Just after I post I agree with some limitations and disagree with others, you state I am talking about absolutes. Stop talking bollox. No one's dealing in absolute. Just you and the Sith. Your inability to construct an argument had now become amusing. Let me try and guide you.
If that's your idea of guiding me towards a good argument, I'd rather stay behind thank you very much. Just pointing at a successful game and going: should be like this, is not a very good argument, but I doubt I can convince you of that, so enjoy your delusionYou have a game that has 40 Billion star systems. Amazing flight model and plenty of exciting ships to fly.
In spite of that. People just dont play this game. Why? What would give people a reason to stick around? What would you implement in Elite to make people WANT to log in?
I chose to use the most successful space game of all time as an example. A game that people willingly paid a monthly fee to play. An entirely different philosophy for sure.
Elite protects and prevents players from any sort of interaction. Unwanted yes. But meaningful as well. That's the trade off. This creates a demand for the developer to create for the player something to give them purpose. This has clearly been a lot of pressure on Fdev, as it is on any developer when it comes to end game content in an mmo. They are failing, as they all do. It's a losing battle. Developer driven content is always polarizing and underwhelming.
On the other hand, you have Eve Online. A game that has enjoyed decades of success. People paid a monthly fee to partake in this game on spite of its non existent flight model and completely bland universe. Why? Because you had the freedom to create. Your actions had purpose and your bad decisions cost you (just pixels). This loss drove demand which created a marketplace where real players could fill the needs of other real players.
Despite having very few, if any, developer driven content this game not only stood the test of time, but flourished. People created massive corporations who could align themselves into alliance. They controlled areas.of.space, worked together to fill consumer demand be manufacturing goods, mining corps rose up to fill the needs.of the manufacturer. And individual players could satisfy market needs as well.
One game had a rich a bustling player base. It was a game, that on the surface is much less interesting and exciting. But it was a game that lasted a long time despite the presence of loss and lack of engaging flight mechanics.
Was eh?But I was an Eve player.

That is something you'll have to learn to live with, I fear.

Of course I can...Maybe you can explain what content you find meaningful
Fly them around aimlessly.

If you like Eve so much, go play Eve.
Was eh?
Of course I can...
But in the context of my comment, I am not the one requesting 'meaningful content' as I have expressed contentment with the game as it is. Sorry mate, I have no need to define something I already enjoy, don't you agree?
The fact that E|D hsa no path to follow, no bread crumbs trails with shiny rewards at the end, used to be considered as a positive around here. If meaningful content means Achievement UI's and a 'You're the hero' story lines, I don't think the Devs intend for E|D to be that game. Try Star Trek Online for that. At least, that's where I go for that experience.
Considering he’s saying there’s not meaningful content, and once you dig into elite I typically agree, and you’re saying there is, knowing what you’re finding meaningful could maybe help find common ground in the discussion.Of course I can...

I disagree, any debate here is for me, as it is for you.He is totally content with flying his ship.arojnd in circles. That's cool. This debate is not.for you.
Sure thing former Eve playerAs anticipated. Not a single argument posted. Not a single recommendation. Just argument analysis and personal observations. Now you're wasting my time.
I am a simple man, I play games to have some aimless fun. If I want to do some constructive, purposeful and meaningful I'll log out and do something that does not involve computer games.
Circular argument, old chap, I enjoy everything I do in the game, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it, surely?Considering he’s saying there’s not meaningful content, and once you dig into elite I typically agree, and you’re saying there is, knowing what you’re finding meaningful could maybe help find common ground in the discussion.
Sounds great. Me too. But I would like some depth to my game. Checkers gets old real fast. I cant just keep playing checkers. Eventually I find something better. That's what happens to the player base.
It's what happens to some of the player-base, no doubt. It's not a reason to change the game that everyone else bought into something they didn't though.Sounds great. Me too. If another player is unable to find contentment in the same game I am playing the issue resides with them, not with me.
The very same content is available to others (unless they do not have Horizons, of course) as is available to me...
Do you like Brussels Sprouts?
It should be more like Civilisation.Don't worry, that game has been around for thousands of years. It'll survive without you.
Are you purposely misunderstanding?Circular argument, old chap, I enjoy everything I do in the game, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it, surely?
