Im done.

Nope it was to have fun exploring and fighting stuff. Nope you def can't do that in a sidewinder. It took me way to many transport runs to get a ship big enough to do anything. You cant take a sidewinder, and go do combat, or exploration. You can't even jump very far in a sidewinder.

Lol live life like this game, get out of here. Insurance doesn't work like that at all, not even close. No one gives some one a 100 million dollar anything for 10 percent. It should be you buy the insurance before hand, and if you lose it you get it back, not this stupid way. I didn't even realise how that worked till it was to late, because there was 0 chance of dying in what i did.

You def didn't care, you just wanted to make fun of me so stop your nonsense.

You are right if i knew if i died I would have to start from starch i wouldn't of did it. But there is no way I am grinding another 200 hours to get it back.

Actually, someone has gone all the way to Colonia in a sidewinder, and without a fuel scoop.

You can go exploring in any ship you damn well please.

Sucks you lost your ship, but it was ultimately your fault that you went bankrupt and people can either deal with having to pay their "stupid-tax" or they can't.

Such is life.

It's no big deal OP. Most newcomers may have heard of the "don't fly without rebuy" rule, but many don't actually follow or learn it until the first time it hurts big. For me it was losing my first clipper. You just take that chance and think "ill be ok", then an accident happens. For me it was bumping into a skimmer on landing where then I was instantly wanted and the base immediately blew my clipper up with not enough for a rebuy and I lost 61 million and back into a cobra mkiii. I took a break for a day, but then came back and it was even easier to make that amount back and move on from there. If you want a quick boost, do the "road to riches" if you haven't already. That's probably more than enough to get you where you were or more as you're still learning. Good luck.

I make tons of mistakes all the time in Elite, which are of no consequence. Elite is pretty easy/forgiving if you follow these four steps:

First, get massive amounts of credits (this is easy if you take a little time and study the galaxy map or watch a little targeted youtube...).

Second, use said credits to buy a bunch of cool ships.

Third, replace all credits you just spent so you again have massive amounts of credits.

Fourth, do whatever you want in Elite without worry because you have massive amounts of credits.

Everything in ED revolves around credits. Once you understand that, you will be able to do anything in short order.

- Good. Get out there and do that. Things didn't end because you died without a rebuy. "Can't do that in a 'winder?" Sure you can. Tell that to the guy who made triple Elite in his.

Insurance doesn't work like that at all, not even close.
- You're right. Pay 5% and get everything back, but only if you need it? Sign me up!

I didn't even realise how that worked till it was to late ...
- You gotta read, amigo. Life is going to be hard otherwise.

... because there was 0 chance of dying in what i did.

o_O

- Math. You're going to need math skills too.

I was in a serious grindfest a few years ago. Worked my way up to a T9. Could barely outfit it, barely fill its hold. I flew a couple trading missions without a rebuy, because I thought I was damn good at trading and avoiding pirates. On my last run before finally having 1 rebuy in the bank, I lost an interdiction, and got wiped out in the fight (TBH, it wasn't much of a fight). I lost everything. Millions upon millions, back when missions paid 1/10 what they do today. (Well, not everything. I still had a couple ships in storage, including my AspX) I could have combat logged and survived. I could have straight up been smarter and not been in that position at all. Instead, I ended up quitting in the saltiest of rages.

Several months later, I picked it up again. I earned my way back up to bigger ships. I got much better at what I was doing. I tried different things. I listened to a lot of good people (and much better players than I) here in the forums.

It's a great game. Glaring problems? Yup. Missed promises from the devs? Yup, that too. Frustratingly vast swaths of untapped potential? Ab-so-lutely. But don't rage yourself into turning away from this thing. Put it down for a little while if you have to cool off. I get that. But I'll tell you that the best play I have had has been what has happened AFTER my great salty ragefest, not before.

Because if he's grinding through life like he was gringding through the game, he's going to be unhappy.

