Im sooooo bored thread

So ive been playing since prem BETA. I had a right old laugh back then. Waited for Oculus Rift to come, was amazed at the build and fully behind the blaze your own trail thing. Didnt really see the need for a story and was happy in the player contained giant pill universe that was available at the time. Rift finally came and the game just blew me away (then i sold Rift for a 300quid profit and that blew me away more).....blah blah blah ...........

GAMMA! POW!

A huge galaxy was now available for me to explore and all of a sudden i wasn't in Eranin scooting around in my comfort zone with my hand drawn galaxy map leading to to Prime, Aulin etc anymore and neither was anyone else because they were all to busy buggering off everywhere else.....I thought this couldnt be helped and was only natural with a mock up galaxy the size of the milkyway.......ANYWAY!.... Everyone buggered off in their own direction so i headed to Sol, thought hey look earth! cool! oooooooooo Jupiter and fighting in its rings! completely awesome! Did some space trucking with my own trucking soundtrack and earned some cash, became a bounty hunter and enjoyed that for a time......got a bit bored so started robbing people like a dirty space pirate and finally moved out to do exploration (i tried mining once and preferred smashing my own genitals with a metal mallet)........so in my exploration i went down the road to Barnard's Loop, got lost in the basement of the Milky way and in that part of town and found a few black holes "oohhh a black hole! awesome!!!!" etc......came home and sold all my data and earned some cash....happy days AND then it hit me.....

I was bored! I went out for another explore, got so far and was just soooooo bored. I came back home to the founders system and bought a little bounty hunting beast and still got bored. I thought to myself....you know what! i will trade a bit more and just get myself to Elite ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD im bored.
Ive always defended the whole no story aspect of the game on this forum and the player influenced galaxy but i went from playing this game religiously and recommending it to everyone i came across to actually being slightly naffed off, putting 1 hour a week in and realizing that there is actually zero sign of life in the ELITE universe (apart from the trees at those glossy stations in sol which are very pretty and green). Not one human, one picture of a person or even a woman with a set of triple space hooters like in total recall to distract me. A story that isnt galaxy wide and evolves from the mission system would be great but i dont think it will ever happen in this game (barring the "ohhhh you accepted a mission but we have a counter offer zzz missions).... NOTHING! Thargoids i think will be added to the game but we will never actually see them and only their ships. Thargoids will just be another mechanical ship you cant buy that has no story behind it and just troll you like an NPC whilst you explore.

Ok.........i will take a breath! ..Am i really the only one who wants some form of story (and not the "Quest to save the galaxy by the chosen pilot with flying skills above all others blah blah" cliche kind) but just something more than "hey you take product X to place A" or "kill target X and location Y". Geez just add something more interesting! I have high hopes for this game in the future but at the moment its still pretty empty

(ps love the game apart from the boredom it causes)

1st off... Time for a breather mate. Most games when you hammer hard for so long you hit a time out phase.

I completed (max game score so a lot of grinding) Fallout 3 ultimate edition and then went straight onto skyrim... and ultimately it was more of the same. I left it feeling rather deflated and finally went back to it again a week ago and have totally fallen for it again.

Leave Elite alone for a few months.... maybe pick up witcher 3 or GTA V if either of those tickle your fancy and then come back after completing one of them.

Generally I love hand crafted missions and for me elite is somewhat of an oddity in that I love it even without those things.... That being said, I too truly think the game would benifit from much more content, more life and a way better mission generator. Some of this I hope will come in 1.3, some will come in the future, and, as with every elite game which came before, I am sure some will be for ever left to our imaginings.

(space dredges and generation ships, and huge ship graveyards anyone ? I spent hrs looking for those back in the day!!!)

maybe you should do something else, go outside if the sun is shining

Im not sure how going outside is going to address this issue. Its a bit like a bug in the game. Oh my just blew up in station? "well go outside if the sun is shining?" Oh yeah that helped and now the bug has gone! :D .....

Find a HoloShip.

Look, I'm not much good at big speeches, and I know I haven't always been an easy guy to get on with. And I know that, given the choice, I probably wouldn't have chosen you as friends. But, I just want to say... that over the years I have come to regard you as... people... I met.

Everyone wants more. Its coming. 1.3 is just over the horizon. Go play Far Cry or GTA for a bit. Don't burn yourself out.

We're only in year one here. Its all to come.

I sympathise with your desire for more meat in your dinner here (I think the game could do with beefing up too), but why a story? I think the LAST thing this game needs is some sort of over-arching story to make the player feel a bit more special. One of the great things about this game is that you're just an ordinary schmo in a universe filled with other schmos.

If it's a story you want, write your own into the game and play that story out. Other than that, more factions (criminal factions which hold territory concurrent with the Feds and Empire), some areas of space which are truly full of anarchy and danger, a way to join factions properly as opposed to simply being allied or hostile with them, as well as thargoids showing up could help spice things up.

What you are saying is pretty much what i meant. I dont think we need a "game story" but mission progressive story-lines would make things far more interesting like with bounty hunting missions. Instead of being able to kill someone outright after finding them in a system why not make a multi part mission to hunt down a person. You get close calls with that target and they get away. you have to interdict other ships who know of the target and fire warning shots at them to get them to release data about its location. that sort of thing i think needs fleshing out to add to immersion

It won't fix the bug but it might put it into context. (Although it's not a bug, obviously.)

If you want a story I suggest you play X3 or Freelancer. Elite has never had a story that is the whole point and the main hook of the game for lots of us.

It's impossible not to burn out on a game unless you have an addictive personality/OCD and are laser focused/obsessed with something. You know, like people who bring pee-bottles to their WoW sessions.

If you're burning out, consider yourself mentally healthy and change things up a bit :D

<whispers> Other games are available ;)

Try playing something different for a while and coming back to Elite when you feel refreshed.

I went on holiday for 3 weeks and now I love playing again. You can have too much of something and sicken yourself.

I've enjoyed the CG missions on the bulletin board. I've only been here a couple weeks, but they seem to add some atmosphere. The rumors of alien tech passing through the Lave area seemed pretty interesting as well...

I will agree with you that I'd like to see some more people roaming the stations though. Hopefully passengers will bring that. Be flying a long route while sipping tea and suddenly an NPC on your ship yells in your ear, "Are we there yet?! I paid top-credit for this trip and I want to be there fast!" And time for a new monitor. Really though having muted voices of people talking while ferrying passengers around would be wonderful, I hope they do something like that. An Orca could be playing dancing music for them.

This is one of those threads where many people will nod knowingly in agreement but say nothing, for fear of the usual brigade coming in and telling you to just quit complaining or go do something else. I've itched to write a similar rant but it wouldn't be taken the right way, and I honestly don't believe it would achieve anything anyway, so I just keep schtum these days and do what I would advise you do - vote with your feet and just do something else. Put the game down and don't be afraid to admit it's not working out how you'd expected or hoped. The drop in active commander numbers has got to be a metric that Frontier are monitoring closely, but I seriously doubt any discussion on these forums really drives any decisions any more. The game will go the way Frontier want it, and only the biblical rant threads on here will ever have a chance of crafting it's direction. One more person saying "I'm bored" won't achieve anything, and I'm not having a go at you - I'm bored too - but too much needs doing too soon to get this game enjoyable at the level we are expecting.

Play something else, hop on to ED once a week, see if anything has changed that floats your boat. I'm looking forward to 1.3 to see if that ups the game (haha, see what I did there) any...

I've called the family round. We've all read this thread and are having a good old cry about the dramatic news of your boredom. My body aches, saturated in the tragic news of your tedium. Hopefully, we'll all get through this together.
