I'll be honest here, this isn't what I wanted.

this ^^^^^ 100%

Someone in my voice chat channel pointed out last night that very few people even realize the possibilities in ED, and I missed as well.

We can change the controlling faction of entire systems.

If people did pick a side, and start playing FOR that side, the entire landscape could change. Red systems could turn blue, or green, or gray...and we as players have complete control of this.

We could wipe out the Empire completely, or the Alliance, or the Federation, through our own actions.

Eventually people will begin to realize that this is what it's all about, and start doing it. Some already have, and it is changing the galaxy already.

Rambling engaged...

I like the game that Frontier made. I'm happy it isn't more like EVE but I also despise most humans so that makes me the odd one out.

IMO, Elite Dangerous provides all the things I like in a space game and NONE of the meatbag politics, metagaming, showboasting and male fifth appendage waving

I think I might be a minority in that regard, oh well.

You should never approach a game as some version of another. Why would you want to play a watered down derivative? Elite Dangerous stays true to its original principles (mostly :p ) and I like it that way.

Perhaps, and wisely, EVE will have a mode similar to Elite...but whatever they implement will likely be derivative of what Frontier has made...soo,meh.

More than anything though, and I think this has been expressed in this thread..the E: D universe needs a bit more life in populated space. Core systems still seem desolate around stations and planets look uninhabited and untouched by human industry. Random skirmishes should be a bit bigger...maybe if the station didn't explode ppl on their way in but instead the security forces engage in a dogfight that the NPC/player tries to escape (entering the station would see the guns open up though :D ). Shuttle traffic and station to planet deliveries on non-jump capable barges would be a nice sight...maybe even get in on some of that action with the expansion to planet landings....idk, just more stuff...more lipstick (i know, superficial, but it needs a dash of something that is missing, IMO).

Rambling complete...

I agree with this and have pointed out to people that say the game is boring to go and try do this, change the controlling faction / company /whatever you call it of a system and see what pans out. Try getting one to expand in to a neighboring system and take it over.

We know it can be done, it already is.

The aim is to entertain, if it's amazing then it is entertaining and therefore not pointless.

Some things are amazing only the first time you see them, until you realize they're not really as amazing as they looked on first glance.

That's kind of the difference between a movie and a game. A movie's point is to entertain you the first time. For a movie, it's enough to amaze the audience the first time they see it. Some people may want to watch the movie again and again and still enjoy it a lot, but most people would get bored quickly, knowing it's only a repetition of what they've already seen. A game, at least an online game like Elite: Dangerous strives to be, is supposed to keep entertaining us. It doesn't take long until you've more or less seen "everything" in this game, and the rest of it becomes "more of the same". Once you've checked out a few USS, you realize they're not nearly as special or diverse as they may have seemed at first. You'll also realize that USS don't appear in any reasonable fashion. You come across the same kind and amount of USS when you go at full speed as you do when you drift around at minimum speed, they'll just show up right in front of you, no rhyme or reason. Missions get old and repetitive quickly as well - especially the bounty hunting/assassination missions in their current implementation.

I was definitely amazed at first, but after playing for a while, it becomes quite apparent that the game, at least at this point in time, has some quite considerable flaws.

I agree with this and have pointed out to people that say the game is boring to go and try do this, change the controlling faction / company /whatever you call it of a system and see what pans out.

In doing this, you are only sending them to more boredom. Attempting to change faction influence by yourself is a terribly slow and repetitive grind, people who are already bored will only be reinforced in their boredom by trying this. An individual's efforts are quite negligible, unless you have a group of people helping you by doing the same grind for the same faction, you won't be seeing results anytime soon.

And it is Elite 4. It feels like Elite, as it should, and doesn't feel like EvE, as it should. I went through all the professions and bounty hunting it just the most rewarding gaming-wise and credit-wise for me. I do itwith a couple of mates and it's great. The game will be expanded upon of course, but in the mean time I'm pretty much having a blast, despite all the silly bugs.

I agree this is just the start This plays like the old elite the plans are to have all the features from frontier and fist encounters in it to .

This game is so big it needs a litle time to implement everything .

too bad i have to go back to my ship for 6 weeks .

but i will be amazed when i come back.

How can a game have elements. It's a game, everything is pointless. The aim is to entertain, if it's amazing then it is entertaining and therefore not pointless.

Interacting with code in a computer is pointless to me. I only care about affecting other human players and the persistent world (or galaxy) they occupy. Everything else has no meaning, but that does.

You were probably right in your opening post, possibly not the game you were looking for. Kudos to you for admiting that and not slagging off the game though +rep

Never played EVE so I don't know how you affect the galaxy there, but the Crimson State group are (or is it were now - little out of date on the news there) having a big try in Lugh. So you can affect it, also if you head for bigger conflict zones then I am sure you would find humans to fight, especially those listed on GALNET..

I've helped my dad build a home before. I've cut down trees before for firewood. I've affected the world directly by my actions because real life is the ultimate sandbox (though being permadeath dramatically reduces my interest in it).

My advice, how little it is worth.. don't let RL permadeath consequences stop you from doing what you enjoy (as long as it is legal). Almost every "long" outing I go on I almost manage to get myself killed, but I always persevere. How can you truly live if you do not face death?

Oh don't worry, I'm not a hermit, I just think life is too hardcore to be the primary game. It's very poorly designed and unfair even though the depth and visuals are incredible.

Eve Online when it first came out had no missions to run, players could not own any regions in space nor could they build POS's. The biggest ship was the battleship and all there was to do was mine and shoot roid rats to make isk. Travel through null sec was faced with danger as players would place python mines at gates for people to jump into.

You had to manually bookmark gates and stations or you would come out of warp at 20km away. There wasn't even any alliances for player corporations to join.

Eve has been out now for more than 10 years and you expect a game that has been out just a single month to have all of its features implemented ?

I know what I am talking about as I was in beta for Eve Online and played it since release.

To compare Elite with Eve is like trying to compare chalk to cheese. Yes they are both set in space and this is where the similarities end.

Point is, that in rush to gain xmas money, they deployed thing, that is boring for many people, and game reputation is going down. In next few months many people will forget about this game, or will not trust it anymore.

Sadly everything said here is true. Game has so much potential but its been rushed out of the window unfinished with a quarter of the features promised. I didnt follow the development much but when i paid 60$ for this game i expected to get a finished product. That being said, im playing it for now waiting for a better patch with some actual gameplay they promised. I will still pledge for Star Citizen since there is clearly much more time, interest and passion invested in this game. While waiting for SC ill keep making millions per day trading with my type 7 since i couldnt find any giant space battles as advertised. Elite: Dangerous....Where money is the core gameplay :)

ED launch was good better than other AAA rated games I bought, I play , it works , happy,,..... BF3 BF4 I bought it sometimes works not happy

I would like to see that screen below the RADAR used as a list of targets, CMR log Flight logs If I see something mark in it your LOG a quick look down & you can see where you are
