I remember when ...

Oh, just remembered another in-game surprise oldie, accidentally hitting the Eject All Cargo button whilst in super cruise, I did that with a full load of Gold back when it was the high paying commodity ... Oh how I laughed

... there were no orbit lines or ADS and the only way you could discover planetary bodies in a system was to fly around and use parallax movement of closer objects against the skybox taking note of the small movements and go and investigate the moving dot
This sounds like my kind of game! Seriously, I wish I could turn off the canopy HUD that draws circles over all the planets and other things regardless whether or not I have even performed a honk. It makes a mess of my beautiful skybox. I know I can turn off all HUD elements with ctrl-alt-G, but I still would like to keep my interior holographic panels (radar, etc).

In Sol, my sky is a flashing mess of HUD elements competing with each other for focus. I don't like it. :(

Turning off orbit lines is still an option.

I did that on day one. I still want to turn off ALL canopy HUD elements, except the one thing I'm targeting. Oh, and those stupid supercruise lines as well. There isn't a special key combo for this, is there? Something similar to ctrl-alt-G but leaves my internal panels active.

I remember a strange combination of not having an old scanner (so no honk) and having a scavenging mission in a new system. I really had to use my skills (and rapidly make up new ones) to map the system and find the moon I had to land on (as well as fight off an NPC in my Keelback). It was cool using the parallax method and guessing where the next planet was.

I‘m pretty sure I’ve seen a mod that turns all of these off for a true ‘hard mode,’ though as I remember it’s messing around in game files. Something I’m not particularly fond of.

‘Hard mode’

I wish one could turn off all except the exclusion zones...