People are so focused on money, that they miss the whole game around them. Just like in real life. If you just work and sleep, never looking around, you know, smelling the roses by the road, climbing the hill you've seen in a distance just to find out how far you can see from it, you won't have any life.

Money don't matter. The experience does.

So, this isn't "Elite:Life Coach". He's quitting a video game. You know nothing about him but you rip his life apart because you saw a painting? :)

I'm not sure how you can get to a Conda without understanding the basics of the rebuy system.

I completely understand your anger (I dread it happening to me while in my Cutter), but honestly you have no one else to blame but yourself for failing to understand a very basic game mechanic.

I own several ships so that if I did lose my Cutter I wouldn't be back to square one. I would still feel like throwing myself out of the nearest window, though.

Yep i know its my fault, I didn't think they would actually make it so if I died without enough insurance money I would have to start over again, THAT. It already took me 200 hours to get there lol. Have fun though everyone else :) This game is def just a grind fest with way too much to lose if you make one mistake. Like hitting the wrong button, and dying. Then having 200 hours wasted.

Yes I know you dont care.

Create a ticket. they will probably give you your stuff back. and say be carful.

What exactly did you think insurance was for?? In your right panel its listed as "Rebuy Cost" there arent many ways to misinterpret the word "Rebuy" not sure how you figured without a "Rebuy" you could "Rebuy" your ship. Its kinda clear without alot of room for confusion. Hopefully you find a game without so many confusing words like "Rebuy" for rebuying something.

Hey, stop it. I was responding to his notion that "he would have to grind another 200 hours before he could play the game again" which I find ridiculous.

For what it is worth commander.... the video is timestamped to start at 1hr30min give or take and lasts 10 minutes unless you want to fast forward too the last 3 minutes after I low-wake out of the Nav Beacon and try to high tail it to the nearest station.

Mind you this was back in December of 2015 when the state of things were different, however the lesson was still the same.

At that time in the game I had very limited game knowledge and had worked in my opinion "very *&^%$ hard" to get into a 6 mill credit ship the 'Asp X'

For everyone's enjoyment.... the death of a new'ish' commander

First world problem. Insurance rebuys are far cheaper than loosing your entire ship, as you recently learnt. What is awkward is that you haven't learnt this simple fact in two hundred hours of gameplay. Ether you didn't take any effort to learn the basic game mechanics or you knew this fact, and you are simply flame bait posting for attention.

I lost a Cutter (44 million cr rebuy) a few days ago because I forgot to dump my cargo before leaving my ship unattended in a HAZ RES. 3 years in.

Get over it [big grin]

get 5 mil. get a dolphin, go exploring,,.
or get 20 mil, get a dbx and enoiy the ship with the like 2nd best jump range.

with 200 hr you'll have rank and connections, so you'll have access to better stuff.
just do the guardian missions, you can do it in a hauler and you can use that one to explore

and of you can explore in a sidewinder. you dont want to, for understandable reasons. you still can.

OP would last about five minutes in EVE Online, then realise it's even less forgiving than Elite.

Elite is less forgiving than EVE Online, because you are not protected by an invincible galactic wide police force, and you can run out of fuel. there is no autopilot, fancy computer to fly your ship for you, no spreadsheets, no "safespace" like high-sec, no station trading. no "leveling up skills" to "get better", you actually have to use your brain to be good at this game.

Not to mention the UI and camera system is garbage, and plays like a MUD with a 3D screensaver in the background. nothing but windows, zoomed out x300, right clicking.

Look right: If the little number at the bottom is larger than what should be the 'larger' number at the top. Don't launch. Sell a module, find a cheaper ship. JUST DON'T LAUNCH!

This IS rocket science, but one of the simplest parts of the game to get wrong.

I've seen it said before, but never quite so succinct. Virtual rep to you, Arry.

OP is right about one thing, I really do not care that a gamer with low capability in measuring risk/reward is quitting rather than learning from their mistakes. The whole of ED gameplay is measuring risk/reward, so probably for the best.
