I want a PP warfront

what's the '4th wall'?
and, anyways, your comment is so logically inconsistent, however short, I can't honestly respond without breaking down your errors point by point -- which would require a lot of work and only meet with hostile resistance.

logic is futile.

The 4th wall. Any in game narrative that discusses modes breaks that wall. 4th wall breaks are usually bad for 'immursion'. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=4th+wall&t=chromentp&atb=v109-1&ia=web

I have no need to be hostile, I am just not sure what you are asking for aside from the vague suspicion that this is just another Open only/bonus for something or another. If it is just that, then the same arguments for and against it apply as always, and this is just another superfluous thread.

Now, if this is you asking for Fdev to add some more to the PP stories, and activities, than we have now, for all modes, then I am all ears. What do you have in mind?

omggggg
you could destroy vast swaths of stations along a front-line:

-increase value of FSD range
-reduce viability of combat ships (say if they can't actually jump more than ~25)
-create choke-points
-establish pivotal control stations

omggggggggggggg

'behind enemy lines' scouting missions in diamondback explorers?? or BHL assassinations in long range anacondas??

wait. wait. is the Mudhrid terrorist organization a proxy front for the Federation ?!?!!?
and the surveillance state a prelude to war??

what, is Winters perhaps not in on the plot??

a PP warfront narrative demands 'open only' to be truly functional. Otherwise players skew the narrative and play unfairly in solo. ...for example, player faction-controlled systems or blockades is neigh-meaningless if someone can sneak in under cover of solo and undo everything without having to confront enemy players. Or the basic premise of crucial combat zones (winning a battle and eventually the war,) quickly loses it's meaning when hard work is easily undone in solo.
(sigh) Here we go again...
An argument in favor of Open Only that still fails to address the core issues:
  • Time Zones - A person not logged in cannot be countered.
  • Locality - You can only be in one place at a time. If "they" are in another system, you won't encounter them. The fact that you cannot see them on the Galaxy map means that you don't even know where they are.
  • Instancing - If you don't instance, it doesn't matter whether they are in Open.
  • Open for Consoles - Console gamers have to pay for Open, meaning that you are forcing them into a Pay to Play requirement.
  • Cross Platform Interaction - You cannot fight someone that isn't in your environment.
Bluntly, Open Only will not solve the Power Play "problem".

you guys obviously don't understand the video gaming industry and it's primary audience. ...neither does Fdev, seeing how they have neglected ED in favor of Zoo Planet and rollecoaster games... what can you expect from occult saturnists who may be owned by an alien...

Anyways, there are answers to your 'problems', if not absolute then providing at least a partial solution.

Is mudhrid potentially the start of the 'front line'???? I will have to go back and look at mudhrid in respect to the rest of the bubble... I am not even sure how the empire and federation are seperated... I wonder on the alliance's role??? could be exciting O_O;;;

Given how popular the suggestion of blocking people who attack you in the game seems to be, any idea involving organic PvP as a gameplay mechanic where someone gains from evading a fight is going to be DOA.

The only way an open mode PP would work is to have scoring based solely on PvP kills.

why do console players have to pay? pay whom? Fdev? hmm?

too bad for them I guess. will be a great game without them...

Sorry, are you really asking this question? The question that is a key sticking point in your own argument for Open only PP? Since you don't actually understand all the problems I suggest you go away and think about it a bit and do some research and then come back with another proposal that actually takes all of them into account!

An in game narrative that even addresses "Open Mode" by definiton breaks the 4th wall.
Besides, PP is pan modal, pan platform, and pan time zone. Not sure where you even can go with that unless this is going to be just another Open Only PP thread.
I understand why people are opposed to open only content, but I don't really think the 4th wall matters in ED given how gamey and inconsistent the universe is. Though I would like to see someone explain the open only "NVIDIA Titan " GFX card competition form 2015 using only in uninverse lore haha

or better yet, play the game and don't worry about grown ups problems... because clearly the understanding of how the game systems interact with each other isn't strong in this one 😂

If you're really keen on doing some research, enter "open only PP" in this forum's search bar. You will quickly realise the amount of bandwidth wasted on this topic (this very post including) is far greater than the time you want to put in.

TL; DR: it's not gonna happen mainly for technical and design decision reasons - Fdev would need to switch from p2p networking to a hosted servers model; this costs money. Modes would have to be dropped - and they were introduced because FDev broke the "offline mode" promise. Console players would start demanding refunds which means bad press all around (fdev introduces pay 2 win!!!111). Add to that: timezone difference, instancing difference - if the players opposing you are in the USA and you are in Europe there's a chance you won't be instanced with them or see "invisible ships" (happened in a WING even). The entire networking model of the game would need to have been reworked for server infrastructure and even then you usually have "regions" (EU, US, Asia) so still a possibility you wouldn't encounter your opposition in game...

It needs a new game, which isn't hobbled by current design / financial decisions.

OP I would just ignore this rude repsonse, imo you can post all you want without having to be accountable to people demanding you do "research" before making a harmless post on a discussion forum. If they can't take the time to explain politely theres no need to take them seriously. Next people will be claiming they are at a disadvantage because their ISP charges them more per month, that's not a game design concern.
