Newcomer / Intro I made an easy guide about attacking Titans!

Do you have one so us dummies can tell when to run and when to fight . Types of thargoid pic? I'm not sure it could be done with crayons but who knows? LOL

I might not be able to do a crayon drawing for that in particular, but I can share my sort of "mental flow chart" to make that decision myself.

1- Am I trying to get somewhere to do something?
  • 1 Yes: Don't fight. I have places to be.
  • 1 No: next
2- Am I in a ship that can fight?
  • 2 No: Unless I can escape, guess I'll die.
  • 2 Yes: next
3- Do I think I can win against the thing that pulled me?
  • 3 No: Escape
  • 3 Yes: next
4- Will fighting this benefit my goals or be fun?
  • 4 Yes: Fight.
  • 4 No: Escape.

Usually, I make it as far as step 1 because I'm almost always trying to accomplish something.
Also, having a Xeno Scanner is critical to making this choice as easy as possible. If you don't have one: Why are you in Thargoid space as a newbie? (vets don't "need" a scanner, but also this isn't advice for vets)
Here's a rundown of the Thargoids, how to tell them apart, and whether I believe a newbie should engage:
  • Lots of red triangles on radar, Scout (hockey pucks): Easy to beat, generally not worth the time though.
  • Big circle on radar, image looks like a pinwheel of knives and launched a missile off the rip, Glaive: Annoying af to fight but generally easy to beat. Don't usually fight, escape with ECM.
  • Big circle on radar, looks like a shuttlecock, you hear clicking, and it launched a missile off the rip, Scythe: Less annoying than Glaive, but also less threatening. They just want your doods in your hold. Don't usually fight, escape with ECM.
  • Big circle on radar, looks like a flower/basic interceptor, has 4 squares below its health bar, Cyclops: Easy to fight, easier to outrun and escape from. Usually in more of a hurry than a fight would allow.
  • Big circle on radar, looks like a flower/basic interceptor, has 5 squares below its health bar, Basilisk: Not at all easy to fight, definitely have better places to be and sometimes have to be a bit more clever about escaping from.
  • Big circle on radar, looks like a thorny flower/spiky interceptor, has 6 squares below its health bar, Medusa: Almost never encounter this way, but it's as easy to escape from as the Cyclops and more time consuming than a Basilisk so I'm out and on to my destination.
  • Big circle on radar, looks like the angriest pinwheel you've ever seen, has 8 squares below its health bar, Hydra: Laugh at my luck, take a pic for posterity, nope tf out. It's as fast as a Cyclops/Medusa but if you're not outrunning 450 m/s then I HOPE you have good hull or enough for a rebuy.

This is a big help. For now I'm running cold and fast, got places to be. LOL. Fighting in wings or private groups also sounds like a good idea. The scouts ( hockey pucks ) at ground settlement are great practice for pip and weapons control.
