im having some trouble please can i have some help

The recommendation for Horizons on the website is:

Graphics: Nvidia GTX 770 / AMD Radeon R9 280X or better

... and the minumum requirement is: Graphics: Nvidia GTX 470 / ATI 7240HD (DirectX 11 functionality required)

How up-to date that is is a mute point.

My secondary PC has a GTX 970 and that runs Horizons at 1080 on ultra no issues - I don't see them for sale now though (I would never buy a used graphics card).

You'd be very lucky to find a new 9xx series GPU any more - even most of the 10xx GPUs have been discontinued for quite some time now. Either buy used, or you'll need to get a 16xx or 20xx GPU (from NVIDIA, I have no idea about AMD).

If you can I would recommend an RTX Nvidia card, I have an RTX 2070, but not knowing where you are I can't give recommendations because I don't know what prices are like.

Direct X 8.1 support only, so the answer I am afraid is no, you need a card with Direct X 11 support.

No it isn't. At minimum it is the r7 240 which is still supported by AMD and in fact has graphics drivers that were last updated in February.

The R7 240 supports DX11 just fine, updating the graphics drivers to the latest ones (not the ones from 2014) will most likely get the game to run.

That said, performance will be terrible so you should probably upgrade anyways.

Yeah - I referred to it as it was what he was asking about in the immediately preceding post. I assume it is the lack of memory on the card that is the issue since it says it is DX12 capable?

I think it's more that the graphics drivers they are currently rocking predate horizons.

By about a year.

I would hazard a guess that they are the basic ones supplied with Windows and auto updates have been switched off.

You are in fact correct, I was getting confused with Direct 3D, two different things altogether.

However I have seen threads from 2015 that say the R7 240 was a very poor performer for games;

https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/does-the-gigabyte-radeon-r7-240-support-directx-12.2463527/

Since that was 5 years ago I can't imagine it doing very much at all with ED Horizons

It's also reported as an entry level graphics card in 2013 here;

So I would really recommend the OP upgradeing the card to play Horizons anyway, even if he can get it running it's going to be what I can only call dissapointing. An entry level card from 2013 is just not going to cut the mustard with today's graphics in a game like ED.
