I need $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$s

So if exobiology is good how do I get on a carrier that's going out deep in space and then what about the return trip ? I suppose 2nd option is to get some extra LYs travel on the neutron star path, but it does damage the ship a little. then you have to get home. CC
There is the Fleet Carrier's Owners Club somewhere on Discord and Reddit, I believe, where CMDRs organize carrier trips. You could go there. Carrier trips also count for the 5k trip for Professor Palin. If you take a carrier somewhere to explore you still need to travel away a bit, as most of the carrier trips will probably have some more or less popular destination.

If you want to do a trip by yourself, go in a direction that is not heavily traveled, preferrably somewhat outside and away from the galactic plane. You could take a look at EDAstro to get a feel for where to go. In general, the straight routes to Colonia, SagA* and the nebulas surrounding the bubble are well traveled.

I've recently started playing and i built up money pretty quickly by just trading jumping between two systems, one with a refinery economy, the other a high tech economy. Taking silver in the one direction, then performance enhancers in the other is a quick way to get onto a rapid growth curve. Do a few runs until you can afford a bigger ship (and still have money left for a full silver load), upgrade to a bigger ship, repeat. I used hauler -> type6 -> type7 -> type9. By type-9 you can carry about 650-700 and make about 20million per loop. With systems one jump apart and stations reasonably close to the primary star, its about 5 mins per iteration and with a landing and supercruise assist module its pretty effortless
You survived your trial by Type-X. Respect to you sir, I found them little more than FTL coffins in my blundering pilot hands :)

Well Ive been playing a while but I feel I'm only scratching the surface sometimes. There's so many ficids to this game. The Grind can become a grind .. sometimes I realise I've learnt heaps and discovered so much other times the game makes me realise there's still so much to discover. CC
The grind is because people fixate about 1 aspect of this game , there are many. I only have just over 6500hrs in game ( yeah I know rookie numbers) . When I get bored I do other stuff apart from mining never really liked it. Inra bases , the mega ships (that we have found) engineers , trading exploration , having fun in combat with the most ridiculous builds even cqc . BGS and Powerplay. Then go back . I ground out the last 1/4 of my combat elite ( no thargoids have been harmed) because I was soooo close , most have grinded at one point "just to get finished" . But we put that on ourselves then say "man I'm glad that's over " and go off to do other stuff . This isn't like many games which are finished in 35 hrs etc there is always something else to do

It doesn't have to be deep space, 1KLy from Sol & (off the well beaten paths) you'll start hitting new discos.
If you really wish to go deep space I can prep my FC (load tritium) & happily transport you to sectors unknown.
You have a FC ... mate I'm in awe .. How do you manage the up keep its huge ?:);)(y)

If you do neutron jumping carry an AFMU module & repair your FSD every so often. I usually repair it once it gets down to 85%.

If you want to find carriers offering passage try the fleet Carrier Owners Discord (I've no direct experience, I have my own carrier).

As Joe Cool says, you don't need to go all that far out, just need to find places that others have not already first footed.
Another FC owner .. in awe (y)

  1. Like others have said, you don't have to go far outside the bubble to find undiscovered bios. About 2000LY
  2. You don't need a fleet carrier yourself, you can use the DSSA.
  3. Take a look at the Canonn Challenge. It will take you all around the galaxy discovering lots of strange stuff in nebulae.
  4. Learn about Jumponium.
  5. Step out into the black one in a while. Enjoy the peace and quiet.
  6. Once you have got a FC, pimped up your ride a bit, you can collect billions. The only problem is what to buy. I have 33 ships, every type of module, so just waiting for FDev to add the intergalactic hyperjump, costing 30 billion. :D

OK I get it ... and I got along way to go. Thanks for the encouragement commanders. :)

It is !!!! or that's just showing off I've discovered all those I was lucky to get 14,000 although I did hit a 20mil prob because I first discovered it I guess? But I agree that is a magnificent haul Commander. (y)
Not showing off. Just proving a point. I know others that have done much better.
Can get a bit tedious sometime, but is a relaxing exercise after a hard day at work.
Problem is what to spend it on.

Similar to a ship - only buy it until you have the moneys for setup and maintenance (or rebuys in case of ships). The game isn't going to go anywhere for the next few years at least, so there's enough time.
And - the more money you have, the more you can earn. Trading in a Type-6 with a 50kCr./ton span will get you something like 2 MCr. per round in a Type-6 with the risk of losing your ship every few rounds to pirates (NPCs even in solo), but 32 MCr. in a Cutter with minimum risk even from players (and the NPC prirates become an additional source of income). And once you have the carrier, you have the chance of using it to make even more money - park it in a mining system and offer a decent price for mined minerals, then hop over to a high sell system and sell the stuff for a good (local) price. Doesn't always work and requires some initial investment, but is easy work.

I would agree with @Ashnak. Do not buy a FC until you can afford a basic FC AND the modules you want AND a couple of month's upkeep. After a while you will be amassing so many credits that you will wonder what all the worry was. Just don't get the FC until you have that safety net for maintenance. Follow the money making advise given above and you will have years of maintenance accrued. In the meantime use other people's FC. They will be more than willing to help you out. DSSA has fleet carriers in every region of the galaxy that are static. Other commanders run regular trips to Colonia and back.

Even if you do have maintenance costs covered, the other PITA is Tritium. Plenty in the bubble, not so much in Colonia and no stations selling it in the black. You can mine it, but it takes about an hour or two to mine enough for one jump. The more you have on board (in the hold rather than the tank), the more it costs to do each jump.

FCs do have their uses, but the wow factor wears off pretty quickly after a couple of jumps and visiting the half dozen room on this massive ship. You don't NEED a FC, but they are nice to have.

There is some great advice in this thread. Personally I would recommend doing a little bit of everything, to see what you like, and to do different things. I believe I have been playing elite for 3 years next month. I made my money the following ways:
Trading, laser mining, stacking pirate massacre missions, robigo passenger runs to sirius atmospherics, exploration with my ship(s), Thargoid war efforts (no interceptor fights), and CG's.

Things I still have not tried:
Core Mining
Sub Surface Mining
Thargoid Interceptor fighting
Odyssey exploration

Of all the above the best $$$ for the time spent for me was: CG's, laser mining, stacking pirate massacre missions, and robigo passenger missions. But it all depends on the missions available or the commodity prices at the time you are playing.

The wildcard in all of this is the CG's. Fdev once in a great while (like once or twice per year) will have a crazy CG that could net you billions. There were a couple of CG's over the past few years, one for guardian artifacts and the other for data. Between the two I walked away with between 4-5 billion. So keep an eye on the current CG's (if available) and the potential to make some serious money from them.

There is a forum dedicated to the CG's. (community goals)

Good Luck commander

Short update: If you have a ship with range (or can find some friendly carrier owner to help you out), you can currently make 96kCr./ton with shipping Harma Silver Sea Rum from Gabriel Enterprise in Harma to the Musashi (Megaship in Xi Wangda around A4). 110 ly distance, Rum is currently supposed to be at an allocation of 60 tons. If you want to keep the supply up, try to do some nice things for Harma Silver Cartel in return. Don't know if bounties work (they're an Anarchy, after all), but missions - or delivering high demand items like Resonating Separators should definitely help.
