I don't like the griefy nature of ppl blasting freighters, but Powerplay and combat CGs were good ways to matchmake people who actually want to have some combat fun.Yet they were mostly used by pvpers

It's the only thing eve lacked. EVE is a shining example , and the only.example of what a sandbox actually is. It's the last sandbox.
And funny, their number didnt start to dwindle until CCP started protecting noobs, making it possible to run a solo POS and changing the way null sec worked. Imagine that.
Fair nuff, nothing else to addWe did. We would just go to any high traffic system but when Shinrarta was dead we'd have to find somewhere else.
If you ever pay attention to the player threat chart on inara you'll see that Shinrarta is always the highest and has the most player murders. Deciat is actually pretty low threat most of the time.
Give me your address, and I'll send you free waffles.I'd like free waffles.
Doesn't mean it's going to happen.
How's it doing now that it's gone free-to-play?
.... and I think I read something about a mobile version?
Depends on the concept and the implementation.
Nothing so dramatic - I don't find silent gankers much "fun" to play with though - so I don't waste my time with them.
That some bought the game wanting it to be something else is obvious - however Frontier haven't changed their stance in over seven years of the PvP/PvE debate.
Oh no doubt. I can always find a fight in San Tu and I actually stated in a comment a few pages back that I've been going to Borann just to pick fights but finding PvP isn't my point. I'm just stating the fact that by removing CG's they've taken away the only thing that kept gankers busy and out of Deciat for the most part.I dont think pvp need designated areas at all. Just communicate with people and set things up. Hell, go to borann and sit on the sun with all the other google fit epeeners. Not hard.
The only problem with PvP is a major one indeed. That's lack of damage due to all these desperate grinds Fdev keep throwing at us under the guise of "new content".
That seems to falsely assume that a single forum user holds sway over the design of the game.I know how the white knights feel about that. And I thank you for being the primary reason this game is the greatest hollow shell ever made.
I'm not sure what is happening nowadays and if EvE is actually dying, but if it is it's not the F2P model itself. I still played for a long while after it went F2P and it was actually doing great. How's it doing now that it's gone free-to-play?
Judging by the ever dwindling player base, maybe it's time they shouldhowever Frontier haven't changed their stance in over seven years of the PvP/PvE debate.
Can you please provide a link to stats that encompass the whole player-base?Judging by the ever dwindling player base, maybe it's time they should![]()

The game wasn’t designed to revolve around anything other apparently other than going from point a to point b, exemplified by the lack of continuity between all of its “features”Given that CGs and Powerplay are pan-modal features, it's not so much that those who prefer to play in Open have been "abandoned" - more that the game was not designed to revolve around them in the first place.
I mean, you gotta admit it was an awesome and fun little game we made. We would try to gank the freighters while police players would try to stop us. My squadron actually organized this huge event on Xbox called The Distant Robbery where players chose to play as cargo haulers, escorts, pirates or defenders. The haulers had to haul at least 500 tons of cargo over 500lys in any ship they wanted excluding the Cutter while the escorts defended them against the pirates and defenders would try to stop the players attempting to ruin the whole thing. It was a blast and having veteran pvpers be the ones piloting the cargo ships proved to be more difficult than expected.I don't like the griefy nature of ppl blasting freighters, but Powerplay and combat CGs were good ways to matchmake people who actually want to have some combat fun.

Ah - so those seeking to change the game in ways that would likely be unpalatable to those who bought it for what it is don't like opposition? Noted. You know you're not alone. And you know that's not what I meant. If you cant construct counterpoint dont feel bad. You are fighting a battle without weapons and you are fighting for the side that lacks soul. Not your fault.
One wonders why, if EVE is the be-all-and-end-all of space-game (for some people), why anyone who likes EVE would bother with this game? Its david vs goliath here when it comes to Eve (one of the most well known, longest lasting and succesful games of all time and Elite (cute little game).
This is actually a great point about how engineers and inflated number values via engineers, and thus the spectrum of survivability in ships, from non combat to combat respectively, much wider.Eh, I usually stay away from threads like these, because they go in circles and nothing will change anyway, but what the hell… here we go.
Reasons why I gave up on Open:
1. Rubber banding, occasional increased arrival times in systems, blocked docking pads and other network related issues I’m mostly not experiencing in Solo.
2. Engineers
3. Shield Cell banks
4. Hull Reinforcement Packages
So I’m doing all of the 3 professions in Elite (Combat, Trading, Exploring) that is why I fly multi-role ships. Now let’s assume I’m in a Python doing some trade runs and I get interdicted by another Python. Now I’ve got guns, my opponent got guns. I decide I could handle the guy and we duke it out. Even if my opponent is better and I lose, at least I had the feeling I could do something about it, maybe give my opponent a bloody nose even. Hopefully both of us had a great time.
That is not how it currently works however. Right now if I get interdicted I can assume I’m fighting against a souped up murder-boat thanks to points 2-4. Unless my opponent totally sucks, my chances of surviving the battle of attrition are very low (which is combat in Elite basically). So the only option is to roll with my eyes (annoyance) and high wake out as fast as possible. Every. Single. Time. Annoying and boring. The thrill of Open is just not worth it to me with the state the game is currently in.
Yes I could buy a better hull, reinforcement packages and shield cell banks myself and I do, but there is a fine line between taking measures that ensure your survival and gimping your ship for the sake of survival up to a point where anything but combat would be pointless.
I’m not expecting to win against a Corvette while flying a Type-9 or with a small ship against a big one, but all the stuff Frontier added just increased the gap between having a fighting chance and total obliteration.
(You don’t need to show me videos of Sidewinders destroying Anacondas. I’m aware that there are exceptionally good pilots)
I was going to write something about why I enjoy ganking and being ganked in Dark Souls (2,3), but it can be condensed to the following points:
- Never assume you are attacking or defending yourself against a total pushover
- Gear has very little to do with your performance as an invader/defender

I can provide a link to the fact that I switched to PC and had my wealth transferred because the PvP community is almost completely dead and gone on xbox and the 3,000 active players I saw last Saturday on Steam isn't a very high number. Can you please provide a link to stats that encompass the whole player-base?

What about other XBox CMDRs?I can provide a link to the fact that I switched to PC and had my wealth transferred because the PvP community is almost completely dead and gone on xbox and the 3,000 active players I saw last Saturday on Steam isn't a very high number.
Yeah elite has an amazing sandbox. But rather than add tools to it, they just add more sand. This is Elite in a nutshell. Hence the strugfle Fdev is having to satisfy their player base. Where else can they go from here?
Option 1: create more grind based, meaningless content that further buries new players and deters them from enjoying the game. Further unbalances pvp by burying it in heaping loads of power creep.
Option 2: Give the players the ability to build modules, ammo, ships, stations and control areas of space. 40 billion systems. Dont worry carebears this doesnt affect you.
Option 1 is a recipe for a dead game as Fdev have been on this path way too soon and have exhausted their options.
Option 2 creates a meaningful game experience and gives value to a multitude of commodities and in game activities that currently have zero.
