I hate supercruise

It's a game, it should be fun. And they should give a reason because I've invested money in their product and they want to sell me expansions in the future. Der. It's not a learning to play it thing that's bothering me. I do just fine in SC it is just boring as hell. I honestly don't understand the fight against it. If you want to fly manually do that. I find it boring so let me do other space man things while I'm traveling.
Well, you kind of knew what you were getting into, didn't you?
We all bought Elite: Dangerous to get Elite: Dangerous. You say SC is boring as hell as if everyone agrees. We don't.
If you want to play Elite: Dangerous without the Elite: Dangerous, what are you even doing here?

Sorry, missing the part where supercruise was the entire game... well, except the gameplay of course. like I've said in other threads, I don't mind the time that it takes, I just don't want to have to babysit.

The thing is, for an utter lot of people this is part of the fun.

On thenother hand, especially on the veeery remote station run, something like space anomalies, asteroid hails, Comets passimg, solar flare/ion storm things could spice up that part a bit.
One of the best ideas in this threads I've read so far.

I believe that's really all any of us really want. I argue for autopilot because I think it would be easiest to implement. However, I just want SC to be a little more exciting. People talked liked interdiction would be the be all end all, but I honestly, I rarely get interdicted. I agree with you. I either want to be able to occupy myself with other things or have what you said.

So you've been barrelling along for several minutes and you are going at your top speed of several thousand C and you see a comet or whatever, are you really going to want to spend a few minutes slowing down to a stop, say "ohh, how pretty" maybe scan it for a few thousand credits and then have to go through all the acceleration again when you resume your journey? All you really achieve is making a long trip even longer, of course if scanning or scooping one of these random objects could occasionally gain you hundreds of thousands of credits then it might be more tempting to stop.

Not entirely sure why you quoted me here. I just want SC to be more exciting. BTW, when do you get to several thousand x the speed of light in SC?

The fastest I've ever gotten, aside from the .22ly AC run is 940c; and that was a station 250,000 ls from the jump in point. Most are not near this far and you never get to much above 300c. I did get about 1800c on the run in from the AC jump point, but after 90 minutes of supercruise, I said, forget AC. I won't be back to this place.

I'm sorry, it is set in 3300 and we can't program a working autopilot? This is 1285 years in the future, we have colonies and orbital stations across the galaxy, we can terraform and travel thousands of times faster than speed of light but we can't have a simple autopilot to just make sure I keep pointed at my target? The space shuttle had an automatic landing approach. I flew in helicopters in the Navy and we had an automatic hover approach, stability augmentation systems, heading hold, power hold, altitude hold. We have UAV's that fly themselves. Just look at robotics. The technology exists today.

I sort of agree with you on SC, initially I hated it. I just couldn't understand why the game didn't let me do inter system jumps that a computer calculated. Then I realised it was a contrivance for allowing pirates/Bounty hunters to interdict people.

But I've got used to it now and kind of understand why there's no Autopilot, everything you mention from the shuttle to the helicopters to UAVs is done at relatively low speeds. In Elite we are talking speeds at mutiples of the speed of light. Also from a tech point of view in reality (not in game) the auto pilot equipment you mention is incredibly bespoke and every single ounce of processing power is designed to do one job, whereas a PC has to do everything from the graphics to the sounds to the Ai (Ai is often low down on priorities for games!). But primarily I think it's a gameplay/design choice to facilitate interdictions.

I am not against interdictions in the slightest. All I want is an autopilot to do the heading control and deceleration for me. It's not gamebreaking or OP. If an autopilot is designed to travel relatively slower than the average player then that would make them more susceptible to interdictions. I am 100% ok with that. I honestly just feel like SC is tedious. I love the people that say it will be a pirate's wet dream because I honestly have no intention of leaving my desk. Hell, I won't even tab out of the game. I would just love to use that time to wander the galaxy map or look at my stats. I really do not think that is unreasonable.

Yes, in a weird sort of way, it could actually increase immersion. Imagine it, you're on a long haul, kicking back reading a book (or surfing the web....being able to use your computer for something else while the game is running in a window without having to worry about the odd mouse movement veering you off course) when all of a sudden the ship's computer states "Attention! Unidentified ship approaching from X!"
