I’d like more commanders in the Open

I'd deal with this differently - those who regularly destroy players could lose the privilege of hollow/solid scanner marker differentiation between players and NPCs for a time.

Those destroyed by other players could have an enhanced version of the scanner marker that highlights those hollow markers that are regularly destroying players.
Interesting idea, but what would you do about the cmdr name in the contacts panel and in the comms tab panel?

Or we simply keep the modes as they are? You're the one valiantly and constantly denying any changes to the game based on vague kickstarter promises, so why don't you stick to it now too?
I wasn't the one who made the initial suggestion to remove hollow markers altogether.

.... and I've been asked to make suggestions as to how the experience of playing in Open could be improved for players in general.

Generate an NPC identity for the obfuscated player ship and use that in contacts, ship targetting, comms, etc. for players who have lost hollow scanner markers.

Effectively a player who had lost hollow scanner markers would only see NPCs - and, reasonably, others who had lost hollow scanner markers.

It would not stop players using players with fully functional scanners as spotters to assist - however it'd make it less convenient.

The loss of hollow scanner markers sanction would reasonably not apply to those who destroy players with bounties or notoriety.

My alert says you replied with 62 words.

There are just 61

Had to chime in here, as your attitude is so annoying. So the guy is a 911 operator. And? I am not American for starters, so it means nothing to me. Profession is irrelevant.

It doesn't excuse behaving like a brain dead griefer. He might not be brain dead in real life, according to you, in which case he should take a look in the mirror. Or do you think its admirable ganking inexperienced players who have little chance as they are getting into the game? To me, that kind of behaviour demonstrates limited mental capacity when someone takes pleasure from it. Its the kind of thing I used to do on WoW when I was about 22.

The other reason your attitude is annoying is that it is typical of many gamers in online multiplayer games. They think because they are anonymous and unaccountable, it excuses them behaviour they would not dare apply to real life. You are right in saying you cannot JUST judge someone from how they act in a game, but if that is all we have to go off, then sorry but you shouldn't be surprised if people take a dim view. After all, lets be fair, if he sits there smirking to himself while he blows away sidewinders at farseer, how smart can he really be?

I mean fine, in open, the devs have made it possible to act that way. All good. I mean, if you want to use the boundaries of a game to act like a because you can't in real life, then knock yourself out. Just don't make out its all nice or that other people should accept it any more than they would in real life. Its still just as anger inducing when someone tries to be an arsehole in a game as it is in real life. Therefore the negative consequences are also similar. Whether you like it or not.

Your mate could be the Dalai Lama, but if he is going round ganking fresh commanders at a known early progress zone, then I am sorry chief, but he is lacking moral fibre.
Do you realize that by saying nasty things about griefers like this, you're actually worse than they are?
Great job! Not only have you sunk to their level but you've gone beyond it. 👏

There are other details to think about like what to do if you kill another player in consensual combat, and said player might be in a wing with you or on your friends list.

So I am still currently opting for the idea of implementing a C&P system whereby he who kills shall almost certainly be killed immediately after by security, but only in higher security systems.
Open to further proposals though ..

It could be avoided by players switching "report crimes against me" to off.

But why, when he just could bypass the hassle with mode switching? I understand what you want all too well. What you guys don't understand is that it's not going to happen in ED. Simple like that, but if you even struggle to understand this simple fact any further discussions are futile. I wonder why I still bother at all, the weather is telling me I'm such an idiot...
You captured the problem exactly. Why would people not choose the path of least resistance for things like powerplay? And that understanding is what gave us the flash feedback powerplay thread with the open only suggestion. The question is not if it needs to change, the question is if Fdev has the stones to do so.

I've found system chat in Borann an interesting lesson in humanity. Some of the most vile comments (including blatant racism) in system chat are coming from miners hiding in solo. Meanwhile I've had some downright pleasant interactions with gankers in the past.

I'm also somewhat okay with the idea of gankers in Borann actually ganking, even when they gank newer players. The ability to make millions of credits per hour should be an end-game privilege, not something that a third-day player is able to do. At least gankers make miners earn all that coin, those who mine in Open.

I wonder what people mean when they say “we want more pvp content”? Tournaments? Scripted missions? Something else? Genuine curiosity..
CQC matches that can be queued for while in the game, just like they are now, except we can use our own, engineered ships. Why that isn't a thing that's already in the game blows my mind.

Absolutely. I've actually been going to Borann in my fully pvped out Krait II attempting to disguise myself as a miner, not to gank but to gank the gank. 😁

The problem with Powerplay, Open Only or not, is that the core gameplay loop, is filling PvE buckets.

People are romanticizing Open Only Powerplay as if it will become a dynamic epic struggle of factions pitting their most skillful pilots against each other, but it won't be. It will still be, who fills up the bucket the fastest. Epic struggles aren't economical viable. Escorts are a waste of resources which can better be applied to filling buckets. All of this is caused by a rougue Head of Development with wild ideas but little practical application.

What PvPers want is them driving the story, their actions determining the boundries of conflict. What PvPers need is a civil war fueled by PvP encounters. Systems changing hands because of military presence and military achievements and even the way the propaganda machine twists these events. And all the elements for civil war are in this game. You have Federation and Imperial super powers, who already have a healthy dislike for each other, have very recognizable characteristics, have outspoken support by the players, and, perhaps more important, their own ship types.

Or ... you get to escort a hauler.

This thread isn't about pro pvp people.

It is about anti pvp people wanting to play in open instead of the mode they have been given to play the way they want.

Along with wanting escort mechanics in the game.
This would be an awesome mechanic to implement into the game.

If there was some possible way for players to request my services through some kind of in game menu, to escort them while they're mining, heading to an engineer, ect. and be able to pay me by simply transferring credits to me, that would be absolutely AMAZING!
And before anyone cries exploit, being able to transfer game currency that you've already earned to another player should be allowed and plenty of other MMO's have ways to do it with no issue.

All they need to do is do it. Stop waiting for FD or anyone else to hold their hands and show them where the water is. All of the tools are there, including PP. If all they want out of PP is PvP they don;t need OO as some official stamp of approval, reminding the rest of the galaxy that they are important, and that they matter.

No suggestion to improve the PvP situation is acceptable but an OO solution. The actual truth behind this is the key to understanding the situation. It isn't fair of me to speculate what is going on in the minds of others, but we all have our theories about this. I believe that a thorough vetting of this issue could reveal why there is such an impasse over PvP. Let's have some PvPers explain the need to capture opponents, rather than accept the opponents that show up freely.

NPC wingmen were discussed in the DDF - sadly they have not yet made it in to the game.

Hiring player wingmen would require trust - a rare commodity in a game with no consequence for betrayal.

Frontier choose not to permit direct credit transfer in their game - and "other games do it" is not a compelling argument in favour of it. A few of tonnes of LTDs would reasonably cover escort fees - and can be paid in the game as it is at the moment.
