Good job Coloratura, you caught me in the middle of the edit. Not that it hard to do but, it doesn't happen as often lately it seems.
Sorry, I tend to reply as soon as I see the post.
To answer those questions, my ship has a 53 ly jump range. It's a DBX with almost everything stripped out save for a fuel scoop and scanners. I've been out here in the black for the past few days. Once I got to Colonia, zipped around for a while, I saw how close I was to Sag-A*, and thought this was my opportunity to do it. Once that was done, I got an itch to climb as high as I could, and see the lay of the land from the highest peak I could manage, so up I went, until I reached as high as the jump range on my DBX could handle. I'm sure there are higher places, but this one gave me a great view.
I've been debating traveling to Beagle Point, but I might instead head out to the "Eastern" part of the galaxy. Then again, I may just set course and head back to Colonia for a little while. I'm currently using a 3A fuel scoop, which is all I could find out where I was at the time, and it's more than a little bit of a headache. I figure I could go back to Colonia, grab an Asp X, outfit it sparingly like the DBX, but use a 5A fuel scoop, so I wouldn't even have to slow down for fuel stops, just jump, turn, scoop, jump. It would be more efficient (which I like), and it would reduce the possibility of heat damage should I get a little too close to the star (which is so very rare, but if it happens 45,000 ly away from a station, that's still a bad thing), while still having a nice jump range.
There's nothing out in the far "eastern" section of the galaxy. Nothing for tens of thousands of light years in all directions. That's what appeals to me, though one or two stations out that way would certainly lessen my nervousness when carrying the shipload of data I have on board. Something like an automated, unmanned outpost, that would let you dock, but its creators are unknown. Now that would be interesting.
