Im sooooo bored thread

Ok so just to update everyone but the last week is the first time i came back since way before wings and nothing really has changed. Im hoping that in 1 years time this game really has changed and if not i will cry in the corner for another 3 hours

Been said already, find something else for now and come back later when there is some new stuff. I have just found Grand Prix Legends (and its myriad of mods) and I am having a wail of a time hacking round old courses in frankly dangerous Lotus's etc. Climbing back into a Cobby or Vulture is a relief by comparison.

Wow that is a blast from the past. I loved that game. Bought my 1st ever wheel for that. Papyrus made some cracking sims back in the day

Saying that the game being boring is not a problem as long as you have the possibility to go outside and do something else is a very defeatist thing to say.

ive been grinding (no homo) at pong for the last 5 hours since you guys said i should play something else and im not bored at all! thanks :D

I feel your pain sir, I truly do. It's not that we hate the game, if anything it's the opposite but you can only poor glitter on a piece of fecal matter for so long until you realise...it's still fecal matter but now it's covered in glitter :(

I'm sure Elite will evolve into something beautiful. It will take time but may be eclipsed by other games if they don't hurry up about it :D I'm sat at my computer now thinking "Shall I fire up Elite or have a blast on BF4 (which I haven't done for a few months since Elite launched)"

Like has been already said, as much as it may pain us to do so, there's other games out there until Elite becomes less of an empty shell.

So ive been playing since prem BETA. I had a right old laugh back then. Waited for Oculus Rift to come, was amazed at the build and fully behind the blaze your own trail thing. Didnt really see the need for a story and was happy in the player contained giant pill universe that was available at the time. Rift finally came and the game just blew me away (then i sold Rift for a 300quid profit and that blew me away more).....blah blah blah ...........

GAMMA! POW!

A huge galaxy was now available for me to explore and all of a sudden i wasn't in Eranin scooting around in my comfort zone with my hand drawn galaxy map leading to to Prime, Aulin etc anymore and neither was anyone else because they were all to busy buggering off everywhere else.....I thought this couldnt be helped and was only natural with a mock up galaxy the size of the milkyway.......ANYWAY!.... Everyone buggered off in their own direction so i headed to Sol, thought hey look earth! cool! oooooooooo Jupiter and fighting in its rings! completely awesome! Did some space trucking with my own trucking soundtrack and earned some cash, became a bounty hunter and enjoyed that for a time......got a bit bored so started robbing people like a dirty space pirate and finally moved out to do exploration (i tried mining once and preferred smashing my own genitals with a metal mallet)........so in my exploration i went down the road to Barnard's Loop, got lost in the basement of the Milky way and in that part of town and found a few black holes "oohhh a black hole! awesome!!!!" etc......came home and sold all my data and earned some cash....happy days AND then it hit me.....

I was bored! I went out for another explore, got so far and was just soooooo bored. I came back home to the founders system and bought a little bounty hunting beast and still got bored. I thought to myself....you know what! i will trade a bit more and just get myself to Elite ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD im bored.
Ive always defended the whole no story aspect of the game on this forum and the player influenced galaxy but i went from playing this game religiously and recommending it to everyone i came across to actually being slightly naffed off, putting 1 hour a week in and realizing that there is actually zero sign of life in the ELITE universe (apart from the trees at those glossy stations in sol which are very pretty and green). Not one human, one picture of a person or even a woman with a set of triple space hooters like in total recall to distract me. A story that isnt galaxy wide and evolves from the mission system would be great but i dont think it will ever happen in this game (barring the "ohhhh you accepted a mission but we have a counter offer zzz missions).... NOTHING! Thargoids i think will be added to the game but we will never actually see them and only their ships. Thargoids will just be another mechanical ship you cant buy that has no story behind it and just troll you like an NPC whilst you explore.

Ok.........i will take a breath! ..Am i really the only one who wants some form of story (and not the "Quest to save the galaxy by the chosen pilot with flying skills above all others blah blah" cliche kind) but just something more than "hey you take product X to place A" or "kill target X and location Y". Geez just add something more interesting! I have high hopes for this game in the future but at the moment its still pretty empty

(ps love the game apart from the boredom it causes)

Plenty of people have already said similar. The game is visually pretty, once you get over that and once you get tired of doing the same arcade-like repetitive things over and over you realize the game will not last a very long time, if it stays this way.

