I paid for a Space Sim, not a buggy mess with immersion killing pop up menus.

obviously it's extremely important that the useless empty planets be geologically accurate.

figuring out a means of incorporating 400 billion systems into interesting and engaging gameplay is a waste of time when these important and pressing matters need to be worked on.

I for one am glad they're prioritizing updating the look of assets that they weren't making any real use of and still aren't in lieu of working on npc ai, economy balance, additional gameplay roles, powerplay, more things to spend credits/materials/crafting on, and community driven content to fill the void between the narrative posts.
This is a sim. If you dont like realism, play starwars or something idk Blaster chezz_V1.png

Why would they bother with people like Dr Kay, when a random dude on the internet can explain them how it works.
It's the problem with not understanding a specific field. You need at least some understanding to understand you know very little. Just like everyone became a virologist the last year everyone who ever played a computer game is an expert on everything related to it.

YouTube University. Insultingly simple for simple minds.
Actually, during my time at university, I needed a quick read-up on a subject, so I asked one of my professors. He answered: "Youtube", and when I looked surprised he said: "Don't worry, we all do that". I've even been able to recognize Hank's Crash Course in other professors Power Point. And, while we are at it, Wikipedia is about as reliable as Encyclopedia Brittanica.

Youtube contains endless piles of crap, but also huge amounts of excellent informative videos. The art is picking the right ones, but once you learn that, the information is far from simple. Yesterday I watched videos about the math behind the emergence of turbulence in laminar flows, and after that I watched Veritasiums bet with another physicist about traveling faster than the wind getting settled once and for all. I can highly recommend that one:

Absolutely, nothing is just black/white.

I for instance love Ben Eater's channel, a little treat for hardcore nerds :)

The trick is to learn how to distinguish and further investigate claims and other things made available there.

I think having 6 + years as a Freelance animator with experience in 3d modeling, randomized grunge texturing, randomly generated meshes, etc. does give me some credibility here. This is a model I made, pretty p o g g e r s if I say so myself (nvm, there are upload limits)

yea, all that simulated sound your suit and ship produce are very realistic.

so is all of the bloodless and hole-less bodies you drop while doing diplomacy on the surface

so is the lack of radiation ....but oddly heat is a huge problem

So is how y dwarfs that have a temp of 0C shine purple light

So is all of the engineer effects

So is how black holes are represented

So is how holo-me's work

So is how galnet operates yet somehow we can't transmit data

So is the economy

So is the anaconda (and to a lesser extent, how other large ships work and how much damage smaller things can do to larger things)

Etc etc. All very realistic things that in no way have been implemented in a way that ignores realism when it's more convenient to.

This game isn't a realistic sim except in the tiny places it wants to be and those places aren't even important to the gameplay that exists in it.

I just leave a Google search suggestion for you here:

"Dunning-Kruger"
It's a bit painful isn't it? When you unironically think you can give physicists advice when modeling planets because you are a freelance animator.

When I got my PhD I had a much better understanding of just how little I understood in a wider sense of my field. Usually when I talk to a colleague I have to confess I don't know enough about the specific methodology or analytical approach to give serious feedback.

And then you're having a beer at some BBQ and some random bloke with zero background goes:"oi it's simple mate, you just [insert cringe]!". :)

The more I learned the more I became aware of things I don't know :)

Also, I have been in the valley of dispare for ages. Its called life, and me not being able to get my damn photorealism
Yeah well, life's unfair.
I know, been there to.

Odyssey have lots of issue. Pop up are silly, planet gen is bad, and performances to. But I also know it can't be solved by a random dude on the internet. And neither it can be solved "easily".

And I don't need a PhD to know that a physicist knows much more stuff than I do in her field.

I must've missed the post where OP indicated ever even knowing who Ross is.

In addition, I'd be curious to understand why a digital animator could not provide someone with a phd in physics with any advice on how to design a videogame. What caused you to conclude that's somehow strange or insulting?

Should people without phds just never assume to advise those with phds on anything?

I remember the day I picked up a guitar. At the end of it I thought:"well, I learned four chords in a day! How many more can there be? If I keep it up I'll probably have learned all there is to know about music in a month!"

I was wrong.
I broke my pinky finger when i tried to play guitar as a kid, no joke. Since then I'll let the hard things do the professionals :)

OP still thinks we talk about Bob Ross, I think.
