I really hope they have alot of content ready for the new year.

The content of Elite is reliant on your own personal experiences within the game. It's your own story. There are several Novels about Elite's fictional universe to help you fill in the gaps. This is not Wing Commander.

There is no way ill be able to actually enjoy the game for any longer than a month from now. Only way to really progress is trading.... whats hilarious is the traders still complain after they rake in a steady 1mil~ per hour.

Ive done all the playstyles enough to know that trading is the only way to go if you want something expensive. Its super boring and easymode, but the steady income coupled with the lack of risk (if you are not a noob and can dock without taking the whole station out) makes it better than anything in Elite right now. I bet the majority of Elite players are strictly trading and that makes me a bit irritated. I only guess because FDev seem to be giving more attention to trading in general considering the recent fixes since release. And if that wasnt the case, instead of the backwards trading fix we couldve maybe been given a Faction Fix.... anyways, thats all conspiracy.

Want to explore? Well, once youve seen one Ice planet youve seen them all. And it gets rather boring after you pass 500,000Ls~ in Super Cruise.

Want to be a miner? I guess... its just as boring and easy as trading. And if they ever bring in drones for scooping this will probably be the FOTM mega cash play style until something about it is nerfd.

Conflict Zones are a joke. A very bad one. 3k per kill no matter the ship? LOL there are ships that sustain way over 3k+ in hull repair simply jumping to the location.

Want to be a hunter? Sure, just be careful of the enemies faction even if they are wanted. There are assassination missions but they are not always available and its most likely an Anaconda fitted exactly like the one you killed a day before. Extraction sites used to be the place to go for bounty hunting... but now with the faction problems and especially the police behavior, it aint that great (same with NAV points and belts). Only other option is USSs, but you dont always get enemies. You either get some scoopables which you probably wont pick up, a bunch of clean NPCs, and then lastly some wanted people. Factor in Super Cruising around and especially the time it takes get to a USS without overshooting... you might as well be trading if money is what you are wanting.

Want to be a Pirate? You could be. Alot of scooping involved and you most likely wont get all the loot in time before it hits 0% and explodes. Also unless you want to lose access to 1/3rd of civilized space you are only going to be pirating Independent or Anarchic space. Ive only done it in anarchic space because i dont want to be a "bad guy" for when they bring in Wingmen since your actions do give a reputation and i dont want to be stuck hiring criminals who could spazz out whenever i have a hold full of good loot. I dont really want a bounty on me period if its avoidable.

Lack of content. Dont tell me i "dont get it" either because everyone whose played before Gamma is thinking it too.
/rant?

ED allows each gamer to define progression for themselves.

So what content would you add to the game that wouldn't imbalance what's here or make things happen so quickly that people who don't play obsessively could keep up with? For all the criticism there's few ideas that aren't either on the books for eventual inclusion or they're things that other people would find just as boring and tedious. I don't know what you're looking for in the game, to be honest. Would tractor beams or drones suddenly make mining fun for you? Would more steps in the exploration system make it more fun to do 500 times? Combat....shoot at stuff. Seriously? What the hell else would you be doing in combat?

First of all, there's tons of content that should already be out. Just go take a brief tour of the archived design discussion.
One small, relevant example; "Auto miners - potentially not for release one: these are large deployed devices that can mine a location over time, allowing the player to collect them at a later date". This was located at the end of the mining post, and out of everything written in the post this is the only feature that's noted as potentially not being present at launch. Every other feature on the list is either completely absent, or it exists as an empty shell.

I'm not a game developer. It's not my job to make Frontiers game fun. I've as much obligation to provide suggestions, as Frontier does to drive me to work. I can tell them what's not enjoyable, but the rest is up to the professionals (them). With that in mind, I can tell you that exploration is not fun. I can tell you that it currently consists of pointing yourself at an object for 30 seconds. If that seems fun, involving, or complex to you then I'd suggest you pick up Farmvile.

Mining, exploration and trading currently sit at the core of what there is to do in Elite. Each one of them currently consist of 3 or 4 actions.

