If someone from Fdev streams themselves unlocking all the Guardian tech. I will eat my eye patch.

Sigh, all I do is hit res sites these days for fun (incoming nerfs no doubt) I'd love to do something more interesting but sadly I can't devote every walking hour to do the thargoid or guardian stuff, the original Ram Tah mission put me right off as I am not a GCHQ code cracker. I struggle with coffe time crosswords, and as for cryptic clues well, I might as well be on mind altering drugs just like the people who presumably make them.

Guardian missions by comparison feel like cryptic crosswords on steroids and by extension must be the work of a high functioning autistic person.

How would you organically get:

16 Module Blueprint Segment
17 Pattern Alpha Obelisk Data
42 Pattern Epsilon Obelisk Data
123 Power Cell*
116 Power conduit*
73 Sentinal Weapon Parts*
68 Sentinel Wreckage Components*
160 Technology Component*
48 Weapon Blueprint Segment

.. for all the guardian stuff?

So wait, only for the blueprints you would have to do the structures 64 times?

Just to point out before I begin that my eyepatch is not just some scrap of leather. There is lots of tech crammed in there that lets me interface with my ship directly through my eye socket to my brain. So it will be crunchier than y'all might think.

Sandro has said something along the lines of wanting to respect our time. Or respecting our time already. Now many of us all laughed in disbelief at that statement simply because up to that point it may as well have been a lie given the situation at that time and just how long we have had the RNGineers biowaste being funneled down our throats. But time went on and I stopped laughing and wanted to believe you would be better about these things. And as far as the new Engineers go mission accomplished. Engineering is still a long grinding tunnel for sure but at least there is an actual light at the end now though it could still stand to lose a couple more miles of grind. But just like an abusive spouse it was not too terribly long before you were right back to old habits of beating the player base with ridiculous grind requirements...

Just have a taste of your own medicine. And look at the camera while "playing" and say you are having fun. And mean it. Say with a straight face that THIS (4:10)

https://youtu.be/GWSsV7gI-RI?t=4m9s

is a part of your grand vision for the game. That this is the level of game play you strive to achieve.

Update...

"Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to stream it. I'm state side, and do not have the upload speed to be able to stream..."

OK fine fair enough you cannot personally do it. But I did say to him that does not stop you from getting this ball rolling within Fdev's ranks.

"The thread has been sent onwards to the team this morning, other than that - i don't know much more on the status of it than that.
Anyhow, 3.30pm, going to get me a late lunch."

-Brett C

Had to pester him on Discord but I did at least get some form of an answer. But there it is.

Now just for some of my open thoughts here...

I don't know what team he would have sent it to seeing as live streams and community interactions are kind of his department but what the heck do I know...

But in the end if any member of the community team decides they want this to actually be done and not just send it team to team or whatever. It can be done. There is nothing stopping Fdev but Fdev. And I have said this before but if the people who made a system are not willing to suffer it themselves then they need to check themselves.

If some lower level devs we have never seen on stream or anything wants to take this opportunity to jump into the spotlight and become darlings to the community this is the way to do it.

I honestly think that the balancers and designers don't want to change much simply because they are afraid of criticism - as in, they won't change anything based on criticism simply because it means "I am wrong" - it would mean it is an admission of being bad.

A stream of themselves unlocking guardian tech implies grinding for it, spending a gaming session or two focused on nothing but that, which is the opposite of how the game is meant to be played. You're not supposed to set your mind on just one thing and go for it hardcore until you hate the game.

You think forcing the devs to adopt your game style will prove your point that the game is too grindy? All it will prove is that any game style overly focused on achievements is a stupid way to go about playing video games.

You hear that everybody?
You're doing it wrong. Listen to this guy. He knows.
Just aimlessly flounder about the galaxy until you accidentally and organically unlock this stuff.
You'll have it no time.
Trust him.

I suppose then the request could be

Could the Dev complete Ram Tahs Guardian Log Missions, decrypting and decoding, and then at the end of that, what Guardian Modules at the Tech broker can they then unlock (with the allowance of the Human commodities)

Does Playing the Game as per the mission on hand mean that the Player will be able to unlock at least one module from a Tech broker, now the Blue Prints are a 1:1 not a 3:1 reward from the Pylons.

I have unlocked the fixed Plasma Charger, Power Plant and Fixed Gauss Cannons after doing the mission alone, and I felt it about right BUT from when you got a 3:1 reward and Blueprints incorrectly from Obelisks, thought I think that was the Spacecraft blueprints so surplus anyway

I've found myself agreeing with many of your posts over the past few months, but I think this one is off the mark.

Don't feel too bad about it. Although I know I am always right, I understand such perfection is a rare thing so not everybody can agree with me all the time. [noob]

Anyway, your sig kind of contradicts your statement in a way.

We want to see Sandro get really good at unlocking the new Guardian stuff.

It's funny that you should mention that quote though. That quote was DB saying he wants balance between the various activities, so as to preserve variety and player choice.
And when you consider that the core gameplay loops in ED are pretty simplistic and can get old quick (which, when you look close enough, is always the real issue behind that big red muleta people call the grind), maintaining variety to do a bit of everything without focusing too hard on any one tedious activity is at the core of how one can enjoy ED in the long run.

You hear that everybody?

