Imp eagle mission runner

I love the Viper Mk IV for that role. It's got jump range. Just as versatile as the Cobra really but without the wide spread of the hardpoints. It can land anywhere. Something I have learned the Python can definitely NOT do. If I plan to do any on-foot work it's been a solid workhorse.
I have used an iCourier for a while for doing Odyssey, but I found I enjoy flying my Viper IV more. At least for ground work. The fact that I can just land near anywhere helps a lot when you are looking for fungoid or frutexa in rough mountains and I never have to worry I won't find a parking spot near the power building of a settlement. Also, damn, it's tough. Had a whole group of commando reinforcements wail on it for quite a while when I was clearing a settlement and they only got it down to 80% hull.

I guess that makes sense for an explorer/exobiologist who relies heavily on the SRV. After all there are those invisible rocks hiding out there just waiting to ruin your day...

Weird enough, i use that DBX as an Odyssey mission runner.
The pair of Advanced Missile Racks are very good for stubborn NPC. I had one dug under a building and he was immune to Grenades or to my G5 L6.
But not to my Dumbfires.

Those 1300 MJ of shields are great when i attempt an assault on a Military Settlement.
Those seem to have strong air and ground protection.
I even had one that had a CAP consisting of a Deadly Anaconda, Dangerous Python and a pair of Vipers circling the settlement. Plus the ground defenses that are really though.

The Scout has been on my radar for that.
I've always loved my DBS and have never understood why it's among the least popular ships in the community. It's practically perfect for Odyssey.

The Courier is also excellent, although I don't fly one because I don't like the aesthetics. It sacrifices range for insane shields (effective strengths all more than a gigajoule!) and 610m/s.

Build here.

Before I went Empire I looooooooooved my Scout. I loved how it reminded me of the Eurocopter Tiger from Goldeneye. The view from the cockpit. Its sheer speed. The heat resistance. But then I realized I didn't need to be Empire to get an iEagle and I tried it out and cheated on my DBS. Then I said "what the hell" and ground Empire ranks and cheated on my iEagle with the iCourier, my current love.

God, I'm such a ship hoe.

Edit: that build brings tears to my eyes for both its beauty and because of the long long road I have ahead of me if I want to achieve that level of engineering...

Same, when I first started Odyssey I bought an iEagle, thinking like OP and the others did, but then I got curious about the iCourier and now it's my one true love. Now that most of my on foot weapons are engineered or close to done I'm finally starting on engineering my ship, the first step being the engine. So far I've only gotten to G3 dirty, hoping to add drag once I get the mats, then I'll work on the last 2 levels. Even at G3 though the increase in speed is exciting.

Though I'm a bit disappointed that the results are random, I had no idea that was the case and I have no idea what the max possible result on a "roll" is :(

I went with Drive distributors for the experimental, they make a really big difference on something as light as the Icourier. While Drag Drives will get you a higher top speed, you basically have to sacrifice EVERYTHING to get there. Drive Distributors let you have more of a multirole ship (My Courier has weapons and all Utility slots filled, ableit with E boosters and lightweight PD) and still is going over 840M/S. Gonna Strip down the Power Distributor (D rated but not understized) and Shield Generator (Prismatic with ELP mod) to see if I can hit that 851M/S which is the max possible speed with Dirty Drive Enhanced Performance thrusters using Drive Distributors (Stripping anything else gives no more speed)

A specific thruster available up to class 3 I believe, for sale at engineer bases. They’re power hungry but, ahem, enhance the fun flight profiles of the little ships. I’m no expert though!
Grabbed it and DAMN dude the difference is amazing, I'm boosting in the 500s already and I'm only at G1 dirty! This is gonna be sweet.

That's 2 recommendations for distribution now, ok I'll go in that direction instead of drag. My speed is already better as I said in my above statement, so by the time I'm G5 it will be insane. Best to not be greedy with the drag effect, then ;)

Actually, the inverse is true - they make a really big difference on something as heavy as a properly-fitted Courier, especially with enhanced performance drives, for which the optimal mass is lower than standard drives.

Just watch your weight - enhanced performance drives are great, but the power and weight requirements make them a somewhat niche pursuit. All that lightweighting and skimping necessitate a glassy build that will not easily hold its own in a fight, especially if your shields go down. They're great for running away, but not much else, in my opinion.

A distinction without a difference, I appreciate you wasting your time though, lol.

That's fine actually as it's purpose is in line with the OP. Get in fast, get out fast. This is only my 2nd serious ship. Once I have around 200-300M I'll work on a pirate/attack ship (I'd love to stay with the Imperial theme and grab a clipper but common sense says Chieftan), and then it's all putting creds away for a cutter.

The Clipper has better cargo capacity due to its class 7 cargo rack. The restricted slots on the Chieftain will also prevent you stocking sufficient limpets for piracy - you'll need a hatch-breaker and a collector limpet controller, unless you're interested in PvP piracy, in which case you can take a "stand and deliver" approach.

NPCs will always run or fight to the death, so unless you're good at taking out drives and shooting cargo hatches open without destroying the target, you'll need hatchbreakers.

The distinction is important because if you can make it, you can clearly explain the value of drive distributors over drag drives to people you're giving advice to. In other words, you're wrong again.

I appreciate that insight, thanks!