I honestly understand how some people are bored, and they have valid reasons that I can sympathize with. However, just the act of flying around space, and doing whatever I want, is the game for me. I think I might be one of the lucky ones though, because since the simulation part is where i derive my enjoyment, everything they add to the game is just a bonus for players like me.

Question is, how many hours have you put into the game. Every game I've ever truly enjoyed gets old after a while and I've needed to take a break from it. It may even be quite a while before I come back to it. But if you put a few hundred hours into a game, you will need to do something else for a while, no matter what features it has or doesn't have.

I couldnt answer that exactly but going by how much i played say "world of tanks" which is for me 300hours+ id say from the point the game was launched its far in excess of that which would probably make people say "i only have myself to blame" for the burnout but this game hasnt really changed much since Beta and im a massive space buff who would spend all his available time in a virtual recreation of space with blackholes......wait maybe im not selling my point here xD

It is a bit artificial but if you are bored farming in RES (with is a lot easier than anarchy nav beacons) in your big ship, try doing it in a smaller ship.

An anarchy nav beacon in an eagle is fun.

I think the problem is us. Many people say they want an open world game where they can do what they want but then...just like in RL, you have no idea what you want to do, so, you blame the game, or life , or whatever. I fall into the same trap now and then, we all do.

Sometimes I like games with little action, other times I like games with lots of action. All depends on the mood I'm in. I know I'm new to Elite, but not to space sims. You want to talk about boring...I was a mining maniac in Eve for going on 7 years! Multiboxing Hulks, MAckinaw's...you name it. To me, it wasn't boring, but for the OP, as he said, he'd rather bash his you know whats off than sit around mining.

Anyway....like others have said. There's no one holding your fingers to the keyboard making you play when you find yourself bored. Take a break. If you come back and the game still bores you, it's not for you. I've got many games in my steam library I paid for that...unfortunately, turned out not to be for me after I played them a bit.

Batman-Arkham city anyone?

batman arkham knight you mean? and yes i agree its a case of walking away and seeing what future updates give us when we come back. I think i was lucky enough to buy prem beta with all the updates so one day i will return to this game and it will be everything i wanted and so much more but in the mean time i guess i will have to be batman..... wahhhh!

But what are you looking for it to do? Isn't it supposed to be a sandbox game, where you do what you want? There is no end game, and to me, that's kind of nice.

Played Elite for years on the speccy, played Frontier for years on the Amiga, been playing Oolite on and off for years on PC...

Last played ED for a couple of nights when 1.2 dropped, haven't touched it since.

Everything they've done right is excellent, everything they've gotten wrong is utterly terrible. This is reflected perfectly in forum feedback.

Well yes of course but if you want to be that pedantic there is no end to any game. You can grind away in any game thats allows you to carry on after completion of say.....a main quest. But If you actually read what i put in my OP you will see exactly what i specify which is just fleshing out of something that already exists.

Except that has never, ever, been what Elite is about.... And I am not sure it is what Star Citizen will be about either (especially given they have Sqd. 42 for that), if it ever comes out. Elite is about creating your own story with the tools at hand, and flying a space sim. Me, I fly with my 9 year old son, 10 yr old daughter and my wife so it is a blast for me (now if we can just find some way to start our own criminal empire).

When my son says to me, "I'm bored, I have nothing to do". I'll point out the fact that he is sitting in a room full of consoles, games, musical instruments, sports equipment and home entertainment system. That it is a nice day out and we are surrounded by beautiful country side, (and the dogs need walking). That there is a bus stop 100 yards down the road that could take him to the cinema or swimming baths or a dozen other fun places.

At this point he grunts, continues to sit there and remains bored.

The problem is that he has to do these things, but wants someone else to do it for him.

There are no stories in elite except those you make for yourself, but if you do that then the stories are infinite. If you want the game to do it for you, you bought the wrong game.