As for combat, I was speaking more of combat as a profession in the game as opposed to something that you do. Yes, regardless of whether or not you're a pirate or not combat will always consist of shooting stuff. The problem is, the combat professions all play the same. People always say "oh well, you can be a lawman, or a pirate, or a mercenary", but other than impacting what factions (if any) will be hostile towards you, none of those options actually change the way you'll play the game. At best you may have to make some outfitting compromises. In the end you're just shooting stuff. You're not pirating, or bounty hunting, you're just shooting stuff. Making a distinction between the combat professions is like making a distinction between driving in the center lane or driving in the left lane. At the end of the day you're still just driving.

You talk of breaking the balance in the game, but as of right now there's no game to break. There are 5 completely 2 dimensional professions. Remember exploring in Mass Effect 1? You'd have to manage your fuel and fly up to worlds and then take part in a little scanning mini-game. It was gimmicky and boring yet it was still a better system than the one present in Elite. I find that utterly hilarious.

Are you having fun the in the game?
Great, I'm not disputing that. I'm having fun too.
Is the game lacking content?
This isn't a very subjective question. The game doesn't even take up half as much hard-drive space as I expected it to.

"I bought Formula One and now I want other cars plus I want to go maximum speed in a nanosecond because I am bored easily"

People complaining about lack of content have no clue what ED is about, what things there are there to be discovered. Bored? Quit your job as trader/miner/.. and explore. No, not every icy planet is the same and not every system is the same.

If I want to spend all my time looking at pretty stars I can go play Space Engine. No, every icy planet doesn't look the same and not every system is the same. They don't have to be identical to be dull. They're all spherical objects floating in space. I can just as well look at pictures of people exploring in Elite and get the same experience. Every tree doesn't look the same, but I doubt you'd spend days walking through a tree simulator.

Nobody is asking for easymode, so for starters lets stop answering threads like this with "Oh you want more cars and nanosecond accelleration in your F1 car, booo hiss" since it is nonsensical and dismissive.

I'd say that a really big expansion on the mission system would be one way of adding depth to the game. Missions that are exclusive to faction types / alliances / governments and not just in the "oh well here is a unique fetch quest, instead of non-lethal weapons you get to fetch SLAVES", but actually expanding on the mission types. Investigate derelicts, chase down someone that is an actual npc with routines, who docks and undocks and you get to pick up rumors about where they'll be doing something and stake out the place etc. waiting for the right random-spawn USS isn't chasing someone down, it is waiting for it to randomly spawn while you check forums while in SC on the slow setting to speed up checking USS. Stuff like that.

Mining could be VASTLY expanded upon in several ways. Make NPC mining operations you could partake in as a miner or a hauler or a security guard. Add a bunch of text strings with comms chatter and make it feel like something is actually going on. Make it possible to cooperate as players when mining. Add different types of mining lasers for different kinds of belts etc. Make building your dream mining ship more than just a refinery and the one mining laser.

Add a variety of combat missions... protection detail, intercept the courier before they reach base X etc. in general stuff-that-doesn't-consist-of-waiting-for-the-right-uss-to-spawn would be awesome, stuff that feels like it is part of the universe and not just randominstance.

Make ship modding less of a linear path and more of a lore-friendly interesting choice thing. Besides weapons everything is basically a straight line alphabetical upgrade. No lore added to the stuff, no like.. nothing, just letters. Why not have different manufacturers of modules with different priorities, One brand focuses on lightweight things while another brand focuses on raw power, each have different tiers of stuff etc.

there are tons of ways to actually use the framework we have to add depth, but as it stands the game doesn't have depth.

1. Get explorable plants in ASAP. Even if you don't want to run around on foot, give us different flight mechanics within the atmosphere of planets, have us hunting down people on watercraft, aircraft, on foot, etc. And you can take them on in any of those same things, or never leave your trusty spacecraft at all. As someone who values exploration above anything else in video games, exploration right now is borderline pointless. Yes, there the occasional cool sight, but I want to SEE what each of these planets really looks like up close, I want to see the wildlife and the crazy terrains and the futuristic cities. I want to get out of my ship and explore the land. Hell, I want to be able to get out of my ship, PERIOD. I'm a commander, not a sentient space ship.

