Weight loss is obtainable but only if you exercise and eat properly - stick to a healthy diet, take your time and don't overdo it.

It doesn't mean eating like a parrot nor running marathons. To lose weight cut out ALL diary (milk, butter, bread, cheese), no high carbs either (no pasta) and avoid too much sauces (high in sugar and salt). Lower intake of fatty meat and more red lean meat & fish.

For exercise walking is the best. Get an audio book and just see how far you go. Little at first then just add more metres/miles every week. If this helps walk a little faster. You will drop pounds.

Body building only builds muscle you wont loose weight by lifting weights or press ups. Plus don't eat too late at night as you body puts on muscle when you sleep.

Oh and plenty of water. Lots if water. Really lots of water.

The aim is not to look good but to be healthy. Keep it simple and in about 6 months you will half the size you are now and feel fantastic. If you find you can do the walking easy without breaking a sweat - start running or better still cycling or swimming. If you're like most people and hate exercise try yoga (ignore the hippy bit). And just walk everywhere.

It is hard to avoid certain nice foods but once you've got a good eating plan you cam sneak in a few nice things and naughty things too. I put on too much when I quit smoking, tried joining a gym / nothing then I basically went full vegan and stopped taking the tube.

For goodness sake don't do everything you read in this thread :D You can lose weight eating cakes and drinking coke as long as you're at a calorie defect, that's fact but it's really unhealthy. Exercise is good for you in a huge number of ways both physically and mentally, exercise uses calories too which is handy but you don't HAVE to do it to lose body fat. Strength training will help you lose less muscle when you're dieting, that's also a fact but strength training when you're at a calorie deficit doesn't feel great, it's a bit of a struggle compared to when you're consuming a calorie surplus but I think it's worth it for the benefits. Strength training if you're in full on keto is borderline horrific feeling BTW :)

Very basically, calorie deficit (don't go too crazy) + required nutrients = healthy weight loss. If you don't have someone to create the right diet for you as mentioned myfitnesspal will give you a nutrient analysis of the foods you put into your meal diary.

Someone said go and see a doctor or dietician, that's probably a good very good place to start to get sensible qualified advice.

You said you want to build strength as well as lose weight. There is some good no (ish) information in this site https://www.aworkoutroutine.com/ about how all that kind of thing works, it's a bit USA in your face presentation (sorry US people but it is) but it doesn't mention goji berries or quinoa as far as I remember which is a good.

Mainly, good luck, keep at it, results won't be instant so be patient but if you stick to your goals you'll look back and know it was all worth it.

@OP - Did you go out and walk again? A daily walk is a great idea. You're accomplishing something every time you do it.

Yep. I went vegan in January and my energy and sleep have improved drastically. I also responded to antidepressants where before they didn't do much, and think I'm probably ready to come off (Doctor will tell me, if so)

If a Martial Art is a bit too much to start with, do an hourly walk/cycle. Try a couple of hourly gentle swims in the week and build up the intensity as and when: Water supports your body weight but still allows full motion of your limbs; you can put as much effort in as suits your fitness level without straining overtly. My Doctor advised walking briskly enough to get out of breath (but not fighting for breath) a couple of times during an hourly walk.

If your diet isn't that great atm (some find it takes longer than others to change this), take daily supplements of multivitamins and minerals.

Yeah, as you may have noticed I haven't been online quite so much in the last 48 hours.

This is because I have been taking Fudge out. I have also decided to go ahead with the weights, albeit a very light load given I'm a total beginner. The weights are more for my mental state, however. A session with them and some metal music is for me, a zen-like experience.

Guys, I once pondered getting a new bike about a year ago, but my depression got in the way. In that regard I failed. Now, as some of you know I've moved house quite recently. I think the move has caused me to take my health seriously, fresh start and all. Also how exhausted I got moving fairly light loads was a wake up call.

Here's my question. If I put aside my disposable income for the next 3-4 months, I'll be able to afford a nice, good quality bicycle. Should I go ahead with this? I'm thinking that not only would it be good for health, but I'd finally have a proper transport option. (If I get a bike I'd like to add a pannier rack so I can help the household with lighter shopping loads, saving petrol for the elder's cars)

A bicycle is a great idea! Excellent workout, transportation and a lifestyle change all in one.

I've cut my portions massively.

A small bowl of cereal or a single slice of toast for breakfast, a wrap with lots of fruit/vegetables and a little ham for lunch, and a healthy, light dinner in the evening when the elders are home from work.

I'm going to be honest. My eating was bad. I was getting through a packet of digestives in one day.

We've banned biscuits from the new place. I've also started drinking green tea, and it's great! A tea that needs no milk or sugar? Win!

I think it would be a total win. I'm 24 years old and I think it's about time I add a proper transport to my life. My town is also really bike-friendly, in fact we have a road connecting to the neighbour town that is 100% reserved for bikes, buses & emergency services.

I think I'm sold.
 
First thing you should do is control your eating. Second thing to do is exercise. When I was at my heaviest, I got busy and, one day, the whole day went by without me even eating. I simply didn't notice it. That got me to realize I was just eating too much. I simply cut down the amount I was eating and then put myself on a simple regimen of eating only when I was hungry. What this did was shrink my stomach and that, over time, made me want to eat less. Doing this, I dropped 30 pounds without even trying. Try this first and if it works for you, once you've got some of the weight off, then try exercising.

My two cents...

P.S. Looks like that's what you are in fact doing. Good start. Just get yourself to where you need to be, and then tackle the exercise. :)

If youre biking, get a good podcast on the go. You'll be amazed how quickly it passes time with low intensity cardio.

I'm saying this as someone who bounces between 14 and 18st regularly due to work life. If you keep at it, the endorphins will kick in and you'll start to enjoy exercise.

How about music? I'm already using fast guitar riffs while lifting, and it makes a technically uneventful & repetitive activity become quite pleasant. :)

Well.music works of course, I just normally reserve it for more high tempo work that requires a beat.

Past 48 hours, I've lost around 4lb. Is this okay? I'm not sure if this healthy, and if I'm just seeing the result of less food in my system?

Beginning of Sunday I was 322.4lb, now I'm 318.5lb, note, the Sunday weighing I was naked (giggity); today I was fully clothed.

I'm sure it's fine. My weight fluxuates between 185 and 190 all the time. I've seen 3-4 lbs difference in one day, so nothing to be alarmed about. A 20 lb drop would be concerning.
