I love E:D But really?

…small ships are for new players or for giggles.
Perhaps, but particularly in the case of the Cobra Mk 5, they are also for outlier veterans of the game like me who only want one ship to fly and prefer a good small multirole that can really hold its own in combat against larger vessels. And who also loves Delacy ships and has a soft spot and nostalgia for the original Cobra Mk 3.

Yeah, I'd kind of count that in the "for giggles" section. You're not using it because it's the best at anything, you're using it because it's fun. I use my Courier for the same reason (even though it's demonstrably not the FE2 version, but it bears the name at least).

They are now selling the Cobra MK 5 (Standard) for 10738 ARX.... even though the Corsair is still on the real cash only roster?
Is this how it's going to be from now on?
You talk as if those ships will forever be available only using real-world money (which, as far as I know, is the case for many/most ships in that other game).

That's not what's happening here, obviously. If you don't want to pay for the new ships you don't have to; you simply need to wait a few months and you'll get them without having to pay ARX for them. For those who want to experience the ships early, they have the option.

If this helps them support and develop the game further for years to come, I'm all for it. Considering all possible monetization tactics, this one is by far one of the tamest and most customer-friendly ones that I can think of (that still gives them some actual revenue). It could be much, much worse (in the same way as that other game).

I'm unconvinced that the new ships are significantly better.

Hmmm ok. Starts off promising.

I've bought a T8 because it's a great hauler for a medium pad

lol.

The fact that they are creating cash ships that are statswide way and ahead of prior ships to the point of basically including their existence is kind of sad.

At least do something to give the earlier ships at least presence of relevance.

The T7 design had a mistake where it was 50cm too tall for the medium pads in the Beta and clipped through the hangar roof. so they just deleted its ability to land on M pads instead of spending a few man hours to reduce its height.

But now suddenly they have a T8 that CAN land on M pads and strangely has better everything than a Large ship.

If ships don’t have a niche, why bother existing?
T8 has better everything than a large ship? Of course it doesn't.

(BTW I bought my T8 with credits).

Quite true. But then, and I don’t want to be Commander Obvious here, fun is the purpose of a game after all. 🙂
I suppose pay to have fun doesn't really have the same ring to it if you're making a complaint.

I may be newer to the franchise than some- coming along in the Elite Plus days on the Amiga, but I completely get why people want this ship. I'd like them to put it in the game too- but I know there's a brick wall out back of the Frontier offices to hear me ask about that.

If the Cobra mkV gave you a % boost in powerplay merits or something similar I'd see the argument but there's no hint of anything like that.

Nope. The ship will be available via in-game credits like the others.

Question is when.

The plans are absolutely on display, but you have to go down to the cellar, with a torch, to find them on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying 'Beware of the Leopard'.

I don't understand why the Elite DLCs are so much more expensive than the much more comprehensive DLC packs for FDEV's other range of games. Have they just decided / discovered that ED players will pay anything for cosmetics (most of which the player never actually sees when playing)?

Cue all the "buy stuffz to support the game" apologists... ;)

I haven't used any of the new ships. I think they all lack personality. So I still spen most of my time in my Keelback, and am in no way impacted by the new ships.

Why didn’t you wait until the ships are available for credit
Why should I?
or did you feel there would be some advantage to owning them on release?
Yep, I get to fly new ships on day one of release, which has the advantage I don't have to wait for an eventual 'for credits' release.
And, naturally, in buying them, it is certain that a few will complain about P2W or something, because they elect to not spend money for whatever reason...

Afterthought: I find it curious that FD waited quite so long to raise revenue by selling new ships that really don't affect whatever 'balance' might be in any meaningful way. The fact that they also elected to make them virtually 'pocket money' price is also odd, but, as I don't claim to be an AAA developer, or financial mastermind, what do I know?
I think they should offer actual OP ships for Arx, but then, I've never given a flying fig about balance...

It really isn't unless you can do what others haven't been able to do and explain what you are winning.

O7
P2W is kind of a broad church. having better ships locked behind ARX is P2W imo. whether you feel it breaks the game or it matters or not is by the by. personally I think it is P2W but I don't think it's obnoxious P2W.

i would say it's the same thing as star citizen... but just no where near as extreme.

paid ship has objective improvements over other ships earnable in game
paid ship comes with life time insurance
paid ship will be earnable in game at some point in the future

if people want to argue elite isn't P2W and neither is SC I would disagree but at least it's consistent.

but those who love slamming SC for P2W but suggesting elite isn't i find hard to understand tbh

I don't play elite as a PvP game so it's no skin off my nose but when players do want to directly compete with another then one having access to different toys or with less of a punishment if they lose. how can that not be P2W?

I miss the days when P2W actually meant something. Now it's just "if you have to buy something it's P2W".

Also, I don't think anyone should ever compare anything to what's gone on at SC. That's not even "Pay to play". It's not even out yet.

It's a legitimate question to ask why the Cobra MKV isn't out of early access yet. But we can just ask it without hyperbole.
