If Thargoids Destroyed The Bubble....

Would you move to colonia? i know i would enjoy that! there could also be a sick CG were you transport Refuges to Colonia !!!=0 , i really hope FD doesn't pull a Cliche move and just have the thargoids in the pleades nebula with just more grind and thats it =(

The cliché would be "powerful aliens destroy humanity, the few survivors struggle to find a new home".

How about every X minutes the Thargoids start an attack on the human colonial fleet and everybody has to jump out just before the time is out. Oh and it turns out that the Thargoids look like us and we are all Thargoids, we just don't know.

We learn that the Thargoids steel our genes and infest huge space hulks. Super soldiers in powerful armor enter those space hulks and try to eliminate the gene-stealiers.

We fight back on July 4th after coordinating the attack with morse code and infecting the hive ship with a Powerbook and a computer virus.

Only to find the Thargoid ships dead. We find out that they all died from a cold.

And how would a CG that requires us to transport refugees to Colonia be any different from a CG that required us to haul some tech cargo to Colonia?

If an [unspecified stereotype] parked a car in an empty lot, would they still hit something?

That's right you [unspecified stereotypes] I'm talking about you.

Suffice it to say, if the bubble popped, I'd not notice, but I'd be glad to sell the survivors everything they'd need to rebuild - at a premium.

If the all powerful Thargoids had the capacity to totally annihilate the bubble, why wouldn't they just follow and massacre the survivors?
I mean if you are going to far as to kill trillions upon trillions of people on thousands of planets and space stations, why not butcher them all?
Why would Colonia be safe from an enemy that powerful? Its hardly like its a secret. There is a whole ED novel about humans and Thargoids working together, so to say someone wouldn't sell the survivors out for personal gain underestimates human greed.

AFAIK there has only ever been boarder skirmishes, small population colony worlds wiped out. Nothing on the scale of the whole bubble.
Forcing all players to spend days/weeks/months jump jumping across the bubble isn't exactly emergent gameplay.... The only way they could do it would be to reset the entire game and start everyone in colonia as having 'woken up after the great evacuation'.

Where is Colonial One, and President Roslyn's Whiteboard? :)

We have *never* seen *this* movie before.... :)

If the Thargoids destroyed the Bubble...

I would see if what is left is still fun to play. If yes, I will carry on. If not, I will go play something else (until "they" fix it).

They, OBE, if you please. :)

1) Asking FD not to make us grind is like asking Trump not to Tweet. (I'm American; no hate please)

2) I would absolutely never play again if I had to travel that far. Some people like it (it being 'exploration') but it's not just a threat I would actually never play again. I didn't want to go push my Python's drives to grade 5 at Palin today. Why? Because it was 490 Ly away from me. I sold my FDL simply because I couldn't think of a time recently I'd used it because of the horrific jump range. One time I looked at the ship transfer page thinking I could go somewhere far (500 Ly) in my Asp and send my Anaconda but then saw it was half my rebuy @ 15 million credits.

I'm not being rude, I'm simply saying I'd personally never play again.

your not playing the game right if all you think about is jump range , honestly if i was in your shoes ild play a different game if i wasn't willing to jump 500lys jez, thats like saying " i dont want to drive 5 miles to the mall so i will never leave my house"

No. That's saying he's not going to walk an hour to the grocery store to buy milk, he'd rather use his car. If he can't drive his car he'll drink something else.

I really like exploring. I don't like trading. If Fdevs forced me to trade for a couple of days I'd probably go do something else untill they came back to their senses.

You already said it OP, Colonia has everything the bubble has but just less. So why are we settling for less then? Unexplored and unpopulated? A ten minute drive in my Asp will give me the same experience within the bubble.
The struggle of a lack of services, outfitting and ships? CGs and playing the BSG to slowly unlock/add more. For what? The joy of doing more of the exact same CG we have been doing for the past 3 years with different text and paint? Perhaps the mind numbing task of pushing numbers around with the bsg.

Per FD, correct me if I am wrong, Thargoid content is going to be "optional". Burning the bubble isnt going to happen.

Uh, if the former isn't going to happen (because it isn't going to happen) then the latter isn't a relevant outcome; because it doesn't exist. The bubble will not be rolled. It, will not, be rolled. Ergo there is no reason to escape to anywhere. We know this, because frontier have added more engineers, and none are near or in Colonia. The most relevant region locked space is ~300LY away from the bubble. There is no invasion. More like a nice cup of tea and some scones with some new friends from out of town. Spiffing, I say!

Colonia and it's outliers are still a mostly irrelevant population, doing mostly irrelevant things, affected mostly (irrelevantly) by BGS wranglers, who are mostly in PG and Solo. But, I digress.

tl;dr - there is no rumble, in the jungle [you can still] fly safe.

Then you would'nt be safe in Colonia anyway. Death would be upon you soon muahaha. [big grin]

It's probably a nice place for explorers but i have zero interest in flying there. I would uninstall halfway there.

im just waiting for the outcry from the thargoids..

its just a matter of time that they come here on the forum and moan that they are being griefed!
they will make their own private group and nobody will see them ever again.

If the bubble became unavailable, then FDev would need to set up new starter systems. There's no way they'd drop newbies in sideys straight into a war zone. And if they did that, then the "Overlord of Eravate" wouldn't have any targets to hunt.

I wouldn't go to Colonia. Probably head out into the Black somewhere.

But I doubt we'll see the Thargoids overrunning the Bubble. It's a bit of a shame, because if they did, it'd be cool to have a "Fall of Saigon" style moment in the game as players frantically evacuate with whatever ship they have whilst the Coriolis and Orbis stations burn.

On a completely unrelated, but interesting, historical side note, when the fall of Saigon was all but inevitable, there was supposed to be a secret signal broadcast to people "in the know" for them to proceed to the embassy for helicopter evacuation. The signal was Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". Someone forgot to play the song, and the result was chaos at the embassy...I'll be playing this song when the Thargoids begin their invasion and we're all fighting for our lives [alien]

Given that the current speed of Thargoid advance seems to be at most 500 LY/year, the only way Thargoids are going to show up in Colonia is in an Elite V [1] set in 3350 or 3400.

Every thing in the bubble can be found in Colonia (after 2.4 when they add engineers there)
There's a few other things missing:
1) We don't know how far after 2.4 it will be that Colonia gets an engineer. There's certainly no sign of one showing up that soon, unless they've kept it very quiet. Colonia is ~1/300th the size of the Sol bubble, so probably won't get two engineers even if/when it gets one. I wouldn't expect the full range of options by a long way. We don't even have A-rated modules yet for most things. (We don't even have the larger B-rated ones, for that matter)
2) No Powerplay. The Colonia bubble isn't big enough for even one Power.
3) No Superpowers. (Therefore no superpower ships, ranks, etc.)
4) Limited (and somewhat odd) passenger missions because almost every tourist beacon is within 500 LY of Sol.
5) Limited systems. If you think the queue for Dervish Platform is bad now... With the whole player population of the bubble stuffed into Colonia every system would be extremely busy.

Some of those might change in the next couple of years ... others, almost certainly not.

[1] An Elite V, set 50-100 years on, in a somewhat expanded Colonia starting to be threatened by Thargoid expansion after the original bubble was wiped out some time between the two games? Perhaps with some sort of extremely limited fast-travel tech "galactic hyperdrive" to jump to other Exodus Project colonies? If Frontier ever want to do an Elite I reboot that would be an excellent excuse and in a decade or so I might buy that :)

Yeah, I can't wait to relog after workweek to find myself floating around in space with station bits all around me.
