Newcomer / Intro If you think the game will get easier later, think again. I really think I'm done with it:(

I get the same feeling myself - I mean, exaggeration on the forums is known but surely they can't all be doing it?!?! So I find myself in the same scenario. Are we just two lucky RNG individuals? Is it something to do with the ships we are flying and our combat ranks? Or is there a missing piece of information such as PP/ Bounties etc that keeps getting missed off the aggrieved forumites experiencing this serial interdiction.

PS. Oh happy days. Was just interdicted. By (weirdly) the lowest ranked NPC I have ever had recently. I think he was competent. And in a FAS.

But something is amiss: I submitted as usual, checked contact to ensure no wings of doom and henceforth deployed weapons. He is Clean. Then my PDs start shooting his missiles. He is still clean (??) finally he gets a hit on me with a laser or whatever, becomes wanted and I open up and destroy him. (for 200Cr)

I have a video if anyone disbelieves me.....but still confused as to why a clean NPC interdicts me, and then none of the usual "fabulous" banter.....you know, the Greenhorn and boil you up sort of stuff........very strange.

Yeah, I had these clean newbie pirates, too. It's weird, but I guess we could consider them a pirates who just arrived to the system and we're their first victim. :D

If you remember the system and faction of the NPC that interdicted you, you may want to open the System Map and check the RELATIONSHIP status to verify you are not unfriendly or hostile to that faction.

I suspect the interdiction by a clean ship is a 'trick' to catch CMDRs who don't bother to scan properly but just start blazing away, at which point they will become wanted. I have been interdicted by a clean Python. Happily I noticed it and waited till he attacked...

As for him staying clean while firing missiles at you, he hadn't hit you yet, so would not become wanted until he did.

I've not had a lot of interdiction spam, but when it does happen it can be a bit over the top. I had one fairly high ranking mission that spawned three or four different NPCs interdicting me, but have had others that spawned none. RNG.

I'm fairly sure that quite a lot of complaints come about because players take missions that are high ranking, above their capabilities, and are then angry at the (unexpected) level of opposition. The 'warning' in the mission blurb is frankly useless, as it always says the same thing, "Hostile ships may be sent against you". That's not helpful, and better mission descriptions might mitigate some of these issues, but presumably due to the procedural generation of the missions this is not easy to do.

Well, to be fair, the mission warns you in red letters that its recommended rank is above yours.
The fact that nobody pays attention to mission briefings is another matter...

Indeed...

I'm sure plenty of players just look at the payout. I still believe that better mission descriptions could go quite a long way towards solving the problem. Perhaps an indication of the rank, type of ship(s) and wing status of the opposition to be expected. This would also give those looking for more of a challenge a chance to take missions that would satisfy them.

I'll take long odds the two of you take as much notice of the mission rank as I do......that'll be none then.....so I can't blame them!

Actually, I do take note of the mission rank. :) Depending on the ship that I'll be flying to complete a mission will help determine whether I think I'll be up for it or not. Honest!

And truthfully, I'm not really 'blaming' the players, just stating what I think is probably happening, and suggesting that better mission descriptions might engage the player to take more notice of what's being said to them by the mission giver. Simply being told that a mission is above your rank (by how much?), and that hostile ships may be sent against you ends up being white noise once you've seen it a few times.

Edit to add: I know that players can figure out how much above their own rank a mission is, but I think a lot of the time they don't bother after they've seen the reward, and also when it's not a combat rank that's given, that can make it that much more confusing.

I have no doubt you are entirely correct! :)

At the end of the day this is a sub forum for newcomers seeking advice, the game is what it is and there is a feedback forum for criticism if the gameplay is not to your liking.

My observation (and I use the word carefully) is that many pilots expect passive behavior from the AI when they are conducting passive missions themselves and that assumption gets them killed.

Word.

I did some missions last night. I got interdicted a couple of times. They fired their lasers (oh dear!)

Chaff, boost, escape............

That is probably one of the most skillfully crafted "Git Gud" advises I've seen. :p
Also correct, of course. :)

I actually think it's a very realistic appraisal. Pragmatic and sensible............ it's not saying anything about "getting good" really. The only potential error is that any mission is really "passive" as such.

As has been noted in this thread; reading the mission briefings thoroughly is probably a good idea.

Was this ever about being interdicted though? I thought the OP said he was scooping salvage at the time and got bounced. That's happened to me when I'm at wreck sites.

Multiple ships appear from nowhere? Don't keep scooping salvage as the scoop inhibits speed and control.

Cargo scoop retracted; chaff, boost, run.......... don't try and complete the salvage; RUN.

[Edit]Just to be clear my Type 6 Irene that I was flying last night is set up for salvage/haulage. It has countermeasures but no offensive weapons at all.

So yeah; if you don't want to risk ambush don't salvage I suppose. Or learn to evade and egress.[/Edit]

The topic is: OP was ganked by four NPCs on the salvage mission (which is how these missions always go). As he tried to run away, he was interdicted by another NPC (As it can happen) and then rage-quit.
*shruggs*

So we can basically remain on topic with talks about missions, interdiction RNG, enemy rankings, our skill vs. our rank, etc...

(Your last sentence is probably the most important message in the whole thread. :) )

Re-read the post you are talking about please; I've edited some more information ("opinion") into it. Best wishes.

The message of your post didn't change, though. Don't do salvage missions, and if you do, be prepared to run. :)

It's true I'm not sure if you're complaining or advising. But your post comes out as helpful. That's what matters. :p

Seriously guys - IMHO I'm sure this thread is a wind up.

OP in other threads flips between rapture on progress (recent CG, able to afford 'Conda - don't know what happened to it), and rage over being killed.

I just don't get it. The game progresses. As you "git gud" so do your enemies. Would OP prefer that NPCs remain the same as he progresses, thereby turning the "game" into fish in a barrel shooting?

There is no way on Earth (or indeed in the Galaxy) that OP is not fully aware of all countermeasures for interdiction evasion and escape procedures. Mainly because OP is vocal on all the threads where it is discussed.

What is this....therapy?

Apologies AdamDZ if I am misjudging you......but I do find your posting subjects a bit schizophrenic tbh...

That's an issue for your perception but I ain't complaining.

There are no complaints from me. I bought the game and I decide to play it. If I change my mind I will not play it.

I am getting a bit over the irrational and unreasonable amount of complaining that goes on; all that indicates is a misplaced sense of entitlement. (I am not talking about the OP or this thread. Just take a look at these forums generally).

People need to read a description of the game and should, at some stage in their lives, sit down and read the Terms and Conditions of the EULA. That is basically where entitlement begins and ends.

I agree. It's one of the reasons why I am only active in Newcomers section and ship fanclubs. .D
