I don't like any of the on-foot cosmetics.

I get it but also half of the Arx Store isn't locked behind a monthly subscription paywall either. A set of three suits is around $19 usd while a single set in SC can be $30-$40 + in some of the cases providef a $15 subscription to the subscriber store if you missed the month it was handed out to subscribers.

Also you potentially lose it when you die if the item recovery refuses to work.

Or you potentially dupe it by accident on death, which they will still ban you for in an alpha, which is very silly.
In SC almost all special armor/weapons eventually become lootable/discoverable in-game. But it is an entirely different animal anyway, since they are individual pieces of equipment rather than cosmetics. In Elite, there are three suits, no matter how you dress them. They are upgradable, sort of. The point is that most of the skins in this game are ridiculously cartoonish or flat out silly without really any options for players who want to take the aesthetic seriously. The other game was raised as a counter-example. You don't have to be a bear or a space kitty in SC. There are dozens of pieces of gear allowing hundreds of possible combinations. Some more serious options in this game would be nice.

Man, chill out. I never said SC is better than ED...I'd rather buy a fully cooked regular bread than a fancy unbaked one ;)
I just wanted to point out that there is a lot out there that FDev's artist could get inspiration from.
sc runs on cryengine that has been made (and remade) with eyecandy in mind. and was notoriously know for being a pain to run thanks to it (see "but can in run crysis" meme).
elite runs on engine made for something completely different, handling vastly different amount of load, and yet still perfectly playable on an old office ntb with onboard graphics and 8gb of ram.
also was nice of you to previously mention the 1 bil of funding sc has that elite really doesnt...
and yet you think elites artists are slacking?
ok.

Well, by the time the final version of SC will be ready and fully playable, I'm pretty sure Nvidia will have released the rtx90xx series @ up to 5Ghz with 1TB of VRAM...so maybe they did the right thing? :'-D

I was just pointing that there is plenty of good designs out there to take inspiration from.

As for the picture of the SC ship I posted, I could not resist: it just reminded me of the Normandy...from which SC clearly took inspiration (and I won't blame them).

What's the point of on foot cosmetics?
The game doesn't even have a descent 3 person camera to play and see the suit?

The whole thread is about the questionable design choices FDev had made with the on foot cosmetics.
if you would reread the thread you would notice that i too posted in here about how some of the new cosmetics appeal to me
It has nothing to do with the engine that’s running it or the relative budgets.
you wont make cobra look like cry
Some people seem to read the words Star Citizen and start frothing at the mouth.
i was literally reacting to a post with screens from sc asking why doesnt elite look the same.

some people do indeed seem to froth at the mouth... smh

Maybe it's all those 60's sci-fi books that I've read, but the vintage suits aren't bad - specially the vintage reflect.

Why don't the other packs have this balance of detail, design and colour?

No, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make aesthetically pleasing suits.
but thats not what i was responding to, never did i dispute that nor claim otherwise.
Some of them also appeal to me, that doesn’t mean there’s no reason to make more that appeal to other people’s tastes.
ok. good for you.
A completely rational response to someone showing examples of things they find aesthetically appealing
god forbid i asked a question i wanted an answer to.

any more reasonable responses or foam at mouth? (please dont)

Same what I suggested for ship livery: There should be more in-lore outfits and brand names. I'd like to see a coverall with a 'Brewer Corp' logo on the back, a flight suit with Zorgon Peterson branding for the Mandalay, some sleek (and less bulky) combat suits, etc.. Yes to armour but not that medieval style stuff which looks very bulky and a definitive no to garish colour schemes.
