forums decided to help me out in the first place. I would like to thank you all who decided to provide ACTUAL GOOD information rather than       at me for being frustrated like most people here.

Frontier Tech support has been very responsive--usually within 24-48 hrs after opening the ticket--to any issues I've had in the past. The Bug Report may also work but it is an entirely different mechanism and less suited for the severity of the recurring issues you have experienced. It doesn't take long to open an initial ticket and they usually get back to you pretty fast to ask any additional info on your system config they need to isolate the root cause of the problem.

In the meantime if you haven't done it already, you may want to check for a firmware update on your router and apply it, or just try a quick reboot of the device. It'll clear all cached ARP entries and other memory-hogging bits that can impact overall performance. I'm assuming you're connecting to it via Ethernet and not Wi-Fi, which I would not recommend for a heavily server-side (cloud-based) app like Elite. Other multiplayer games you play may not require such constant low-latency communications Elite does so that may explain why it disconnects more than your other games.

I do get an average of maybe 1 disconnect in a 3-5 session; sometimes none but I only played Solo so far and no Wing formation. I would imagine that would substantially increase both upstream and downstream TCP traffic from your host to the FD cloud-based virtual server(s) you're connected to. Those virtual servers--these companies typically rent virtual server instances from global cloud-providers like Amazon which are distributed and load-balanced amongst their different zones (regions) in different geographical locations and continents so during server-side content updates disconnects will spike as server workloads transition from instances being terminated to the new instances that span up with the updated image.

The other random element could also be automatic OS and software updates which happen nearly every day usually in the background. So when people make the statement "nothing changed on my end" is hardly ever true unless they went thru the extremes to block specific ports and completely disable these updates. Windows Defender or any 3rd party HIDS/HIPS software now baked into the OS is updated several times a day and can block any "suspicious" traffic based on the latest signature updates.

Give it a shot and open a ticket. I'm sure they will be able and willing to work with you to troubleshoot the issue and restore your experience to an acceptable level. With a ticket you will also have a case history to refer back to if the problem persists and those are being tracked by the FD Q/A team whereas they have limited resources to monitor forum posts.

Good luck!

If you can't access the support ticket pages, may I suggest you PM Brett C, or one of the other community FDev employees [not the forum mods, as they aren't employees] ? Explain you can't access those bits etc I'm sure they'll try to help.

Some routers handle p2p better than others. I used to have to wipe my router once a week to avoid issues. Good luck in figuring it out.
