IGN's 25 PC Games to Play in 2014 - No ED?

Thearen't wrong. It's fan bais opinion.

What the problem

- its a old re incarnated fransshise, wich means most of those gen of gamers aren't gamers any more. Althosome came back pure for this game.
- currentgen gamers don't knowthis franchise. People the common gamers seethis as jet again thenr 12th crowd funded game in the spAce genre. The fame is unkown to current generation of gamers. Mention it has not much meaning.
- this game has a much more avarege low profile.

SC has all thosepoint at better level.

Using Cody's word, call it an 'FPO'.

When people ask 'what's an FPO?', say 'Flexi-Player Online'.

And when they ask 'What's Flexi-Player Online?', explain about the different game modes.

It could be the start of a new gaming genre :D

Sold!

When it comes out its pedigree will make it a big story in the game and non-game press. Star Citizen subscribers will know all about it and anyone on any space game forum will know.

No matter what the publicity it is not going to appeal to people who expect to pick up a game-pad and start playing without reading a manual. In fact that would lead to bad publicity.

It's going to appeal to people who maybe haven't kept up with gaming in the intervening decades and it will appeal to people who are happy to master a complex game.

There are tons of us older gamers who have great memories of Elite. Along with other space sim fans this will be the bedrock fan-base on which to build.

I've very excited by the whole thing. It's going to be a great success. I'm sure when it's ready for release here will be plenty of good publicity.

They are if they think that SC is going to be out in 2014.

+1 Agreed, Chris Roberts & CIG are taking the same sort of approach as Mr Braben and FD, i.e. not rushing to release anything before it's ready. Though I am not so keen on the SC approach to selling in-game content at this point (but that is only my opinion)

Star Citizen is a different beast to E : D, but I am looking forward to it, and have pledged on that game as well. SC is a very ambitious project, I do really hope they can do it to the level of vision that CR has laid out, I'm not at the point where I think it won't happen, but at the same time, not 100% convinced it will. Still, I've put in $60. I may up my investment further upon getting my hands on the SC dogfighting module.

As far as E : D goes, I have absolutely every confidence in DB and FD being able to deliver the game as envisioned by DB. FD already have £200 off me. I may spend more on extras as and when they become available in the store.

As for IGN's list - I really do not care, I know this game is going to be awesome, and would rather not have to deal with a rush of 'kiddies' coming to the game early on, and all the issues that kind of gamer can sometimes bring with them (basically I don't want to have to experience the kind of online behaviour you get in the likes CoD). I understand the game mechanics will allow 'filtering', but idiots do take up bandwidth....

Does anyone know if the SC release date gets pushed back as they raise more money? After all they presumable can add in more features now they have raised $87m* compared to their original $2m target.

no not really. do you know what the average age for gamers is now?

I wouldn't lose hope. IGN (owned by Murdoch) has a pretty Advertorial bent. See EA games: the churn of Need for Speed (will the real Citerion please stand up), FIFA (passing into space please!), and SimCity debacles. That aside the kids there sometimes get away with their own stuff ... they love their indie games as well: some perfect score for some well deserved stuff (FEZ). So when Elite hits for real I'm sure it'll pop up on their radar.

And for people that are saying FD need better PR ... I think this is tosh. You think a multi-million pound developer don't employ good PR? They're just doing it their way.

Until there's a finished game it's all just chat. Never talk about your painting / music creation / writing or anything creative till you have something to show your mates. It's the golden rule.

THere's no real release date for SC yet... (other than end 2014/start 2015. But the answer currently is NO. They can actually expand their team with all the extra $$$. The mentioned stretch goals are just to indicate that there's some exstra development going to be done. Don't think that one planetary system costs 1M$. All that stuff is just indicative.

The average age of the PC gamer is 37 and rising every year. We may have taken breaks from gaming at various points in our lives due to real life commitments, but we never stopped being gamers.

Love it! FPO - new genre of grouping and online play.

Afterall I envision from the explanations so far the All Online experience will feel like a multiplayer game(32) but be influenced by the MMO persistant universe :D

On the escapist forums I once read some spat between a guy who was almost 50 and some kid who just flat out refused to believe that this other guy was a gamer because of his age. But the kid simply would not accept that someone of that age would have any interest in gaming and was just scream “FAKE FAKE” at him every post.

The bloke then pointed out he had been a gamer since pong, that he was the same age as Ken Levin who had just won his golden joystick award and who the hell did this kid think was running these studios that are turning out all those games he plays!

A lot of these console kids seem to genuinely believe that ‘gamers’ as a group of people just sprung into existence for the first time the day that Call of Duty Modern Warfare was released.

There's so many of these lists about these days the chances of being on every one are slim. Also every generation thinks they invented everything and do everything better than the last generation, it's just how life is.

If you didn't have to create .bat files or fiddle with config files for your games, you weren't there, Man! You don't know!

Ah yes, the joys of creating autoexec.bat and config.sys files for a floppy drive boot disk, just to be able to run Frontier.......

And having to set dip-switches on your sound card, IRQ 7, address #220 etc...
