If Combat Logging is a bad thing. Then why is it okay to attack a player faction without being seen?

Yeah, that's what is known as compromise.. not something that is big around here I admit. Very well.. No defending in private groups/solo. Better?

Nah - I disagreed with it at the time, if you remember.

If Frontier are prepared to reconsider fundamental game decisions, I'd like them to consider this one: the single shared galaxy state. If the current state was cloned then one could continue to serve the existing three game modes - and a new Open Only game mode could be created with its own BGS. Naturally, to avoid exploits achievable through mode swapping between the divergent galaxies, players choosing to play in Open Only would not be able to mode switch and would require to commit to play in that mode with a one way ticket out should they choose to exercise that option. In this way an optional additional feature could be provided to accommodate those who want an Open only BGS, without taking away from the game experience of those who are content with the arrangement of modes / BGS as it is now.

Notice how both black AND white have access to the space around the edge. Seems perfectly fair to me.

Not to mention that if thats how he sees things he would need to add a board for each instance and multiply it by 3 to account for the different platforms.

And since open is the most popular mode (according to a different post) its chess board is bigger than all the rest.

The Queen goes straight to the King if you look.. But the point I'm quite obviously trying to make is that chess would suck if you bypass all the actual combat/strategy and just provide a path of least resistance to either side.

HAH! Got em

And immediately gets taken by the king. You are aware that kings can capture pieces too, right?

Do you think we're drifting from the point a bit? I can add an extra square to the bottom if you really think its imperative to the argument..

It would still take a Queen four moves to get into position - and both players would be aware of and have access to the bypass - rendering it completely opposable, just like player actions in Solo and Private Groups affecting the BGS....

Yes, but ED isn't EXACTLY like chess.
It's designed (and marketed) as a game played on an 8x8 grid.
ED is designed (and marketed) as a game which is played in any of 3 modes, all of which impact the shared 'meta-board'.

So, changing chess to be more like ED would make it suck and a lot of people would be upset.

But would the game be any fun? No.

Actually, it could be fun, since that strip down the side would be easy to defend, but would remove pieces from the main board.
So tactically, do you press for advantage on the main board, or the bypass strip, or do you try to balance your forces between the two.
It could be a whole new level of exciting.

It might be at least as much fun as conventional chess.

Individual definitions of "fun" differ - as can be seen from the differences in opinion as to what constitutes "fun" gameplay in this game.

So ganking is ok too right then? As long as one side is having fun right? Understood.

Whether it's OK or not (in terms of player preference), it's not prohibited - and players can choose a mode that suits their play-style and continue to play the game their way.

Both are pretty okay in my book. I may even add using menu to log off from a full wing of FDL is pretty satisfying when your ship has such ridiculously long time to kill. Anything pvp related will never be played fair without a strict frame. Welcome to the internet.

Why ask for a gameplay who will just be ruled by the numbers of nerds in a faction, as its already the case anyway... And then just take a dump on CQC when this one is actually skill based...