Well that is how the game was initially designed. Not as a grind simulator, but a game in which you'd just do stuff as you came across it. Why is so much information obfuscated? So that you'd discover and figure things out on your own (which would be 75% of the fun) rather than follow the intructions of a wiki to the letter ( because at this point you'd have skipped that very same 75% of the fun). Why do things take time to unlock? Because you're not meant to spend a week doing nothing but grinding for them. Because those things aren't meant to be the focus of your gaming sessions, they're just a distant goal, and unlocking them kinda happens eventually. They're meant to be the cherry on top: you're meant to enjoy the process, and once in a while you also get the satisfaction of unlocking them.

I'm rural, adsl life for me.

I am rural in Qc canada and we still get cable, find it odd a community manager that presumably does lots of work "online" only has access to adsl, I would think having decent internet would be a must.

Anyways, it was meant to be comedic, get one of your colleagues to do it!

E:D's grinding wouldn't be so tedious if the game actually worked like it was supposed to.

Broken base trespass zones. Galaxy map broken. Several broken mission types. The QA is a joke, as is the notion that they playtest any of the grind.

I would like to see this too, but we will never see this because he simply does not play this game.

+1 or the Engineers still wouldn't be a grindfest.

We had to wait... what... over a whole year for them to change it from a Casino - to something that is only meeting us halfway (as in, they removed 2 out of 3 wheels of the spin machine, but we're still left with one that only gets better each time it is cranked).

Still takes 7-10 attempts to max just 1 G5 module - and the latest Guardian Power Plant and Power Distributor are pretty big let downs - the weapons are fine, I love them - but still, again, held back from greatness by only being limited to 4x experimental weapons.

Oh, and everything is just Size Medium.

It is just so frustrating how they have gone about implimenting it.

Would it have been too hard just to allow us the choice of out-fitting all 8 hard points with experimental weapons and/or turreted versions, and then just upping Thargoid HP by 2x or 3x?

Would it have REALLY been that hard to do when the net profit would have been less frustration when outfitting?

I give up.

I've tried logging in recently - I want to play this game - I really do. But after 15/16 weeks total play time on my account (that's roughly 2,688 hours of solid play), and after all the past year of engineering, eye-balling planets, doing back-ground sim stuff...

I just can't bring myself to leave the launch pad. It actually makes me feel sick thinking about it.

I love the Guardian content, it felt like a new game for a week playing it - the ambient atmosphere, music, all of it - I loved it - but then the old drudgery of GRINDING for the new Guardian tech kicked in, which wasn't too bad "cool guardian stuff!" was circulating in my head, along with thousands of other players - but having to complete odd missions to get odd bits of materials to also unlock it after all that effort?

Wow. It made me sigh, again, in total frustration. You mean, after spending 30 odd hours at the Guardian Structures, farming everything, you now want me to get materials from human missions or ships or signal sources? Really?

I haven't even begun to unlock any of the human/thargoid technology yet - I just flat-out hate the idea of plugging in so much time for something such as the Caustic Resistance armour with no other bonuses besides the measily +3% resistance that is still subject to diminishing returns.

If you think I'm wasting my time to do that, get bent.

I've said it before - I just don't believe the developers play their own game - they spend it theorycrafting in weekly meetings and have no concept of time because some sort of Thargoid singularity has them frozen in suspended animation. That, or it is literally a few ideas on a napkin - because, hey, if NASA does it, and we make space games, stuff on napkins is cool, lets base our game on it.

Joking aside, they need to get their minds together.

They are making the exact same mistakes with the Engineers and Thargoid/Guardian content that World of Warcraft made - as in, only a small percentage of players actually manage to play all the content, the rest have better things to be doing or just aren't flat out interested in the grind like it is Black Desert Online (which is how Elite feels, in all honesty).

edit; so yeah, I'm so dis-heartened by the game right now. I wanted multicrew to be great - I wanted it to be a game mode where I could get my friends playing the game, who aren't the type who do space sims etc - but a) the turrets are just weak as hell, no benefits, b) ship-launched fighters the only other option, but c) the credits were rank based, so players earned so much less when the hypocritical decision with d) meant, at the same time the patch dropped, wing players get the full benefit of payments despite rank - where in the HELL is the sense in that?

The design decisions are astonishing.

Why, in the same patch, would you limit credit payments for your new, shiny co-op mode where players could be in the same vessel, while at the same time give no limit to any wing mates in their own ships and everyone shares the entire FULL amount?

What!?!?

Aside from the connection problems (which have gotten majorly better), there is no incentive to do multicrew - you can't even deploy SRVs with your friends to explore Guardian ruins.

And on top of all of that? Another golden qoute "If it proves to be popular, we'll continue to improve it" or something along those lines. So, if it is actually BAD because of YOUR BAD decisions, you will just give up on it?

So yeah... not impressed.

You dare put the pressure on US if something you released isn't good that you just won't simply expand on it? When you badly implimented it in the first place? It's just as bad as the qoute from Sandro in the OP's post about "not wanting to waste our time".

Sigh.

Rant over.

If the stream is done for charity I will happily put money into it.

Yeah me to and I would double the amount I have in mind if they manage to unlock all Guardian modules.
It would serve a good cause and make the devs experience what kind of abomination they created.
