I'm Back!!!

Is it rude of me to say that I didn't realise you had gone? :) I've seen you on the forums so assumed you were still playing. Where did you go exactly? FS2020?

This thread really isn't about me, but rather the power of narrative and community events. The return of Galnet and community goals tied into that narrative have brought me back into the game like I was in the early days, where I'm actually excited to play the game despite the fact that it's the same "mechanics" it has been all along (with a few new surprises, like megaships in a combat zone). This is even more impressive considering the timing, because I was fully invested in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator, hook line and sinker. Heck, I was almost begrudged when Galnet returned, as it was "distracting" me from my flight sim adventures, but the more I got involved in the CGs, the more I was sucked back into the ED world.

So the point of this thread is just to let Frontier know, "It worked!" Bringing back Galnet and CGs brought me back, and hopefully it brought other players back as well. I even bought some new paint that I would have otherwise not spent my Arx on, with more paint purchases on the way (Midnight Black, I'm looking at you). I also wanted a positive thread about CGs and Galnet, seeing so many people are complaining about piddly little things regarding the specific minutia of the last two CGs. I thoroughly enjoyed the rebooted CGs, warts and all, and I hope Frontier keeps them coming. Good job!
Take care with your heart when Odyssey comes. :p

Not at all! I had taken a break this past spring, then I became interested in getting a fleet carrier which brought me back in for about a month or two, then I kinda grew bored again and just "faded away" from playing the game (though I do have a separate thread detailing this, which triggered all the "I hate diary posts" members). The game just felt "dead" without Galnet or CGs, so I switched my interest to other games like Space Engineers and eventually MSFS. When it comes to exploration and flying for flying sake, MSFS still wins my heart over ED, but I've always been intrigued by Elite's "universe", and now that it feels alive again, I find myself drawn back in. Now I'm not "flying for flying sake", but rather I'm investing in the current narrative and some unique new approaches to gameplay that CGs open up for me personally.

As for the forum, that's an entirely different game, LOL.

even though i only participate in CGs rarely, the option of doing so is nice, hopefully they're here to stay even if they are generic and the mechanics are the same its all fine!

dont change it!

I dislike it when they make generic CG's.

CG's are only really "good" for me, if they add something unique to it. Preferably a scenario in the game (like adding the megaships to the combat zones)

Special tangible rewards are good too- though those should be a pre-requisite for all CG's