2. We have the live data feed giving us the story every day, have different factions give out different missions based on that content. Maybe faction X wants you to get together with a bunch of other mercenaries (NPCs, players, either one) and take down a capitol ship that's visiting a certain sector. Give us actual content based on these events, and try to make it available to people outside of the relevant systems as well.

3. Let me hire mercenaries of my own. I want wingmen. Since I can't play with my ' friends in open play, allow me some NPC help. Some big space battles would be much appreciated.

4. Fix the online play. Good lord, who launches a "release" product that's online-only WITHOUT A PROPER ONLINE INFRASTRUCTURE? This one's just embarrassing. I can't even play with my friends unless it's a private game. This is inexcusable on every level. I play games with my friends, this game promised I could do that, it never said that I'd have to sacrifice playing with literally anyone else to do so.

5. Have stuff happen. USSs are just random events that you can choose to ignore. Why do I never see stations under siege, or destroyed completely? Will I ever see a nuclear bomb going off on a planet's surface? Will I find a station where all the feds are crooked because they were overthrown internally by pirates, trying to charge fees? Why does the universe not interact with me in any way except to shoot me, scan me or fine me? Oh, and to give me a mission now and again.

6. As you get further from the starter system, make the AI *way* more deadly. The AI in the game right now is a joke. There's no sense of progression because you can literally take down the biggest and baddest ship you can find with the starter ship as long as you can keep the AI from lining up a super obvious shot with you. If I'm in a Sidewinder, I should be crapping my pants anytime someone approaches me, but I wasn't, I was totally cocky and it was completely justified because I was basically invincible, and I'm not even a good pilot! Another player would likely annihilate me, BUT I DON'T SEE THEM BECAUSE I CAN'T PLAY WITH ANYONE BECAUSE THE MULTIPLAYER IS BUSTED IF YOU WANT TO PLAY WITH FRIENDS.

7. Hire me as a private eye! A simple different take on the assassination missions, you hunt someone down and watch their activity from a distance, focusing on stealth and silent running. It would focus on spatial awareness (not being spotted by ANYONE, not just the target), which would be fun when there's lots of asteroids around.

8. Races! Nice, easy content, plenty of fun.

9. Tournaments! Who care who's fastest? Who's the most DEADLY? This could be PvP or PvE, either way, two people in a massive arena surrounded by a massive crowd of rowdy space rednecks! A fight to the death with big prizes at the end. Could include functional in-game tournament ladder systems. This would be an excellent way to get players to fight each other, and even non-PvP players to get some combat practice in against AI. For folks too scared to put their ships on the line, you could have a destruction-derby style event with rented ships covered by the buy-in cost. Of course, those willing to bet their own property will win much bigger prizes. (After all, everyone except the winner is exploded.) Also, make it illegal in certain systems, with police raids!

10. Space-towing and refueling! Allow me to use a laser-lasso (why not?!) to grab a poor ship who is out of fuel and tow them back to a nearby station for a hefty fee. Alternatively, allow me to take a ship loaded to bear with tons and tons of fuel to refill ships stranded in space for an even bigger fee. This could be both NPCs and players, with players getting their previous emergency beacons back. A better life support system will buy them more time for a refueling ship to arrive, and of course the fuel will be at an extreme premium, but cheaper than dying! NPCs could also stop by to save you, but there are 0 guarantees, no one at all could show up! You could even have the emergency beacon be an upgrade-able item, with longer range, and you could broadcast how much you're willing to pay (if more than the default price) to really entice people to come get you.

11. Have missions where I go explore abandoned stations, even still inside my ship, just flying around megastructures (I'm thinking bigger than the current ones, like they used to build them much bigger but they were unsafe compared to today's more compact stations.) in the darkness, with nothing but my ship's light in the total blackness, with maybe the occasional convenient spooky flickering light. There could be valuable weapons or intact ships in there, after all.

12. Salvage! Not just scooping up cargo from other ships, but the ship itself after it has exploded! Scrap is scrap! Space junkers are the best.

