Quick comparison of an airless metal-rich planet. Half-arsed pics, but shows even more starkly the difference between sunset region and noonday landscape:
Same planet.
Same planet.
Do you remember where that first shot is from? I'm back to Horizons for now and I really want to check it out while I can!Well, you all are entitled to your opinions. If Frontier is going to force me to always land on the sunset line so that I can get something that doesn't look out of a 2002 game, then both the lighting and tech is not up to par.
I really don't remember having this problem in Horizons. And to be honest, despite the stunning pictures people have posted, to me it really isn't all that better than the average rocky planet in Horizons.
In the end, @Old Duck , it's really a matter of experience. It's been shown that looking through posts alone won't give you a solid answer. Personally, when I play Horizons and switch to Odyssey, sure it looks meh/decent, but the colors really repeat too much, and sometimes I'll find a pretty decent world to land at.
But here's the thing. Does it offer anything more than Horizons? not to me. There's nothing new here that will counter-weigh on the LOD issues that personally make me heave and vomit.
Does nobody remember those awesome "geomes"? The diverse ice caps, the deep canyons, I mean I just don't see that stuff in the new planets. Everything is just washed out now.

(Not icy, but it's an example. Notice the deep canyons on the first one)
I feel like this makes it more of a personal preference problem than a bugs/broken dlc problem. But here's the thing. Does it offer anything more than Horizons? not to me.
Fair enough.I feel like this makes it more of a personal preference problem than a bugs/broken dlc problem.
We are talking about fdev, manage your expectations
It's always been like that. Shadows bring out detail, both in the game and in real life. When I was posting shots from Horizons back in the day they were nearly always from the "sunset line".Well, you all are entitled to your opinions. If Frontier is going to force me to always land on the sunset line so that I can get something that doesn't look out of a 2002 game, then both the lighting and tech is not up to par.
I think this is normal. I've gone to visit some of the nice looking planets when people share their locations and I've personally gotten views/screenshots that look almost as good as the best ones in this thread, and I've also seen real stinkers like the one you just posted on the same settings. Horizons is arguably not as pretty as Odyssey at it's best, but I think Horizons planets were more consistent at least. All my points aside- to all the people having success with the tech- is this normal? Is something wrong with my computer or is this how it is?

Horizons tech was the best. I firmly believe it. Odyssey isn't even coming close.
Those are really nice. But it's not just the angle of the sun. It really feels like different CMDRs are getting totally different graphical experiences based on screenshots I've seen. Maybe it's the settings, though if a CMDR uses low quality settings and then complains "This looks terrible", well then that's obviously on them. I think it's something else. For example, in your shots everything is very sharp and well-defined. It looks like a nice, high-def image. Also, notice how nice the shadow is coming off your character. I've seen many photos and videos where that shadow is blurry and disconnected, like a blurry Peter Pan shadow. I mean, looking at your photos, it almost feels like an entirely different game than some of the other photos and videos I've seen.
I'm curious - how is your framerate, and how is the rendering as you approach a planet? Are you getting the texture pop-in, geometry "dancing", and flickering shadows I've seen reported by others like Obsidian Ant?
FYI, if everyone was posting images like yours, I'd be much more likely to invest in Odyssey sooner vs later.
Looks like low vram\low graphics settings. If theres not enough of vram the game use lower quality meshes and textures. Is this even Odyssey? Looks like Horizons to me.All my points aside- to all the people having success with the tech- is this normal? Is something wrong with my computer or is this how it is?

Lol no. Odyssey is far far better and much more complex landscape. Looking great on high\ultra.Horizons tech was the best. I firmly believe it. Odyssey isn't even coming close.
How much vram you have? This might be an issue. Game really loves a lot of vram, 8gb is recommended. This is just my limited experience but I visited maybe 20 planets. Most looked low rez and broken. I visited one planet that looked like all the bells and whistles loaded and it kind of dropped my jaw (I actually took a nice screenshot of it, its in the Odyessy thread somewhere). I feel like for me, almost all of the time, the bells and whistles just arnt on.

Can you share a screenshot of your terrain settings? Or just summarize. Right above Terrain LOD is a terrain setting which has a new option, UltraForCapture. Try it out, you’ll notice some slow load-in maybe but it’s reasonable. It makes things look amazing. All my points aside- to all the people having success with the tech- is this normal?