13. Put a little money into some future radio stations! Play future-style music, have talk shows that deal with the current goings-on in the world, recorded ahead of time but presented "live." Allow us to add our own music (properly, in-game.) -- sure, it's easy to do this outside of the game, but the immmerrrsion!

14. Space games! People talk about immersion, but there's nothing immersive about a universe where no one's having any fun (the world itself, I mean) -- why haven't people set up giant bowling pins that you launch asteroids at? No shooting ranges? If I'm in supercruise for 20 minutes when something is 500,000Ls away because the universe hates my guts, let me pop up a simple little game-inside-a-game. Hell, have a super cheesy in-game "app store" where you use CREDITS (Not real money!) to buy mini-games to play during downtime. That's what I'd have in my future ship, and don't you tell me otherwise! Life isn't just work work work kill kill kill!

15. Truck balls, but for space ships. Let the universe know exactly what kind of space trash you are!

No, OP does not speak for me either although I've only played since PBeta. Still having lots of fun making MY story in space.

Do tell us what your story is. Not the one you made up in your head, but the story you carved out in this universe, reflected within the universe. What have you done that matters?

The scientists say that there are 2 kinds of babies born in the world. 1) plays with the toy for a while till he/she is intimate with it then lets it go = Smart Baby. 2) plays with the same toy till he/she start teething... and beyond .. with the same sparkle in his/her eyes.. = Not so smart baby. If you can grind for days/months/ eventually years... which one of the two babies are you? :D

When are people going to release the aim of the game is not to get the biggest most expensive ship? If that's all the game means to you then i feel sorry for you.

What have I done that matters to the universe? Absolutely nothing. In fact I have done more in RL to affect the state of things than I have, or even want to, in the game. But just like everyone else I have my personal story and surprise surprise it is THAT that you are playing out in ED. You are nothing special in the game universe, just some guy with a space ship.

Aaaaand which scientists say this? Names please and links would be good. Pft, it's like saying 'Scientists agree, God is real!'

Oh, your personal story. The one you made up in your head. "I shot some guys, traded some things, mined some things. I ran away from this guy before dying."

Thrilling, unique stuff. Oh, wait. It's the same thing everyone does because that's all there is to do. The most unique thing you can do in this game is go to star systems no one else has been to, and even then, you can't... do anything there. You can't explore the planets. You can't change anything. You can't be what you want to be, no matter how rich and powerful you become.

I mean, if the only reason you're playing is for your "personal story" then literally any open world game in existence will give you that same feeling, so what makes ED special?

What makes ED special? Never really thought about it that way. I like it. That's about it really. Yes I have played other open world games and ones that actually allow you to role play and to play out your 'personal' story face to face with others. I like them too. Why are you being so aggressive?

This isn't an issue about people enjoying, or not enjoying the game. Please stop making it about that.

I'm having fun playing the game. The game lacks content. That guy over there is not having fun playing the game. The game lacks content. That guy's an oldie so he thinks the game is perfect as it is. The game lacks content.

See how I didn't confuse the subject matter there?

Yes, the game currently lacks content. It is an empty house waiting for things to be put in it. Here, an xmas vid for you all. http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite_Dangerous_Wiki?file=The_Future_of_Elite_Dangerous

<---stopped reading there. If you dont enjoy it, that is your personal preference. Actually i enjoy the opportunity to accumulate huge wealth to be able to buy me every ship i want to AFTERWARDS try out all the other gamestyles.

This all seems highly subjective, some of the things that people complain about I quite enjoy. Personally I think if players had too much control over the way the universe ends up it would be a big steaming pile off a mess. Or to be aprapo a very very large space wreck.

If you don't enjoy the game, Im sorry to hear that, many of us do. I would like a lot more variation in Bounties and Hunt missions. Come on, only hunt missions with Pythons? thats just...Weird.

Too much space too little to do.

But but but a mega content patch is on the way for sure, next patch is always best patch.

and don´t forget DAT EXPANSION coming Dec 2015 it will sock your knocks off

10/10 for best promises, would buy again

I'm in no hurry to consume everything and am enjoying the journey at my own pace. The story will unfold and the game will grow. In a couple of years I still wsnt to be having fun and instagratification will not deliver that.
